What? We were all thinking it!

My Alpha instincts fucking knew it, and I once again didn’t listen to them.

As I walked into the bowling alley, I thought I caught a hint of cinnamon rolls in the air but there were none of the delicious pastries to be seen. It was too coincidental. Now here I am staring at my little Runaway in the last place I would ever expect to see her.

Fucking Lake City.

“Wait…” I hear Taylor question. I feel his eyes on me, but I can’t look away from the brunette Omega standing still as a statue.

I’m too worried that if I blink, she’ll disappear, despite her current lack of movement.

“Is this- You’re- Uhm…” at my nod, he sighs.

“Momma Bev, you got something strong we can drink? I think we’re gonna need some. ”

“I can tell there’s a little bit of a story to tell here, but unfortunately for you boys that will just have to wait.

I need Miss Jac here to clean up some lanes before she leaves for the evening.

” Bev winks and wraps an arm around Jac, spinning her around and sending her off to the other end of the alley.

I stare after my Runaway, mesmerized by the Omega as she heads away. Her cinnamon scent lingers in the air; my Alpha wants nothing more than to follow after her so I can drown in her delicious perfume while burying my knot deep inside her undoubtedly warm pussy.

I hear a throat clear and shift my attention back to my pack around me, adjusting myself as discreetly as possible to make room for the hardening cock in my slacks.

“Is there something you want to tell us?” Luke pointedly asks me as his eyes dart between us.

“How about we get set-up with a lane, and I’ll share all the details with you, damn gossip fiends.

” Bev gives us a look before directing us to lane thirteen after helping us grab some drinks.

We all own our own shoes and have our own bowling balls so as we sit and start getting ourselves ready, I finally speak.

“I already know Jac.” I start, turning slightly in my seat to face Luke where he sits next to me.

“No shit, Sherlock. How do you know her? Mom only ever told me that she had taken in an Omega who was, and I quote, ‘one of the most amazing humans ever. She makes me wish we’d tried for a girl all those years ago.’” Luke mimics the older Beta woman's voice as he quotes her, earning snickers from Monty and Taylor.

“Jac was engaged to my older brother, Trent. I met her the summer before our senior year in college. She and I spent some time together while I was home. Trent worked a lot and we just became… friends, I guess.”

“Okay,” Taylor jumps in. “Then explain that reaction, because that was not ‘yay I am seeing an old friend.’”

“You guys know, I was there for recovery and had scent suppressants running through my system so we didn’t ever scent each other until we did.

She’s… my scent match.” I say. The tv screen reads my name which is the perfect escape after the metaphorical bomb I just dropped.

I casually stand up, moving to grab my bowling ball and step up for my turn to throw.

I send my ball down the lane, perfectly sending it careening across the pines and into the pocket between the first two pins.

Strike. The one time I wish I hadn’t thrown a perfect ball. Back to the wolves I go.

I turn back around to find Monty’s mouth hanging open, Taylor is just beaming, and Luke seems baffled by the whole situation. It’s not every day that one doesn’t immediately snatch up their scent match once they find them.

Trust me guys, I get it.

Monty is the first to break the silence.

“Why didn’t you bond with her when you found out?

” he says with a calm tone that means I can’t just say some generic answer.

Monty is the most observant as our pack leader, and his carefully chosen words always hit with a purpose.

If I popped off with some bullshit, he’d smell blood in the water faster than a shark.

He moves to take his own turn, slowly grabbing his ball. As the pack leader I know what he’s doing, he’s waiting me out, not rushing me on something so important.

“She was engaged to my brother, and from what I saw, they were happy. I wasn’t getting in the middle of that.

Even if she is the most amazing woman I’ve ever met.

” I hated that he had her, the one person in the world scientifically meant to be perfectly compatible with me.

Fuck. He always got everything. Or did he…

“Besides,” I continue, “I didn’t know until the gala for James Tech that she was my scent match.

Trent must have had her taking suppressants, because that night it peeked through and I knew right then that she was mine…

only she wasn’t. So I went back to school and, well, here we are I guess.

” I tell a high level of the story, appeasing my very annoyed pack leader standing opposite me on the approach area now.

Monty seems satisfied with my story and moves to take his turn.

I get lost in my thoughts, replaying that evening in my head.

Seeing Jac walking out of the room, I knew this was the moment.

Now or never, Taylor would say. Slipping out the other side, I ducked through several hallways in search of my Omega.

I turned a corner and all but ran her over.

I immediately jumped into action, grabbing for her.

My hands lingered on her hips, skin showing from the cutout of her gown and my fingers traced over it.

She smelled sweet, like… frosting, maybe?

She whimpered, my Alpha instincts urged me to find a more secluded space.

Without a second thought I ushered her into the first door I can find, a small closet, with mops hanging along the walls and acidic cleaner smell covering almost everything.

But then it cut through again. Frosting, but this time, cinnamon too.

Everything in me stilled as I turned her to face me.

She could smell me too, I could tell by the way her pupils dilated, and a rosy blush blooms on her skin.

“Mine.” I growled.

The next moment we were colliding. Lips and teeth clashed, not bothering to fight our instincts. Her curves fit against me so perfectly I couldn’t imagine holding anyone else.

Then, just like that, it was over. She ran away from me, leaving me in the closet alone and I didn't see her again. For the next year I only had the memory of that moment and the certainty that she was meant to be mine. After she bolted I waited in the lobby. Midnight struck and she didn’t show, I waited there until the event employees had to kick me out.

I walked to my car, hoping she’d be there but she just was gone.

I heard from my dad that she disappeared in the dead of night several days later.

“Okay,” Monty starts to reply, pulling me from that tiny little closet, “so you’re saying that right now, somehow, your scent match is over there—and it’s entirely coincidental that she’s managed to find her way to the town where the three of us grew up.

” He waves his hand between Taylor, Luke and himself.

His eyebrows raise, as if I’m missing the point.

“Anderson, if that Omega is the delicious cinnamon roll scent I caught while she was standing here, then I really don’t think we’ll have a problem.” Monty says, nodding towards Taylor, who looks as excited as a kid in a bakery.

“Respectfully Anderson, I just want to know if she tastes as good as she smells,” Taylor says as he takes a sip of his drink, only to spit it out when Monty smacks him on the back of the head. “What?! We were all thinking about it…” f

I roll my eyes and attempt to focus on the bowling going on in front of me, yet I can’t stop thinking about the endless possibilities now that I’ve found Jac. She might have run from me once, but I won’t be letting her run away again.
