Chapter 30 Joke Gone Wrong
The week went by slow with three out of the four of us grounded, and my three brothers in high school were busy studying for their midterms that were on Thursday and Friday. Logan and Ru where busy making sure they had grades in. Ben and Bruce had some big deal at work that they were closing so they didn't get home til late each night. So there wasn't much to do all week.
It was Thursday night and everyone was busy studying or working. I had finished all my homework and was bored. Not being able to watch tv or be on my phone sucked. I went into the closet that had our games and puzzles in the entertainment room. I grabbed a puzzle and went into the kitchen and started working at the table. I don't know how much time passed but I was about seventy five percent down with the puzzle when I heard Ben and Bruce come in from the garage. They were talking about work when they passed the kitchen door and both paused.
"What are you still doing up?" Ben said glaring at me.
I was slightly confused there was no way it was that late. We hadn't ate dinner yet. "What time is it?"
"Ten o'clock." Bruce said looking at his phone. "An hour past your bed time."
"Well I don't have a phone and I didn't think it was that late cause we haven't ate anything."
"You haven't had dinner?" Ben's face turned from a glare to concern and I nod. "Bruce fix her something quick and then you young lady go to bed."
"Yes sir." We both say as he walks away and then Bruce makes me spaghettiOs.
"I could have done that." I mumbled as he put it in front of me.
"No biggy love now eat up and get to bed" he said kissing my head.
I ate and then put my puzzle away and went upstairs to bed.
The next morning I got up and got ready for school grabbing my back pack and cheer bag. I went down stairs and grabbed a muffin from the thing of muffins that Logan had made. It wasn't long before the other three came down looking drained and tired. I guess they had been up all night studying.
"Ugh Logan why does your midterms have to be so hard. I am so going to fail." Wes wines as he grabs a muffin.
"You got this bud! You're smart and you know the material." Logan patted his hair and then ruffled it.
Wes sighed and steps away from him fixing his hair. While they ate I filled my water bottle up.
"Morning everyone." Ben said as he walked through the door and passed me kissing my head. "Sleep well?" All three of the younger boys groaned shacking their heads. "Guess that answers my question. Well boys good luck on your midterms." The three groaned again.
"Come on peanut we need to get to school early." Sam said grabbing his keys with the other two heading to the garage. The day went slowly and it took forever to end. Once the final bell rang ending school I stayed in the gym with some of the other cheerleaders.
"Are you ready? It's the last football game of the season." Mia sat down on the mat next to me stretching.
"Yeah it's kind of sad it's the last game though." I sigh going into a split and laying my upper body on the mat.
"We still have basketball. Plus sometime you get to cheer high school Kat so you will still do football." LeeAnn sat down on the other side of me. "How do you just lay there? After doing the splits for half a minute I hurt."
"It helps me stretch plus I have done it for so long it doesn't bug me anymore. It just takes time." I shrug sitting up and pulling my legs in front of me.
What will kat do when she is faced with the people she and her brother love. Will she be able to choose who she will be with. Or will she leave them all behind? She neve...
"Don't you know by now Kat is like a pretzel." Mia said.
"A flipping pretzel." Summer plopped down in front of our group facing us. "She's our best tumbler."
"I am not that good. I am not learning anything new. I used to be in gymnastics and learned new tricks." I sigh sitting in a butterfly position and pushing my knees down.
"Why aren't you still in it?" Summer raised an eyebrow.
"Well I moved in with my brothers and I am kind of scared to ask them to put me in it."
Mia rolled her eyes and groaned "Are you serious? Kat your brothers are rich they can afford it. Plus they love you and got our entire cheer team Chick-fil-A because of you. They will put you in gymnastics."
I shrug "I guess you're right maybe I will ask over break."
"Okay girls! I don't want to ware your out to much because it's the last football game so I want to run the half-time performance once and then you can chill til we take the field in an hour." The coach pulled everyone's attention towards her.
We all get up and take our places and wait for her to start the music. I won't lie being at a private school had its perks. In my last school we went to cheer competitions and we had a hard routine but it's nothing compared to this school. Starting in November we will start competing in competitions and let's just say we only know half of our routine and it's hard. Our half time show is the level that my last team was which is just a taste of our competition one.
"Alright girls not to bad just make sure your hitting every move and sticking the stunts and tumbling. Other than that rest for the next hour and get ready to take the field."
We all just hung out and sat down some girls went around and put dots on everyone's face in our school colors. They did the style that had one side above your eye then goes down and across your nose and under your other eye. I always let them do mine because I never could keep the dots straight.
"Hey Peanut." Sam said as him Wes and Jere sat down on the bleachers with me and some other girls that all made goggly eyes at the three. "Here's some food." He said handing me a McDonald's bag.
"Thanks." I smiled grabbing the bag and pulling out the chicken nuggets and fries."
