Chapter 10

TEN

Diamond.

“I know you fucking lying.” I hissed lowly. I’d just gotten out of the shower after getting Keona back to sleep and in bed, and now someone was knocking at my door.

I need a freaking doorbell camera!

Tossing the cover off me roughly, I reached in the drawer for my mace then stomped down the hall to my door, checking the peephole to see who the fuck could be at my house in the middle of the night, but yet again that stupid décor on my door was in the way.

“Who is it?” I asked.

“It’s me. Open the door.”

“Makhai.” I frowned, but opened the door, leaving the chain on just like last time. “What are you doing here?”

“You gon’ do this every time I come through?”

“Yes, considering I don’t ever invite you first,” I rolled my eyes. “What are you doing here?”

“Open the door, Diamond.”

I scoffed. “Weren’t you just with a bitch? You are not coming in here after sleeping with someone else and after insulting me?”

He sucked his teeth at my response. “I didn’t crack that hoe, man, and I was a lil’ lit, so my apologies for saying that shit. I was out of line.”

“Well, you still shouldn’t be here. It’s…” I turned to glance at my stove and check the time. “Four in the morning, Makhai.”

“I know, so open the door ‘fore I wake ya neighbors up with us.”

I narrowed my eyes at him before slamming the door to remove the chain fearing that he’d really do something ridiculous and wake all of my neighbors for real.

Once I had the door open, he smirked sexily at me then lifted from where he was leaning into the door frame. I thought he was going to go to my living room, but this fool started down the hall. I quickly closed and locked my door then hurried behind him.

“What are you doing?” I whispered harshly. I didn’t want to wake Keona by yelling at stupid ass.

“‘Bout to lie down.”

“Makhai, you need to get your ass out of my bed.” I frowned. “I don’t do street clothes in my shit.”

He wasn’t wearing what I’d seen him in earlier. He was now in some basketball shorts, an Essentials Fear of God hoodie, socks, and slides. I’d never seen a man dressed down look so delicious, but I couldn’t focus on that. He needed to get out.

“It’s four in the morning baby, and a nigga is beat.” He emptied his pockets, placing his phone, keys, wallet, and gun on the nightstand. “A nigga just needs to lie down and close my eyes for like two hours.”

“You have a hotel room here, I’m sure.” I narrowed my eyes at him. “Why didn’t you lie your ass down there?”

“Because I couldn’t get yo’ ass off my mind.” He pulled his hoodie over his head and tossed it to the side followed by taking his shorts off, then he made himself comfortable in my bed. “Come on,” he patted the empty side. “Lay your ass down.”

“Makhai,” I closed my eyes briefly. “I have gotten no sleep. I’m not in the mood for any foolishness.”

“Me either. I’m tired as fuck.”

“Then go get on the couch,” I pointed.

“Fuck I look like?” he frowned. “This bed barely big enough for me, you think I’m ‘bout to get on that lil’ ass couch.”

“This queen sized bed is just right for me.” I rolled my eyes and walked toward the bassinet where my niece was sleeping to check on her. She was sleeping soundly, so I went to the other side of the bed to slide in. I opened the nightstand drawer to put my mace back inside.

“What you was gon’ do with that shit?” Makhai asked as he laid down.

“I should have showed you.” I rolled my eyes and slid down in the bed. I barely had my head on my pillow before his muscular arms were circling my body and pulling me closer. He nuzzled his face in my neck and I wanted to whoop my own ass for enjoying the feeling and melting.

“Think some mace can do something to me.”

“I would have found out. And move, Makhai.” I barely nudged him. I enjoyed being in his arms unfortunately, but I needed him to think I didn’t.

“You don’t want me to move, girl,” he chuckled. The vibrations from it had chills covering my body. “You love being this close to a nigga.”

“I do not.” I lied. “You just left another woman and came to get in my bed. You’re a piece of shit and her pussy is probably trash.”

“I wouldn’t know because I didn’t hit.”

“But you were going to.”

“Possibly, but I was thinking about yo’ ass the whole time.” He looked up at me and smiled. I could see it because the pink LED lights that circled my ceiling gave me the perfect view of his fine ass. I normally turned them off, but I didn’t want Keona to wake up and the room was pitch black.

“That is not a compliment, so I don’t know why you’re smiling.”

“Shit is a compliment,” he laughed. “Couldn’t get right because I kept thinking about this pretty ass face and how you had a fucking attitude because I was with the hoe.”

“I didn’t think about you or that bitch after I left you out there,” I lied.

