EPILOGUE

The toddler squealed in delight as Jack pushed him on the swing.

‘Not too hard,’ Lewis shouted over. ‘Or Little Scott’ll fall out.’

Gracie and Maya chatted animatedly over their Prosecco-and-pie picnic, leaving Lewis with one eye on the boys and the other on his newspaper. Noms and Ali were playing with Boris and Hetti over on the other side of the common.

The adoption process had been a lot easier than Gracie had ever imagined.

Maya was happy that her baby boy was now in the safest of hands and the fact she could see him whenever she wanted had made the decision a whole lot easier. She had even helped choose his name.

Lewis moved towards Gracie and gave her a kiss. ‘Are you happy, Mrs Blair?’

‘Never happier, Mr Blair.’

Maya refilled their glasses. ‘On that note, time for a toast. Here’s to mothers, in every beautiful form they take. Cheers!’

The three of them chinked glasses.

‘To mothers… in every beautiful form.’
