Lights out.

jac

The day dragged on as I wrapped up with my duties at the alley.

I had to duck into the kitchen for the last hour because I couldn’t stop wanting to linger near Anderson and his pack while they bowled.

His citrus scent trailing me wherever I went, the leather and campfire scents following along, sending my Omega into a horny spiral.

I think back to how I never could let Trent know that Anderson and I had begun a friendship last summer. He saw us laughing once by the pool when he got home from work and I sported the bruising for weeks afterwards. always in hidden places, this time my ribs, at least easily covered by a t-shirt.

I knew after that night when he pulled me into the supply closet and ruined me with just a kiss, that I couldn’t hide my feelings any longer.

Trent and I had been at the James Estate for a couple weeks, but I’d hardly spent any time with him, or anyone for that matter.

All the staff seemed to be instructed to steer clear of me unless absolutely necessary.

The day Anderson walked in it was like I was seen by someone for the first time.

He and I were instantly taken with each other.

It helped that he was home recouping from his knee surgery and wasn’t getting out of the house much.

Honestly, looking back, I should have known we were scent matches, all the easiness between us was too right.

Things were just natural with him. Trent and I always had this awkward way about us. I was never a tame being, and he changed that. I had gone from opinionated and outgoing to shy and timid. As an Omega I couldn’t help but follow his rules, he was my Alpha.

Everything in me became dimmer around him, and I really didn’t know it until Anderson arrived.

Even though our scents weren’t present due to us both having suppressants in our system, the chemistry was undeniable.

We would banter daily by the pool, he’d ask me about me and what I wanted.

We’d daydream about the future and what we thought it would be like.

Of course, those daydreams never were connected, at least not that either of us said directly.

The night of the gala was the night I realized I couldn’t marry Trent.

I tried to delay the pack bonding ceremony for a year.

My parents were out of town, it was time for my heat, anything I could think of.

I was certain that I was with the wrong James brother, and I couldn’t do anything about it.

So instead, I chose to run and leave both Alpha's in my past.

But maybe this is a sign?

As I reminisce about my short summer days with Anderson, I miss the fact that there are four giants standing by the beat-up farm truck Bev loaned me.

I tuck my duffle bag closer to my body. My flight instinct kicks in, my breathing picks up and I look around the mostly empty lot for a getaway.

I can’t outrun them, but maybe I can outsmart them. Or maybe you want them to chase you. My body reacts to that thought with a burst perfume making all the men in front of me draw audible inhales of the air around them.

“Easy, Runaway.” Anderson coos, low and soft. His alpha purr subtly humming through his chest as he says what is apparently my new nickname. “We just want to talk for a minute. We have a proposal, and I think you will want to hear it.”

Luke, Taylor and Monty all take a step back as if they can tell my Omega is ready to bolt.

“Talk about what, Anderson…” I snip. I’m not sure I’m ready to hear what he has to say, because it probably means going back, and I am sure as hell not doing that.

“I left for a reason.” I state, keeping it short. I can’t tell him that it was because I couldn’t be stuck there, with him. I can’t finish the explanation of all the bruises and moments, I can’t admit that I let that happen.

“Jac, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize how bad it was. I found out after I went back to school and you were gone, if I had known—” His growl cuts off his words.

Monty reaches forward and rubs the back of Anderson’s neck.

The move is intimate… Interesting.

“If I had known, I would’ve left it all behind that night.

I would have taken you with me from that closet, we’d have run as far away as possible.

But I didn’t, and I can’t take that back now.

So I want to make it better. Make it right, if I can.

You were always meant to be mine, Runaway, please hear me out. ”

His eyes are now rimmed with tears that I know he won’t let fall. His pleading takes me back to that summer when we flirted with the line we walked and had all the conversations I never had with his brother. We bared our souls to each other every day, and each night. Oh god, his brother.

That thought flings the next sentence out of my mouth with a whimper before I can control it, “Please don’t take me back to him, I won’t survive it.” My eyes drop to the suddenly really interesting dot on my sneaker before I can see their reactions.

The collective growl I hear has my eyes flying to the source of the sound. All four men are visibly agitated, but I quickly realize that they aren’t mad at me, but rather for me. That thought has my core clenching and another small burst of perfume scenting the air around us. Fuck.

Their anger morphs into arousal as they catch my scent.

From stiff with anger to ready to pounce and eat me alive, these men so easily swap moods.

Everything in me lights up at this turn of their moods, slick begins to coat my panties at the idea of these four inhuman looking men taking me. In every way, every hole…

Shit Jac. Get it together.

Clearing his throat, Anderson speaks, deep and raspy as if he’s fighting with his Alpha. “Never Jac. You will never have to face him again… Not without us by your side at least.”

Monty and Taylor step up behind him, showing their silent support of his statement. Luke hesitates just for a moment, glancing between me and Anderson before doing the same.

“What does your offer entail?” I ask softly.

My Omega instincts know that I’ll go along with whatever he wants, but it’s got me too excited to hear the Alpha plead for me.

Until Anderson says, “Jaclyn Paige, will you please bond into our pack?”

And with that the world goes black.