"Oh and here is your drink." Wes smirked as he took a drink and then handed it to me.
"Ew Wes don't drink my drink I don't want your cooties!!" I snatched my drink away from him rolling my eyes.
"What cooties? I am clean! I have all my shoots." He whined as the girls around us giggled.
"So not true I don't know who all that mouth has touched just today!" I shot back. "I saw you making out with two other girls earlier this week."
"Two? Damn Wes at the same time?" Jere smiled and punched him in the shoulder. "That's my boy!"
"No it was on different days but it looked like he was a sucker fish and trying to suck her face off. Maybe you can teach 'your boy' to kiss a girl right and not slobber all over her." I retort back side eyeing my brother as his face turned bright red from the girls giggling at him.
"I am going to go back to Logan's room see you guys later." he all but whispered and got up walking away. Guilt creeped up as I felt a little bad for embarrassing him, he always jokes around with everyone and I thought he could take it. But maybe I went too far.
"That was kinda mean Kat!" Jere glared at me standing up and fallowing our brother.
"I...... I...... didn't mean to be mean." I mumbled looking at Sam who had a stern look on his face.
"Well that was mean and rude. He just found his confidence to talk to girls this year and now he might not do it again." Sam shock his head, stood up and walked in the same direction as the other two. Maybe I took it too far.
"It's okay Kat, they will get over it. Plus Wes won't be shy for two long to many girls want a Kensington they will push him to talk to them." Summer said patting my back. "Plus I have said way worse to my brother."
"Yeah but Wes has never been mad at me." I sighed and looked down at my food. "Here you all eat this, I am not hungry anymore I think I am going to go say sorry to him." I got up and headed out of the gym. I head to the high school and make my way to Logan's room as my guilt eats at me.
I was mapping out in my head how I would apologize when I walked up to Logan's room. The door was open and I could hear the boys talking. Wes sat in Logan's chair while the other two stood in front of him with their backs to the door.
"I can't believe she said that in front of those other girls I am so embarrassed." Wes whined.
"Yeah it was pretty bitchy of her to say. I know I don't remember much about our Mom but isn't that like something she would say?" Jere spat out with an attitude of disgust.
"From the little I remember plus what our brothers have said yes it is." Sam said looking down at the floor.
"From what I can tell Kat is just like that god awful woman. Ben should have just left her where she was! We were just fine without a bitch like that living with us." Wes' words shot pain through my heart. Was that really how he felt?
"Hey look at the bright side I am pretty sure Ben was half tempted to ship her off after her melt down when she ran away. One more out burst like that and we might be lucky enough to get rid of her." Jere's words on top of Wes' did it for me. I felt the hot tears start to fluid my eyes and roll down my checks.
I tried to hold in the sob that plagued my throat but it slipped out causing the boys to turn to my direction finally noticing that I was there. All three of their faces dropped realizing what I had heard. However Wes and Jere quickly replaced them with anger. "I just came to tell you that I was sorry. I was just joking around and I didn't mean to take it that far. I had no idea that was an insecurity of yours other wise I would have never ever said anything. There is just a lot I still don't know about you all and I should learn before I try to joke around about what could be a sensitive topic for some. I am really sorry and it didn't look that bad when you were kissing the girl. They looked pretty happy with it." I turned around and started to sob harder as I ran to the bathroom with the three of them fallowing behind me.
Before they could catch fully up to me I was in the girls bathroom and locked in a stall.
"Kat come out please." I heard Sam yell from the hall.
"Go get her Sam." Wes said.
"I am not going in there. This is between you and her." Sam replied.
"We don't know how much she heard you said things too Sam!"
"Who cares leave her to cry alone. Why do we care she attacked you first Wes. I am sure that apology was fake. She probably learned how to fake it from our Mom." Jere piped in.
"Jere she's our sister." Sam said in a sad voice. "What ever she heard or didn't hear was just us talking in anger we didn't mean it."
"Well I did. She can go back to where she came from. This family was better off without her less drama. I mean think about it, your girl friend and you didn't have any issues til she came around. She started drama with Ben's girl friend and us meeting her. Shes the reason everyone walks on egg shells. We are better off without her." Jere's words cut through my heart like a sword. "I am leaving, peace out." He said and I heard footsteps walking away.
"Maybe he is right Sam." Wes sighs. "I am going to go see if Reuben or Logan will take me home." I then heard him walk away.
"Wait Jere I will just take you two home. No need for you all to stay for the game if you're just going to glare at her the entire time." Sam said as he retreated away.
I sat in the bathroom for a good five minutes crying before I stepped out of the stall. I grabbed a paper towel, wetted it down and cleaned my face. Once I looked better and like I didn't just cry my eyes out I made my way back to the middle school gym.
The best thing was that when I went in coach was telling us to grab our stuff and head to the field. I went to the bleachers and grabbed my back pack and cheer bag and fallowed the other girl out of the gym.
