Chapter 14

Chapter Fourteen

Jenna

It’s been two days, and we still haven’t heard anything from the Devils. I’m starting to get antsy about going to my class tonight. I will not cancel, and it’s causing tension between Troy and me.

Then there’s the party tomorrow night.

The club is excited, and I’m planning to fake an illness because I don’t want to see what happens.

I don’t want to look at any of these people differently now that I’m starting to think of them as friends.

I’m not stupid. I get that the single men get rowdy, and I’ve been here long enough to catch sight of a few of the club girls.

I will not call them cut slut on principle.

They’ve been bringing in decor for the party and organizing the cooking of food. Gen helping them is what shocked me the most. When I asked her how she felt about them hanging around, she shrugged.

“It’s like being the den mother to strippers. They get out of line or break a rule, I ship them out. They know they need to behave.”

“Babe?” I jump when Troy calls me, so lost in my own thoughts that I hadn’t noticed he approached me.

Some great defensive fighting teacher I am.

“Sorry,” he crouches down in front of me so I have to look at him.

“It’s okay. I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I wish they’d at least tell us to fuck off. This waiting is killing me.” He frowns at that but nods in understanding.

“I get that. That’s why I wish you’d reconsider tonight’s class. My gut is telling me they’re just waiting for you to leave the clubhouse.” I sigh, taking his hands in mine.

“I can’t hide here forever.” He leans in and rests his head on mine.

“I know. We’ll have two enforcers with us for the ride. Spector is already at the gym with his team. If they try anything, we’ll be ready.” I smile and kiss him.

“Thank you,” I whisper into his lips.

“I accept payment in blow jobs and anal.” I push him away, laughing.

“No, really. I want in that ass so fucking bad.” He grabs at me and ends up tickling my sides, making me a giggling puddle of goo on the couch while the entire club glances at us.

“STOP!” I yell as my elbow catches his eye socket.

“FUCK!” he screams out in pain, and I pull away quickly to inspect the damage.

“Dammit, I told you not to tickle me. That I would turn violent, shit, it’s already bruising. Someone grab me some ice, please.” I call out toward the club girls unpacking groceries.

“Look at that shiner. Met your match with that one, Knight. I’d sleep with your good eye open.” Pirate points at his and the room erupts in laughter.

“Fuck you all,” Troy yells out as I take the ice pack from one of the girls.

“Want something for the pain?” She leans in, letting her tits hang in Troy’s face.

“Bitch, are you fucking crazy? Just imagine what I’ll do to you if you even think of ever ‘helping’ him again.” Someone nearby whistles as she backs away.

“Sorry, my bad. Forgot he was off the menu.” She saunters off, getting scooped up into Wizard’s arms.

She giggles as he carries her to the front door playfully, opens it, and tosses her out like yesterday’s trash.

“Haha, yeah, nice knowing you. Bye.” He slams the door shut and turns back to the others.

“What is the number one fucking rule?” Troy yells as he places the ice pack on his face.

“We don’t fuck with taken men.” The remaining three girls say.

“Dumb ass bitches will never learn. Especially that one. Good riddance.” Wizard says as he walks past us to help them put party stuff away.

“Wow, that was prompt,” I say, shocked.

Gen pats my shoulder and smiles.

“Which is why I don’t have a problem with them. None of the guys tolerate disrespect.” Okay, I guess I get it now.

“Let me see.” I peel back the ice pack and grimace.

“I’m so sorry.” I kiss his cheek, temple, and nose, and he chuckles.

“You’re worth the pain.” She smiles at me.

“How about the ridicule? Cause I am never going to let you live that shit down.” Pirate grins as he pulls Gen into his lap when she tries to walk by.

“Fuck off, respectfully, Prez. Where is my godson?” Troy looks around, finding himself in his highchair, flinging peas at the Tool feeding him.

Oh my God, I’ve gone native.

A giggle escapes me, and I cover my mouth, but Troy catches it. He arches a brow, and I roll my eyes but snicker at my own internal thoughts again.

“When I saw Zac, I thought ‘he’s with that Tool’. It made me realize I’m starting to sound like you all.” Troy hugs me and sighs.

“Good.”

“Don’t ask me again. I haven’t changed my mind.” I strap my helmet on and glance at the two club girls dressed exactly like I am.

Decoys, Spector’s idea.

One that I hate to the very core of my soul. If anything happened to these people because of me, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. Troy said they volunteered, but I’m still nervous as hell.

But not enough to cancel on the women who depend on me.

“Remember, you two are just backpacks tonight, and you are not getting any old lady statuses out of this. So stay in your lanes. Got it?” Troy says to the girls, who both nod.

“Thank you,” I say so they know I appreciate them risking their lives for me.

“Let’s ride.” Troy starts his Harley, and we speed off into the night.

The main gate was open for us when we approached, and as soon as we hit Harlem River Drive, everyone split up.

Three targets, three directions, and hopefully only one or two people to trail us, leaving them to choose who to follow.

It lessened our chances by a third, which to Spector was better than nothing.

I grip Troy harder and miss my Ducati.

I enjoy riding with him, but nothing beats riding on your own and cutting through the air faster than any human should be allowed to, with over two hundred horsepower between your legs.

It’s exhilarating.

The ride is short and thankfully uneventful, with us pulling into the alley behind the gym in no time. I hope the same can be said for the other riders. I hop off the bike and look around, not seeing anything abnormal. The back door opens, and Spector stands holding it open for us.

“Coast is clear. The others are heading back now.” I pat his chest as I pass him.

“What the fuck happened to you?” I laugh, letting Troy explain his black eye, as I walk into the locker room to change.

I have a class to teach.
