Chapter 3 Knox

I pulled into a park about a mile off the exit and another half mile up a county road. I used to play little league here, and I knew it would be desolate after dark at this time of year. With plenty of live oaks, no lights or traffic, it was exactly what we needed.

I cut the engine beneath the largest tree I could find, and the shadows came down around us. For a moment there was nothing but the hoot of a barred owl and Sloane.
