Chapter 4

Dakota

What an insolent prick. Coming up here, into my room, to argue with me and then saunter his way into my shower. I should drag him right out of there and throw him out.

Right onto my bed.

No.

But…yet…maybe yes.

I don’t often check my blood pressure, but it feels like it’s at an all time high.

I’m furious with my ex for abandoning me.

Lying to me. Stealing my money. Leaving me here.

And while I don’t miss him at all, I do miss someone.

The physical contact has been minimal and my body is craving someone.

A specific someone who’s singing to himself in the shower. Is that a rock anthem? Oh my God.

Yes, that was most distinctly the word champions in his song just now.

I should leave him alone to do his thing, but then again, why should I leave my own room.

So here I am rummaging around in my closet, making loud noises to let him know that I’m still here and am not backing down.

All the while, hobbling on one foot so as not to put too much pressure on my sore ankle.

Why does Cam have to be so hot? Can’t I just be angry with him and not want to take it out on his body?

I reach for one of my baggy sweatshirts and yank it off the rack. Only, in all my irritation, I pull way too hard and a crashing sound—rather than a gentle slip off the hagner—ensues.

I scream. Of course I scream. And then I stumble back and land on my ass. Inside, I’m growling so loudly that I don’t hear the footsteps that I should have. Instead, I hear a panicked voice in my ear and warm—wet—hands on my ribcage.

“You okay, Koty?”

Fuck.

My.

Life.

“I’m fine,” I grumble as I try to untie myself from his hands.

“I just fell.” And just when I think I’ve freed myself, I put too much weight on my injured ankle and slip down with my back pressed firmly against his wet chest and torso.

“Are you not wearing a towel?” My voice sounds way shakier than I’m happy with.

“No, I just heard a loud crash and a scream. I didn’t really think to search for a towel and dry off.”

“There’s one hanging on the back of the door, you could have just used mine,”

“I’ll remember that the next time I’m mid-shower and you scream like someone’s about to murder you.”

All of this conversation is happening while his hands are stabilizing me against him, and it doesn’t go unnoticed that I haven’t felt this kind of help in a long time. I just want to lean into it and accept the support. For once.

But how can I trust him after what he did to me? After what my ex just did to me a few months ago?

I’m so tired of trusting and being taken advantage of, and I just feel so irrationally…defeated. Allowing my emotions to get the best of me, I slump into him and let him take my weight.

“You seem like you’ve got a lot of pressure on you right now. What would you normally do to relax?”

“Fuck.”

“You don’t have to be upset with me—”

“No,” I say, turning in his arms for no good reason.

“I’d fuck.” His hands dig into my hips, and I let my eyes drop.

Drag down his chest and linger on his dick hanging heavy between his legs.

It twitches. I knew he was naked, and I was dying to take a peek.

That twitch I just witnessed gives me a little bit of pleasure.

What would it be like to make this man hot for me?

Beg for me? Is it the right thing to do?

No. I’m mad as hell at this guy. But am I thinking of how I’d like to tie him up anyway? Yes.

He’s here. And he’s super freaking hot. And I do have a lot of pent up pressure that could use some release.

I’ve never been a one-night-stand kind of girl because I enjoy the emotional connection too much, but there’s nothing if not a heaping boatload full of emotions in me right now. And they’re all directed at Cam.

“Um…”

“Never thought I’d see you speechless, Cam.” I put my hands on his chest. “Guess I found your weakness.”

“Um…” He stutters while I push him deeper into my room toward the bed. “What are you doing?” My hopping isn’t very sexy and he lifts me up to wrap my legs around his waist, which, really, feels like a mixed message considering what he’s asking me.

“What’s it look like?”

“You hate me.”

“Ya. So?”

“Is this a good idea?” He asks this while licking his bottom lip, so I’m thinking he’s into this.

“Let’s find out.”
