Chapter 29 #2

And I’m going to be right by their side just like I have been for the last thirteen years.

Just because we don’t spend every day together doesn’t mean I don’t have a bond with these women.

They’re my friends, my chosen family. We have been through so much together and came out on the other side. And we’re going to do the same tonight.

“You good?” Silva asks, searching my eyes.

I give her my best smile. “I’m perfect. Are you ready?”

“Yeah.” She nods. “It’s going to be over, Lexi, finally. After all these years, he’s going to be put down like the dog he is.”

“I can’t fucking wait.”

The guy’s plan is get us in, let us girls have our chance to take the lump of flesh we’re owed, and then Aiden and Harlan’s contacts in the government will come in and clean up the mess.

The guys will do all the grunt work, and we’re reaping the rewards.

I’m not the first choiceto plan these kinds of things, but if you tell me what to do, I’ll get it done.

“We’re going to sneak in just like we talked about,” Harlan, Aiden’s older brother, addresses the room.

I’ve been around him a few times, but haven’t had a conversation with the man. He looks a lot like his brother; handsome, only more scary? Guess we’re both lucky to end up with some good looking Alphas. Leave it to Silva and me to find ourselves brothers to pack up with.

We plan to break into two teams once we’re inside the mansion. Lark will be on one team, doing what she does best with her hacking skills. Kyren, one of Silva’s new men, who happens to be the hacker of the guys’ team, will go with the other group

We will go in, search each section for the different age groups of girls, grab them, and help them escape. We will all be in the lookout for that son of a bitch Gideon.

Sloane and Emmett will be by my side the whole time, so I know I’ll be safe.

I can’t believe he’s doing it. I can’t believe Gideon is having another party. The party.

Actually, of course I can believe it, who am I kidding? This monster will do anything for money and power.

Now not only do we get to take down Gideon, but all his slimy friends who came to buy a damn Omega, too. Buy! Like we’re fucking cattle or something. Fucking sick pigs.

We go over the plan, the best we can, making sure everyone knows their role.

Then we get suited up. We all have comms in our ears, and Silva hands me a knife that I slip into a secret compartment in my right boot.

“We’re burning the midnight oil,” Harlan calls out. “Let’s go!”

My heart starts to race, stomach dropping.

“Ready?” Silva asks.

“Ready.”

“We got this, sis.”

“We got this, Firefly.” I nod back.

Silva heads over to her pack, and I turn to mine. “I’m going to shit my pants,” I huff out.

“Don’t do that. We don’t have time for potty breaks.” Sloane grins.

“Good thing I peed before we left. But if I have to, I will piss my pants tonight for the greater good.”

“I’m not sure if I should be proud or grossed out,” Sloane chuckles.

“Both.” I shrug.

Harlan starts to move, and we follow after him, pulling ski masks over our faces to hide our identities.

We climb into the SUVs and the air around us is buzzing with a mix of excitement and determination. I know that's how I feel. A little fear too, but I clamp that down.

This fucker took enough from me. I’m not allowing him any more power over my life.

We drive until we make it to the vehicle hideout, and everyone gets out and into position.

With the ski mask over my head and gun in hand, I’m ready. I don’t plan on using it unless I have to. Let’s hope I don’t.

We get to the property line and my heart starts to hammer in my chest.

Sloane steps away from me, and though I feel a jolt of panic, I let him go.

My eyes widen when I see a guard as we round a tree.

His eyes match my shock, his mouth opening to scream for backup, but Sloane slams the side of his hand against his trachea so he chokes instead.

Moving quickly, he places his large hands on either side of his head and twists hard.

Holy motherfucker. My Alpha just snapped that guy's neck. In one go.

I’m not sure if I should be turned on or terrified. Maybe a bit of both.

Now is not the time to get horny, Lexi. Relax!

Emmett joins Sloane, and together they grab his legs and pull him to a nearby ditch, dumping his body in it.

With how badly this area of the property is maintained and the fresh blanket snow, the body will be hidden well.

I follow behind, unhappy about the fact that I can’t see fuck-all. Why, of all the nights, did the moon not decide to make an appearance tonight?

Thankfully, my eyes are starting to adjust, and I’m able to see a few feet in front of me.

Once the groups break apart, everything becomes more real. We’re really doing this. Maybe I should have taken more combat training before deciding to come here, but it's too late for that now.

When we make it to the mansion, I notice that Silva stays behind with our group as Sloane opens the door, unlocked thanks to Lark.

I’m about to ask her what's going on when she ducks inside and takes off.

Silva, what are you up to now?

Knowing my sister, she has her own plan cooked up in that crafty brain of hers. I just hope she stays safe.