I was fuming knowing I was trying to apologize for what I’d said and hurting his feelings while he’d already recruited someone inside the club and planned to go with her for the night.

I was well aware of how attractive I was and knew I was a catch because not only was I a pretty woman, but I had my shit together too.

The differences between me and the woman he’d chosen tonight, as well as the ones I’d seem him with prior, were glaring.

I was more on the petite side, but still shapely.

I didn’t wear barely there clothing, and I damn sure didn’t deal with men because of their status or the commas in their bank accounts.

Makhai knew who he was, just like Tristan knew, and that normally got men like them what they wanted. They could flaunt their money and social status to women and have them falling at their feet. I’d seen the shit happen countless times before. I didn’t want to be one of those women.

I wanted a man that was secure and willing to take care of me, sure, but I wanted one that was satisfied with just me. Makhai wasn’t a one-woman man, that much he’d proven, and I wasn’t trying to get my heart broken by dealing with him knowing he’d have me somewhere sucking my thumb later.

“Well, I thought about you, so I left that hoe where she was, went to shower then came to see you,” he nuzzled his face again. “What you wearing? You smell good.”

“I’m not wearing anything. I just showered then put on some body butter,” I chuckled.

“It’s edible?” He glanced up and smirked.

I scoffed but smiled. I couldn’t help it. He was so fine, and his smile was literally panty soaking. I was doing everything I could to hold it together.

“You wish.”

“On Lord, I do, but I can wait ‘til baby girl not here.” He popped his head up again. “She been doing aight?”

“Yes, she’s fine. We’re adjusting. I felt bad about getting a babysitter already.” I confessed.

I literally cried when I left her with Ms. Joyce, my neighbor across the hall, but me and Kabria had bought tickets to Breeze’s concert and the after party months ago. I didn’t want to waste the money, but I almost didn’t go until Ms. Joyce overheard me telling Kabria I couldn’t.

She insisted that I let her keep the baby and go out after I explained everything.

I didn’t have many people to help me out or that I trusted, but me and her talked often since she stayed across the hall.

She said that Keona was the perfect baby when I got back to get her.

She’d told me to leave her until tomorrow morning, but I felt like I’d burdened her enough.

“Why?”

I shrugged. “Keona needs me. I don’t want to leave her and put her off on other people.”

“Getting a babysitter ain’t putting her off on nobody. You had a life and shit going on before your sister selfishly put you in this position.”

“Yeah, I know, Ms. Joyce was happy to watch her, but still,” I sighed. “I won’t be doing anything else for a while.”

“Cap,” he countered. “I’m gon’ take yo’ ass out soon, so we gon’ need a babysitter.”

“Excuse me? Who says I’m going anywhere with your crazy ass?”

“Me, fuck you mean?”

“Makhai, I am not getting caught up with you.”

“I don’t know what caught up supposed to fucking mean, but yo’ ass going on a date with me real soon,” he said, snuggling against me. “Ms. Joyce can keep baby girl again, or I can fly my mama out here, but either way we going.”

“Out here? When do you plan on going back home.”

“Tomorrow,” he chuckled. “But I’m coming back to take you out and shit.”

“Makhai, you can have any woman you want, we both know that. Why are you wasting your time with me?”

“How I’m wasting my time?”

“Because I’m not sleeping with you ever and I’m not your type.”

“My type?” he repeated. “I ain’t got no type. Fuck you mean?”

“I mean I’ve seen the kinds of women you’ve dealt with, and they are worlds apart from me. I haven’t laid on a table or seen a doctor for enhancements, and I have no desire to. I don’t strip or any of the other shit you like women to do…”

“Naw, see you got me fucked up.” He chuckled and released me to sit up some.

“You only see the shit they put in the media. I don’ hit all kinds of bitches.

Short, tall, big and small—long as they Black, born a woman, clean with a decent enough face to keep my dick hard, they can get hit.

I don’t care about all the other shit because after I hit, I’m gone anyway.

I don’t want to just fuck you though. I want to spend time with you, get to know you, take you out and all the other shit you do to court a woman because you worth all that shit to me.

Quit comparing yourself to the hoes you don’ seen me with online or in the clubs.

They ain’t fucking with you in any way shape, form or fashion. On Lord.”

I blushed even though I shouldn’t have because what he was saying was insulting to other women, but I still appreciated his words. It also made me feel good that he wasn’t just looking for sex from me. I was sure that’s what he thought was going to come of this, but I was obviously wrong.

Pulling the cover up over me a little more, I said, “Goodnight, Makhai.”
