CHAPTER EIGHT
-
KAbrINA
Once I hop out of the shower, I try to think about who could be leaving these notes for me, but nobody is ringing a bell. Once I get to the office on Monday, I'll have to see if there are any cases that stand out to me. There could be someone in the past who could be haunting me now.
Stepping out of the shower, I still see all the marks from Alexander that coat my body. Luckily, I'm not going anywhere this weekend, so they should hopefully start to fade before I return to work on Monday. I make my way into the bedroom, slip on my nightgown, and fall into a slumber.
When I awake the next morning, I realize Alexander still isn’t here.
I know he’s cheating on me. There are times he will come home smelling like another woman's perfume.
You might ask, why are you still with him if he's cheating?
But again, it's a tricky situation to leave.
I just need to wait for the day he moves on completely, or he dies, to finally be free.
I’ve thought about poisoning him or doing something else to take his life, but I know I’d be the first suspect. He acts like he knows people on high levels, so I have to play things cool to not get myself harmed in the process. Until then, I’ll just keep on doing what he wants.
I know with it being the weekend, I shouldn’t be doing any work, but I can't help myself.
I start to look through old case files on my computer for someone who hated me when I locked them away, but I can't find one with the first name starting with an A.
I have had so many cases since I started in this career, but everything is kept in alphabetical order on my password-protected work website so that I can sort through them easily.
A couple of hours go by, and I feel defeated.
There's just nobody that I can find who would want to stalk me.
Maybe they will make their presence known at some point in time, but I don't know if they actually will.
When I decide to close my laptop and turn the TV on, I hear the front door begin to open, and there I see Alexander.
“Look who's awake. I wish I would have killed your useless ass last night,” he says as he makes his way to the fridge for a beer.
All this man ever does is drink. That must be what's causing his rage from time to time. Something’s gotta change.
“Well, hello to you, too.”
Instead of getting another response from him, he makes his way upstairs with a beer in hand. Whatever, I don't want to talk to him anyway.
I find one of those stupid but funny reality shows and click play, so I can focus on something other than what’s going to happen when Alexander comes back down the stairs.
A couple of hours go by, and he's descending the stairs all dressed up like he's about to leave.
“What are your plans for the rest of the day?” I question.
“None of your business,” he responds before walking out of the house.
Well, alright then. More alone time for me. I decide I'm feeling some ice cream, so I throw on some clothes to try to cover the marks on my body before heading to one of the local grocery stores.
When I arrive, I have this feeling that there are eyes on me.
I wouldn't be surprised, though, because I am in long sleeves when it's 90-degree weather, but it feels like something more than just an average person looking.
I run into the store, grab the ice cream, and make my way back to the car when I see someone quickly running away from it.
I feel like I just saw a ghost from one of my cases from years ago.
A man who was charged with second-degree murder and sentenced to eight years.
I look at the year on my phone and realize it's been eight years already.
There's no way it's him, though. How would he know where I work and where I live?
Has he been watching me since he got out? There's no way.
I slowly approach my car and see there’s none other than a note with a sunflower attached to it.
I met that asshole of a man last night. Maybe we should meet up one day soon.

Part of me wants to call the cops because I can officially say I have a stalker, but what's the use?
The police barely take it seriously around here, so it doesn't make any sense to call them.
I just need to take matters into my own hands and protect myself to ensure I don't get hurt.
From what I can tell, he seems friendly by his notes, but if it's who I'm thinking it is… he has done heinous things in the past.