“Stick close to me, baby,” Sloane warns. “Don’t be a hero, and don’t be a brat.”

“Yeah, yeah.” I wave him off.

“Lexi,” Aiden warns.

“What?” I whisper. “I’ll be good! Now shh or you’re going to get us caught.”

I turn to Luna, who’s right next to me. “Alphas, am I right?”

She snickers. “Whatever you say, Lexi.” She pats my shoulder.

“Now who needs to keep quiet?” Sloane snarks back.

“You,” I hiss.

“Enough! Everyone, shut up and follow me,” he growls low.

I bite my lips closed and follow after him.

With every second that passes, I grow more and more anxious.

I nearly scream when a guard rounds the corner as we’re heading up the stairs to the first wing. Thankfully Aiden is on it, covering the man's mouth so he doesn’t make a sound as Sloane shoots him in the head, his gun hardly a whisper thanks to the silencer.

I try not to think about the dead man as we continue on.

When Sloane sees the hallway of doors, he sighs. “Let’s get to picking these locks.”

One by one, we break the locks open. With each scared Omega’s face, I feel a rush of relief. Once we have them all, we head to the next wing, each girl doing their best to help get the next set of locks open.

Unsurprisingly, we get the second wing unlocked to find more terrified young girls. It makes me fucking sick that he can do this and sleep at night.

We’re making quick work of the last set of doors when someone rounds the corner. I knew this was too easy.

In a panic, I jump to my feet, grab my knife, stabbing it into one of the guards' necks.

“Oh fuck,” I squeal.

“What's wrong?” Sloane asks.

“I killed him. I’m sorry. I panicked. He just popped up out of nowhere.” I look at him with wide eyes.

“It’s okay, Kitten. He’s the bad guy. That's the point.”

“Right.” I nod.

“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?” Aiden asks, checking me over.

“No.” I shake my head. “I’m fine.”

“We got everyone,” Emmett says. “We'd better get out of here now.”

“We did it.” I grin at Luna, nearly in tears. “We got them.”

“Yeah, Lex, we did.”

We look over at the girls who are standing tall, brave, and strong. “You’re going to be okay. We’re gonna get you out of here.”

They all nod, but no one speaks.

We let everyone know we got the girls. I’m grinning like an idiot as we make our way back outside.

There’s shouting coming from somewhere in the mansion and I look to my Alphas, face filled with unease.

“I’m going to get them to the vans, guys,” Emmett says into the comms. “Activity is gearing up for some reason. I think they’re realizing that they’re light on guards. Be careful.”

“Be safe,” Aiden warns Emmett, grabbing the back of his head and pulling him in for a kiss.

“You too,” he replies.

“Don’t do anything stupid,” Sloane warns, then kisses him too.

“Emmett.” I wrap my arms around his neck, kissing him hard. “I love you. Get them to safety, okay?”

“You got it, Peaches. Listen to our Alphas,” he warns.

“I will.” We kiss again quickly, and I watch as Emmett leads the group of girls toward the tree line.

“He’s going to be okay. He’s got this,” Aiden reassures me.

I hope so.

I’ve lived such a mundane life for the last ten years that I forgot how real the world can be. This isn’t the reality check I wanted, but it’s one I needed.

So much has happened in such a short time, but what matters is that the girls are safe with Emmett, and Silva announced through comms that she has Gideon.

Sloane and Aiden left me with Syrus and the other Widows so they could help Silva. I just heard her scream over the comms, and I feel like I’m going to be sick. I want to run to her, to help her, but I know I’d only be running into danger.

I need to let the guys handle this.

We make our way through the house, following Syrus. Someone runs out in front of him, and we all stumble to a stop as he lifts his gun.

My eyes widen when I see Viv, one of the house's handlers. My gut turns at the sight of her. She is just as much of a monster as Gideon.

Aries stops Syrus from shooting. “Death is too good for her,” Aries snarls. “Viv, you fucking bitch! Stop running.”

Syrus shoots Viv in the leg, and it fills me with a sick satisfaction. Stupid bitch.

“Ah! I’m innocent! Leave me alone,” Viv yells, falling to the ground and clutching her leg.

“No one who works here is innocent,” I snarl. I rush over with Lark, helping her pin Viv down.

“Two down, one more rat to find,” Lark grunts.

I watch in shock as Syrus expertly hogties Viv. “I’m really glad you’re on the right side of things,” I mutter. “I need to talk to my sister later.”

Syrus drags Viv into a room by her hair, leaving her to be dealt with later.

We continue to follow Syrus, and I almost jump out of my skin when we run into Kyren.
