ADELAIDE

I didn’t want to corner Tyson with the fact that I knew about his ex, but he needed to be as prepared as he could. “How’s your ex wife with publicity?”

I swear he stopped breathing. I heard the bar stool slide back, then Sophia yelped as Vance presumably dragged her from the room.

“She’s fine.” He answered quietly. Guarded. He immediately locked up and didn’t give anything away. There was something to this woman and I needed to know who and why to protect him.

“Fine.” I closed my eyes, enjoying being this close to Tyson again but also being fucking annoyed. “That’s all?”

“Yes. Fine.” He didn’t elaborate. I’m sure that Laurel found what she needed on the woman, so I didn’t need to probe him further. That’s what I was telling myself anyway.

“They will likely find her. And if she has shit on you, you’ll want to address it now.” I kept going. He wasn’t really hearing me though. “Take it from me, it doesn’t take much to push people over the edge to try and get their five minutes of fame.”

“I am fully aware.” Ty didn’t elaborate, he instead sat me up on the counter and stood between my knees. “Lemon, a couple things.”

“C’mon. Not that again.” I leaned my head back against the cupboard and closed my eyes.

“I’m not stopping.” He grinned, now fully changing the subject. “First of all. No cat?”

“Sorry, no cat.” I motioned around me. “Just a Tyson sized house.”

“No shit.” He pulled me in for a kiss and I melted. “Second thing, I will continue to be with you through this whether you like it or not.”

I wanted it actually. I wanted both Vance and Tyson. “That’s perfect.” I pecked his cheek. “You should probably save Vance from Sophia.”

“He can handle himself.” Tyson answered confidently.

“What!” Sophia shrieked from the living room. “She can’t have both of you!”

“Are you sure about that?” I laughed loudly.

“Yes.” Tyson pulled me in for another deep kiss, running his hands up my back. “I just want a moment.”

I heard another knock on the door and Tyson groaned. “Who else would be here?”

“Probably the police.” I pushed him back and headed for the door and there was an officer standing in the entryway.

“Good afternoon ma’am. We’ve removed the paparazzi.” Fuck me, this wasn’t happening. This cannot be fucking happening.

“Thank you.” I nodded slightly. My ex’s father. Of course he’d come here. While I was locked in my house with my two hookups and my loud mouth friend. All of which were just trying to be supportive but this could get back to my ex, and that would be hell.

“Did you have anything else for me?” He asked quietly, clearly as uncomfortable as I was. I hadn’t seen him in years.

“No. You can go.” I dismissed him.

“Have a nice day.” He nodded and walked out.

Vance came around the corner. “What was that about?”

Pinching the bridge of my nose, I answered him begrudgingly. “That was my ex’s father.” I said quietly, I really wasn’t ready to try and explain that messy situation to them.

“Oh fuck.” Tyson breathed out.

“Yep.”
