CHAPTER NINE

AMARI

One Week Later

A week has gone by, and so much has happened.

I was able to meet up with my mom for lunch, and she caught me up on how worried she was when I was locked away.

I'm thankful for her because while I was away, she kept my car insured, my phone paid, and continued the rent on my apartment.

I was in utter shock because nobody expects their parents to keep everything in place for them for eight years after what I did.

I told her I would repay her from my savings, but she told me not to.

Instead, she helped me get back on my feet and get everything in place with my PO.

I'm thankful for both of them. Because of them, I was able to obtain a job in construction that pays pretty well for someone who was locked up for eight years.

It's not what I was expecting, but it's something.

Between working, spending time with my mom, and meeting up with Alexander, things have been going well for me.

I’ve even left a few notes for my sweet angel throughout the week between her office, car, and home.

You look beautiful today. -A

Remember the time I saw you in that green suit outfit of yours -A

You should leave Alexander for me -A

We should catch up -A

You’ll be safe soon -A

I know it seems pretty odd to be leaving these letters for her, but she doesn’t seem opposed to them. Sometimes I catch her smiling when she’s reading one of them. I know she has to have figured out it was me. If not, she's about to.

Today, Alexander has invited me over to his place to drink a beer and chill.

I was nervous at first because that means I'm going to run into Kabrina. I've been trying to avoid coming face-to-face with her, but he insisted on me coming over. Even though he’s a douche bag, I’ve been keeping him close.

What do people say? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

This is what I’m living by because I want to get close enough to him that he never sees me coming.

The closer I get to him, the closer I can be to her when she needs me to rescue her.

A few hours go by, and I look at the clock and see it's 5:00 P.M. It's time for me to head over to see Alexander.

After tracking Kabrina's habits over the past week, it appears she goes to work and home.

It's very rare that we will stray off and go somewhere else.

I'm so ready to see the shock that appears on her face when confronted with me.

I hop in my car, turn on the old 90's hip hop songs, and make my way to their house.

I've made so many drives to their house to watch what she's been doing that the route is embedded in my brain.

It's about ten minutes from my apartment, so I'm there in no time.

When I pull up, I park on the road because I see both Kabrina's and Alexander's cars in the driveway. I would hate to block one of them in.

As soon as I step outside of the car, I see the front door opening. There stands Alexander waiting for me.

“Hey, Amari, I'm glad you could join.”

“Wouldn’t miss it for anything.”

I enter the door, and that's when I lock eyes with my sweet angel. I don't know if she remembers me, but I surely remember her.
