Chapter 20 #2
“Not much to move. Most of it was already there when I moved in. So it was just my clothes and other things I’ve collected along the way. Sloane did help me bring my bed in, though.”
“Are you sad?”
“Not really. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the place was nice. I’ll forever be grateful to you and Silva for welcoming me into Widows Peak with open arms. But it’s not my home.”
“This isn’t your home?” I look around.
“No,” he chuckles softly, my eyes finding his again. “You’re my home, Lexi. Wherever you are, that's where my home is.”
“Emmett.” My eyes fill with tears. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Peaches.”
“How is this our life?” I sniff, reaching up to wipe my eyes. “And why am I not freaking out? This is me we’re talking about. I should be losing my shit. I hate Alphas.”
“Hate is a strong word. Would you say it’s more like you don’t trust them? You have every right, but I think it’s different with Aiden and Sloane. The connection we have allows us to shut that part of our brains off and think more clearly.”
“How is being blinded by a scent match bond thinking clearly?”
He smiles, laughing. “More like it allows us to forget about all the hurt and pain for just a little bit because we’re in the presence of the people the universe hand-picked for us.
The Alphas who are meant to love and support us.
I’m not saying it’s like that with every scent match.
Like any designation, there are bad apples.
And I’m sure if they were truly evil men, we’d be able to spot it, scent match be damned.
We’ve been around evil. We know it. We’ve seen it with our own eyes. ”
“Yeah, that makes sense. Would you hate me if I said I like them? Like a lot. And I’m kind of excited about what comes next, but I’m also freaking the fuck out because it’s change. You know how I hate change. And then there’s the baby—”
Emmett shuts me up, pressing his lips to mine. I sigh, relaxing into his touch.
“Everything is going to be okay. We will be okay. I like them too. They’re good men and I’m excited to get to know them better.”
“You really marked Sloane, huh?” I grin. “Wild.”
“And you marked Aiden,” he chuckles. “Wild.”
“Look at us. A couple of wild Omegas.”
“I say we worry about this later.” He waves his hand towards his room. “Right now I want to soak in the bath with my favorite person on this planet and just relax. We have a long but exciting day tomorrow.”
“We do.” Nervous excitement bubbles up. “We get to see our baby.”
“We do.” He smiles. “Have I thanked you yet?”
“For what?”
“For giving me a chance to be everything you need in life.” His lips brush against my forehead. “And for giving me this baby.” He places a hand on my stomach. “I love him or her so much already it's kind of scary.”
I put my hand over his. “I know,” I sigh. “Me too.”
“We’re going to be okay. This baby is going to be okay. More than okay, they’ll be loved and spoiled. Nothing bad will happen. They have three daddies and a mama who would die for them.”
“They seem so excited for this baby too. Is that crazy?”
“No.” Emmett shakes his head. “I don’t think so. It’s equal parts of their Omegas. Why wouldn’t they be thrilled?”
“Because they don’t know us. How can it feel so perfect, so right? There has to be some sort of catch.”
“Normally, I’d agree with you on that. But they’ve already shown us the small things that other people might consider a flaw, but I don’t.”
“Like what?”
“Like Sloane as a whole,” Emmett chuckles. “I find him fascinating. I wouldn’t change him for anything. He is perfect the way he is. Some people might think he’s too much, and that’s okay. Not everyone is for everyone.”
“I agree. What about Aiden?” I haven’t seen anything that would cause worry.
“Babe, he pretty much stalked you for years.”
“What?” I laugh.
“He’s been looking for you for years. Spent a lot of time and energy on you. We think it’s fucking sweet as hell and down right romantic. To someone else, it might seem like overkill, or even that he is mentally unstable.”
My lips part and I gape at him before snorting out a laugh. “Okay, you got me there.”
“No one is perfect. We sure as fuck aren’t. It’s about finding the people who see those imperfections and love you anyway. Hell, they love you because of them. That's how I see our pack. It’s a bizarre connection, but we work.”
“When did you get so wise, my dear Omega?”
“Since birth.” He winks.
Emmett takes me to the bathroom and runs a bath with bubbles and relaxing music. I’m in this bubble of content happiness.
We don’t speak, just enjoy being in each other's company. Emmett undresses me, then gets naked himself. Nothing in this moment is sexual. It’s just the man of my dreams taking care of me like he always does.
He brushes my hair for me before helping me into the tub.
We’re there for around five minutes before I speak. He’s behind me, my back against his front as he lazily runs his fingers up and down my arm.
“I’ve been dying to know... what happened with you and Sloane today?”
Emmett’s chuckle is soft, his chest shaking with the sound. “He helped me move. And well, he somehow ended up finding one of my sex toys.”
“No way,” I gasp. “What did he do?”
“It’s Sloane,” he chuckles like we’ve known this man and how he’s been acting for years. “He made a joke, but I was so embarrassed. He was so damn sweet and comforted me. One thing led to another, and he sucked my cock.”
Heat floods my stomach at the thought. “How was it?”
“Amazing,” he sighs. “It took everything in me not to cry after.”
Turning my head, I kiss his arm. “I’m happy for you, baby.
” I know being able to feel something sexual again, for not only a man, but a male Alpha, is a big deal to him.
It tells me these men really are the right fit for us.
“So how did he get that bite mark if his face was between your legs?” I ask, smiling against his arm.
“That was after. We ended up kissing, and something inside me kind of snapped. I can’t explain it. It was like my mind and body wanted to claim what was mine.”
“I know the feeling,” I murmur, my voice low.
“Is that how you marked Aiden?”
“I can’t believe I did that.” I close my eyes.
“What happened?”
“He was just being his normal Aiden, sweet as hell, in the bookstore, and I started crying. He asked to hug me. Then we went to sit in the reading area with the couches. I was on his lap, arousal took over me, and well, I kind of dry humped him until we both came in our pants.”
“Oh my god,” he snorts. “Denny has to be losing his mind.”
“I don’t even want to think about it,” I groan.
“So, you marked Aiden out of instinct?"
“No. Actually, I did it to keep myself from making too much noise, but got caught up in the moment and bit him so hard I broke the skin.”
His arms lock around me, and he presses a kiss into my shoulder. He knows me so well. “How are you dealing with it?”
“I lost it,” I say, tears stinging my eyes. “I was ready to go into a full-blown meltdown.”
“Let me guess. He was amazing and talked you off the ledge?”
“Yeah. He said all the right words, and I just broke harder.”
“I think I want to keep them.”
“I think I want to keep them too.”
“So, that's it then? We’re a pack now?”
“I guess so.”
“So fucking crazy.”
“Downright insane.” I tilt my head back and smile up at him. “I’m glad I get to do all this with you by my side.”
He places a hand on my stomach and I rest mine over his. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Neither would I.
