Chapter Twenty-One
ANDREA
I register myself lying in the backseat of a car. Strong arms are wrapped around me, holding me firmly against a warm chest. Lips are pressed to the top of my head—a familiar voice telling me that everything’s fine.
Heat blasts through the space, lulling me to the dark place.
“Julian,” I croak, my face twisting as I fail to reach for him. I want to cry, but my body feels too tired to produce tears.
“Easy, ma cerise. I won’t let anything happen to you.” I believe him. “How do you feel?”
I say the first word that comes to mind. “Safe.”
A violent shiver courses through his body. “Keep talking to me, Andrea. Stay with me, okay?”
