39. Free Fall
Free Fall
Cypress moved, and Torren followed, the scepter clutched in his hand. She started running, and so did Torren– straight toward one of the large windows.
“Lass,” Torren warned, knowing they were just as likely to slam directly into the glass and trap themselves as they were to break through the window.
But even then, there was still the fall to worry about.
Cypress reached beneath her skirts and pulled out a small dagger. She flipped the blade in her hand and threw it straight as an arrow toward the window. Torren watched the blade pierce the glass, sending spiderweb-like cracks through the entire window.
Torren reached out to her, linking hands once more before they leaped.
She shielded her face with her arm, Torren doing the same as glass rained down on them.
And then, they were free-falling through the air.
Torren heard the clarion call of the Winged Hound again, and then Cypress was ripped from his grasp.
Moments later, the massive, bird-like claws of the hound caught him around his middle.
Arrows rained down from the window as he and Cypress made their getaway, scepter in tow.
And, one less Blackthorne for Torren to kill.
