chapter 2

As soon as I said that, Chloe's face turned pale.

Brian wanted to say something more, but I had already walked away.

In my past life, I ended up being eaten by a shark. This time, I won't let history repeat itself.

I immediately contacted my secretary, Emily Porter, asking her to secretly investigate Chloe's recent activities and have the "Eternal Heart" in my possession sent to a professional institution for appraisal.

Sure enough, the necklace in my hand was fake.

I laughed at myself. Brian surely wouldn't let the real Eternal Heart sink to the bottom of the sea with me.

I shook my head and started sorting through the clues I had.

Last time, the clothes I took on vacation were prepared by Brian, so getting an identical set wouldn't be difficult.

But just with identical clothes and a necklace, could it really make people mistake me for Chloe?

Emily reported to me, "Ms. Scott, we've tracked Ms. Green's whereabouts. Three days ago, she was in a car accident. Here's the surveillance footage from that day."

In the footage, Chloe was wearing the exact same blue dress I had on when I was pushed into the water, and the Eternal Heart around her neck sparkled dazzlingly in the sunlight.

I closed my eyes. Just as I thought.

She killed someone in a car accident and still boarded the cruise for a vacation as if nothing had happened. This is blatant provocation.

I couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh and think, "Brian, how cruel you are. We loved each other for ten years, yet you let me take the fall and die for the woman you love."

I took a deep breath and instructed Emily, "Contact the victim's family from that car accident. I want to meet them."

Emily nodded in agreement and, after hesitating for a moment, took out a USB drive. "Ms. Scott, this contains footage from the dashcam of the vehicle before the accident. You should take a look."

After she left, I opened the USB drive, and its contents instantly left me stunned.

After the sound of rustling fabric, Chloe's coquettish voice rang out. "Brian, take it easy. I've been with you for so long, when can we finally be together openly?"

Brian's voice was husky as he eagerly kissed Chloe. "Just wait a little longer. I've almost acquired all the shares of Scott Group. Once I become the largest shareholder, I'll dump her and let you stand by my side openly."

Chloe let out a soft hum and said, "Easy for you to say. Even without Scott Group, Serena still has millions to her name. Are you really willing to abandon her and marry me?"

Brian said, "I even gave you the Eternal Heart, and you still don't trust me? Besides, Alice likes you the most. Who else but you could be her mother?"

"Alright, sweetheart, stop talking about such buzzkill things. Just relax."

After the intense shaking, the screen went black.

My heart was filled with disgust and anger.

One was a college student I had supported for years, and the other was my husband of many years. They were together behind my back.

I opened the home surveillance and was about to instruct Emily to copy a piece of evidence when I saw Chloe and Brian disheveled, hugging each other on the screen.

Chloe asked, "Brian, can you really bear to let Serena die for me? Once she boards the cruise, theres no turning back."

Brian kissed her. "You've been living in fear for so long. If her death can bring you safety, then shes at least of some use."

Thinking about how the mouth he kissed Chloe with had kissed me, I couldn't help but vomit until my vision went dark and my throat was filled with the taste of blood.

I took a breath to calm down, then quickly convened a board meeting.

I want to see how Brian plans to become the largest shareholder of Scott Group with me around!
