19. Adelaide
ADELAIDE
Sophie turned the corner, looking stunned. Tyson was annoyed and Vance amused. Fucking great.
“Babe, real quick, who are these studs and which one is mine?” Sophia thumbed behind her at the two Greek gods sitting at my bar, now grinning at us.
“I’ll let them answer that.” My phone buzzed and it was Laurel, my PR manager. “If you're all going to be here, please start looking through the new articles and viral videos and find out what the big deal is.”
“I don’t want to do that.” Vance said quickly.
“I understand that, but I’m asking.” He paused. “Vance, do what I’m telling you. You wanted me to be bossy and now I am. Fucking do it.” I grabbed my phone off the counter and called Laurel back.
“Good morning Adelaide.” Laurel was all business. Normally she didn’t even say good morning.
“It’s been a morning, that’s for sure.”
“Who are Tyson Mcnally and Vance Langston?” Right to it then. Super.
“I went on a date with each of them.” I answered as confidently as I could.
“Anything scandalous happen that reporters would show up at your house?” I could hear her typing.
“Not that I’m aware of.” That was the truth. I was a woman just trying to date in the city and remain anonymous.
I heard more typing. “I have my team rounding up the main topics. Currently they range from ‘devil woman sinks her claws in more victims’ to ‘has devil woman found her new love…or loves’.” The press was always brutal but those headlines burned a little.
“At least there is a positive spin on it this time.” I mocked, covering up my hurt feelings.
“Well, for now. Do you intend any long term connections to these men that I need to do some digging or background checks?” This was above and beyond for her but I know she was doing her job. She’d been sitting dormant for a few years, time to get my money's worth out of her.
“I don’t know Laurel. I just went on a couple dates and I ended up fucking each of them.” Might as well be honest. No use in lying now.
“Let me know. I’ll keep the information right now.
” More typing. “Mcnalley was a MMA fighter. Retired. Owns Asylum gym. Married once, no kids. Divorced.” News to me.
“Langston manages the Asylum gym. Never married. No kids. Currently boxing but has done MMA too, Mcnally is his trainer. Looks like he fights in smaller pairings but he’s doing well.
There’s an event coming up that has been advertised as a retirement fight since he is older. ”
“So my shitty history could ruin his career if he’s seen with me?” I said quietly, hating how disappointed I sounded.
“Potentially. Unfortunately your ex did a good job of making sure his issues were heard for a long time.” She sighed.
“I’ll keep digging, do you need anything from me right now.
” I peeked out of my bedroom window and paparazzi were still lingering.
I knew once Vance, Tyson and Sophia left they’d likely leave too.
“No. Thank you Laurel.” I hung up. Tyson was married? I didn’t ask, but I’m sure there was a story there. If I’d learned anything from my ex it was that you don’t assume anything about anyone.
