Chapter 10 #2

I nod slowly and collect my thoughts. I didn’t realize that’s why he was behaving in that way.

I just assumed it was him being young and a bit childish, but I can understand why he has these feelings.

Everyone at the office isn’t always the nicest to Chase.

They tend to be dismissive of him. And I know he told me about the bet before, but taking a second to think about it, that would feel incredibly awful to have several people openly bet against you and say they couldn’t believe the person you like would ever like you back.

“I’m sorry,” I say, “we’ll work on your jealousy, and a way we’ll work on it is I’ll make sure to be more reassuring.

I’ll make sure you feel not only important and special to me, but appreciated and like I’m completely in this relationship.

That no matter if someone is flirting with me or trying to pursue me, there will be no doubt in your mind that you’re the only person I want.

It’s not fair or kind that people in the office belittled your feelings for me and made you feel undeserving of a relationship with me.

And I’m incredibly sorry if before we started our relationship, I was dismissive of you or just mean. ”

He blinks his eyes several times, then his voice cracks as he says, “daddy, I’m going to cry.”

“Come on, darling, let’s go for a walk before heading back,” I say before quickly grabbing a bag from the counter and packing our barely eaten sandwiches in it.

Once we’re outside, I lead us around the corner to a small alleyway, so we have a little privacy, then I tug him into me.

He immediately wraps his arms around me and puts his face in my neck.

I rub my hands up and down his back, giving him a few minutes to settle down.

After a while, he takes a shaky breath, then faces me with a red face and bloodshot eyes.

I cup his cheeks, then swipe my thumbs, wiping away some of his tears.

“Are you okay?” I ask after giving him a kiss.

He nods, “I wish there was a place to lie down so I could cuddle your tummy until I feel better.”

Snorting, then I say seriously, “we can go home if you want.”

“But what about work?” He asks.

“We can take a personal day for the rest of the afternoon,” I answer. “Maybe that would be for the best, then we can talk some more.”

“About my jealousy?” He asks, clearly not wanting to have that talk.

“No, talk about what’s been going on at work and your feelings about it,” I correct.

“You don’t think I’m being a baby?” He asks, “you know, like I can’t take a joke.”

I shake my head, “I would be upset too in your position.”

He smiles, “I love you, daddy. Can we get treats on the way home? Like gummy worms and whatever you like, then can I give you a blow job? Because I think that’s the only thing that will really make me feel better and like you’re mine.

” I shake my head, then nudge him away from me before leaving the alleyway and heading to the office.

He rushes after me, then once he’s beside me, he grabs my hand. “Oh, can we also get slushies too?”

“Anything else you want,” I tease.

“Chips and chocolate,” he answers, then asks, “do you think everyone will know I cried?”

I look at him, and he definitely looks like he’s been crying. “Probably, but if you want, you can wait for me in the car while I pack up.”

He thinks until we’re outside the office, “I’ll wait in the car.”

I nod, passing him the keys, then make my way quickly up to my office, where I’m stopped by Mia, who follows me into my office. “You’re dating baby Chase?”

“Yes, and where did you hear that?” I ask as I start packing up my things. “Also, I’m taking the rest of the afternoon off, so you may as well.”

“It’s everywhere. Literally everyone is talking about it and how it could’ve possibly happened,” she answers.

I frown at her, then ask for reasons I don’t want to admit, “on what end?”

“People can’t believe Chase bagged you,” she answers. “He’s been madly in love with you from day one, but no one considered that you would ever go for him.”

“Why?” I ask, “Chase is handsome-”

She interrupts, “ya, handsome, but a dumb baby-”

Now I’m the one interrupting, “don’t talk about him like that.”

“Last week you asked me to distract him for an hour so you could just have a break to think,” she accuses.

“Yes,” I say, “and I’ll be making sure to be more kind to Chase moving forward as well.

” She shakes her head, but before she can say anything else, I stop her by speaking sternly.

“Mia, I don’t care about last week. I care about now.

I don’t want you calling him baby Chase anymore, and I want you to be nice to him in this office.

” I gesture for her to leave the room, then I follow her before locking my door. “Have a good night, Mia.”

“You too,” she says.

I try to make my way quickly out of the office, but I’m stopped by three colleagues asking me about Chase and my relationship.

It’s ridiculous. I get into the car to find him on the phone with his dad, crying, and once I have my seatbelt on, he puts his dad on speaker.

Pulling out of the parking lot, I drive us to the corner store near my place while I listen to Chase detail our lunch.

Once I’m parked, I tap his leg to get his attention, then mouth I’ll grab a few things, to which he nods.

After I’ve collected a large bag of treats and two slushies, I make my way back to my car, where Chase and his dad are still talking.

I shake my head, then drive us the rest of the way home.
