Chapter 3
Eve gets to the hospital four hours after Julian. She has already texted Danny that she is en route, and that Julian stole her early flight (but also booked the later one).
Danny is waiting for her when she arrives.
Eve throws open the door of the Uber before it has come to a full stop and tumbles out into the mist. There in the cool morning, in the glow beneath the eaves, Danny steps forward.
Eve runs to him. She wraps her arms around him, pressing her face into his shoulder.
He touches the back of her head carefully, running his fingers through her hair.
In the morning’s edition of the Times, a journalist mentions, in a wry sort of way, the mystery of Eve Olsen’s label and manager insisting she would be present at her own vigil last night.
It does, one must admit, make a person wonder.
Eve looks up at Danny, and he back at her, and then he touches his lips to her forehead, and they are both just right there.
