ADELAIDE
I laid on Vance’s shoulder, feeling guilty for calling into work today. We had already spent the rest of Saturday and Sunday together. I should get out of bed…but I didn’t want to.
Sophia had called me twenty or more times and she’d soon show up at my door and I didn’t know how to explain any of this to her. She was my best friend and had been for a long time. Guilt was eating away at me not talking to her.
“Addy?” Vance squeezed my arm that was laying over his chest.
“Yeah?”
“I have to go into the gym for a bit.” He said quietly and I immediately hated that he had to leave.
“That’s fine.” Neither one of us moved. “I thought you said you had to go?”
“I do.” He rolled over onto his side pulling me into his chest. “I don’t want to leave you though until I know that you are okay.” I was not okay, but I’d play the part.
“I’m a big girl Vance. I can deal with this. I should go to the office at some point and talk to Laurel. She’ll have some information about this I’m sure.” Still no movement from either of us.
“Ty will come back around.” He said quietly. “He’s just a hot head and that gets the best of him sometimes.” That didn’t cover my severe reaction though.
“I don’t blame him this time. He was protecting his son and my poor reputation ruined that for him.” I ruined something else for him. I hid my face in Vance’s chest.
“His fucking ex ruined it. This isn’t the first time she’s used Tj against him.”
This was a surprise to me. “I don’t understand.”
“When he started to get really famous, she went after him for money because she knew he had it. That’s when she had her sign a document stating that she’d never say who Tj’s dad was and for that silence she’s paid really well.
” Vance kissed the top of my head. “Ty will handle Becky. I promise you that much. Then he’ll come back to this little fucked up piece of heaven. ” He laughed under his breath.
“Fucked up or just different?” I leaned back so that I could look Vance in the eyes.
“Different. Better.” He kissed me softly, instantly making me melt.
I thought more about what he said, that Becky signed a document that she wouldn’t say who Tj’s dad was. “If Becky spoke with a reporter or gave them information about Tj and that Tyson is his dad, she broke the contract with Tyson.” I sat up.
“That would be correct.” He ran his hands up and down my arms. “What are you getting at?”
“He’d need proof and I’m betting Laurel can get that for him. I can fix this.” I scrambled out of bed and to my closet. My phone plastered between my ear and shoulder.
“Good afternoon Adelaide. I thought I’d hear from you the first hundred times I called you.” Laurel was pissed, but I’d deal with that later.
I didn’t give her time to guilt me more. “Sorry, can you do some digging for me?”
“Probably already done, but go ahead.” I could practically hear her rolling her eyes.
“Can you find out who told the reporters about Tj?”
“I spoke with Tyson this morning, he asked me the same thing.” I should have known better. I gave Tyson Laurel’s number when this all started and she was an excellent person to have on your side when things like this came up.
“Did you find anything?”
“Not yet. The only thing I’ve pinned down is that the information was too specific for someone to find out just from tracking Tj.” Someone like his mother.
“I guess his ex has a history with stuff like this.” I waved my hand in the air, that’s when I heard laughing behind me.
