13. Nylah
Nylah
Rosama was still texting and calling my line, and I was still ignoring him.
I was up in so many ways and had just got an A on my project in school.
The last thing I needed was a nigga I wasn’t with bringing me down, so instead of sitting around my house or going out with my girls.
I decided to hit that nigga Mario up and let him know that, well, it was his turn.
“Ms. Nylah?” he said as he picked up.
“Hey, Mario.”
“You got time for a nigga now?” he said playfully.
I laughed. “I mean, yeah. You want to give me your time?”
He sucked his teeth. “You know damn well I want to give you my time, and some other things.”
“So wussup, what’s the move?” I asked.
“Shit, lil’ lady, send me ya address and I’ll come scoop you.”
“Say less, I got you.”
After we hung up, I sent him my address, then went to my room to get dressed. As I was in my closet looking for something simple to put on, Rosama was calling me again.
I glanced at the screen as it rang, thinking about answering it, but decided to leave it alone.
“You don’t need a nigga like him in ya life, Nylah,” I mumbled to myself.
My phone then lit up again with a text from him.
Rosama: What the fuck are you on, ma? Get up with me ASAP.
I left him on read and changed my clothes.
Some time passed, and I heard a knock on my door as I was putting on some lip gloss. I quickly sprayed my body spray and went out to get the door.
As I opened it, Mario was already smiling.
“Good evening, baby girl,” he said, handing me a single rose.
“Hey, and thank you,” I said, taking the rose from him.
I walked outta my house and locked my door.
“I thought you played me,” he said as I turned around.
“And why do you think that?” I asked.
“The way you carried me, you acted like you had a list or some shit.”
I laughed. “Nah, luv, I had a date that night.”
We walked out to his car. He opened the door for me and helped me get in.
“If you are out with me, I am guessing that he fucked up.”
I laughed. “Somethin’ like that, but why you worried about the last nigga? You should be worried about me.”
Mario nodded as he pulled off. “You're right, ma, say less.”
As we drove through the city, Mario reached into his armrest and handed me some weed and a leaf.
“Can you roll up for us?”
I took it from him. “Yeah, I can do that.”
He smiled. “Let me find out you're a cutie that’s with the shits.”
“Don’t let my cute face and the cute clothes fool you. I can be a menace if I need to.”
“Oh really? And what would make you a menace?”
I smirked as I licked the leaf. “Get me mad and you will see.”
We made it to this lounge not far from me. Mario parked in the cut, and I lit the blunt. As we smoked, he asked me questions about my life and my dreams. I gave him half answers, already telling from his responses that he wasn’t the nigga for me.
Mario was giving me low vibrations. He didn’t have any goals for himself. He worked for the city. He didn’t want to be a manager or do a different job. Between that and rolling dice on the block, that’s all he saw for himself.
“So you want big things in life,” he said.
“Don’t everybody?”
He shrugged. “Yeah, I guess. But for me, I'm content.”
I nodded. “That is good to know.”
I looked around the room for some other niggas, maybe a nigga that had more to offer when he caught me.
“You didn’t like that response?”
I took a sip of my drink. “I mean, I feel everybody should want better for themselves. Maybe not celebrity status, but to upgrade their life.”
He shook his head. “Not me. My job keeps my bills paid, and I still have money on the side to fuck off every now and then.”
I nodded. “Cool…good to know.”
The rest of the night for me was just for a free meal. That nigga had nothing to offer but info about things going on around the city.
He had no pull to get into events for free, no VIP passes, no access to nothing special. The rest of the night went on. We danced a lil’ bit, ate some good food, and talked here and there.
It wasn’t late when he took me back home, and to be honest, I was glad to be there.
“Well, this was fun,” I said as I unlocked my door.
He nodded. “Facts, I hope we could do it again.”
I shrugged. “I don’t know about that, but it’s something to think about.”
He laughed. “Dammmnnn! You gonna do me like that?”
I laughed at him. “Mario, you have nothing goin’ for yourself.”
“What you mean?” he asked. “I am stable.”
I nodded. “You are, and that is a good thing, but I want a nigga that wants to take over the city, that knows it's nothing outta his reach ‘cause that’s the way that I live.”
He nodded. “Noted. Maybe I need your help with that. I never had somebody that moved like that.”
I smiled, taking in what he said. I could respect that.
“Iight then. I might be able to work with that.”
He smiled hard as hell. “That’s what I'm talkin’ bout, baybee!”
“You're dumb as hell,” I said, laughing.
He laughed back. “Nah, for real though, a lady with goals and ambition is somethin’ I never had a chance to experience. That shit might have changed my life a bit if I did.”
“We will see then. I’ma talk to you later.”
Mario reached for my hand and kissed it. “I will talk to you later, Miss.”
I walked inside, locked the door behind me, and went to my kitchen and poured myself a shot of Henny.
Just as I unlocked my phone to text the group chat to tell my girls what the hell I did, I got another text from Rosama.
Rosama: You tryin’ to make me hunt you down, huh?”
I smiled at my phone as I read the message. That nigga was crazy, I could tell, and I don’t know what it was about it, but I loved that shit.
