Chapter 8 #2
“It’s not sad. If everyone felt like they should be doing something else, there would be a lot of jobs that weren’t being done.
The important thing is if you’re happy with what you do.
You also have to be able to support yourself with it.
There’s always room for growth in any profession, if that’s what you want to do.
At the end of the day, it’s whatever your heart desires and no one else’s. ”
“You’re right. With me being in a new town, I wanted to do something I was familiar with. Maybe after I’m fully settled, I could find something else.”
“I wouldn’t want you to leave, but I would understand if you did.”
I had gotten used to seeing her face every morning, and I looked forward to it. Every day, on the way to work, I wondered what she would wear or what scent she would smell like for the day. I was tweaking, and I knew it, but I couldn’t stop it either. I wasn’t trying to.
“Who knows.” She shrugged.
“Not a soul.” I chuckled, and she giggled.
We sat on the bench and just talked. We shared childhood stories; she told me things about her hometown. I had never been, but it wasn’t that far from the Valley, and she said her parents and best friend were still there.
I felt relaxed when I talked to Mycah. Shit just seemed to flow easily.
At times, we would get quiet, but it wasn’t awkward.
We both seemed to just enjoy each other’s company.
It had been a long time since I had meaningful conversations with a woman.
The sexual tension was there, but I wasn’t trying to rush things.
“Thanks for helping me with the event.”
Mycah probably hadn’t noticed that we sat so close our knees touched.
“You’re welcome.”
“I guess I better get you back so you can pick up Cashmere.” I glanced at my watch. “Plus, I’m supposed to meet my siblings for dinner.”
Mycah jumped up from the bench. “Oh no, you aren’t going to be late, are you?”
I chuckled at how cute she looked with her eyebrows wrinkled. Mycah really did look like a doll baby to me, especially when she got excited about something.
I stood up and reached for her hand. For a minute, we just stood there gazing at each other.
“You are much better company than they are.” I rubbed my finger in the middle of her palm. “They’ll be there whenever I get there.”
I needed to talk to my siblings because I wanted their insight on my dilemma. They both always had my best interest at heart, and I knew they would keep it real with me.
“I guess we better go then,” Mycah suggested and turned to walk away.
I didn’t let her hand go, so I was right next to her.
The walk back to my truck was silent, as we both took in the environment. The park we picked was the perfect location, and they even had some covered tables just in case it rained. We still had some other details to iron out, but I was confident the event would be perfect.
Once we arrived at the police station, I pulled up next to Mycah’s car, then helped her out of my truck.
“It was nice spending time with you and learning more about you. I’ll see you tomorrow. Get home safely.” I opened the door for her when she unlocked it.
“I feel the same. Enjoy dinner with your siblings, and I will see you in the morning.” She slipped into her car and turned it on.
I waited until she was out of my view, then got back in my truck and headed to the restaurant where my siblings were. I already had a couple of missed texts and a missed call from them both, but I’d explain everything once I got there.
“Bro, tell me you did not tell that girl that your dick got hard.” My sister shook her head and gave me that disappointing look she gave me when I did something she didn’t like.
Koda just laughed and took a swig of his drink.
“I did. It was supposed to stay in the recesses of my mind, but you know I don’t bite my tongue.”
“Obviously, but in this case, you should have. What if you would have offended her?”
The second my butt hit the booth, my siblings questioned me about why I was late. They knew I wasn’t at work, so that meant I must have been up to something. I waited until we ordered our food to tell them about Mycah.
“I knew I didn’t because she’s been flirting with me since the day we met. Even before we met, I knew she was attracted to me.”
Koda leaned forward and looked me in my eyes. “How?”
I went on to explain to them about the brief interaction between Mycah and me the first time I saw her driving by.
I knew then she was feeling me since she almost ran the stop sign.
It was a good thing no one else was out there.
Now that I think about it, as an officer of the law, I should have given her fine ass a ticket.
Koda leaned back and rubbed his beard, while Karma just shook her head.
“I mean, it seems like she may be interested as well, but I don’t want you having any problems. It sounds like she’s good at her job, and you don’t want the same thing to happen like the last time,” Karma stated.
“Nah, I don’t think that would even happen.
I was thinking about asking her on a date but also explaining to her that we would have to keep our dealings discreet.
At least until we solidified things, if that’s the route we take.
” Mycah wasn’t the type of woman I would hide, but to keep things neutral at work, we would have to move a little differently.
I wanted her to also understand that no matter what, her job would never be in jeopardy if things didn’t work out.
I wasn’t banking on things going wrong, but I wanted her to have that reassurance.
“I say go for it, but be careful, Bro. If you feel like shit might go left, cut it off and keep things professional,” Koda suggested.
“I agree. It seems like you are feeling her, for real, because it’s been a while since you mentioned a chick you wanted to take on a date,” Karma added.
She wasn’t wrong either. I hadn’t had a real relationship in a few years.
The last chick I was in a relationship with left because I was too busy focusing on becoming chief, and she felt neglected.
She wasn’t entirely wrong, but I also thought she would have supported my dreams more.
Once she left, I just stuck to work and fucking women when I felt like it.
I hadn’t tried anything serious since then.
Mycah didn’t seem like the casual fling type of chick, so I was curious to see how things played out.
I chose to not tell them about Mycah’s previous situation because, for one, that wasn’t my story to tell, and I didn’t want them to overthink things.
“You know we will support you either way,” Karma said as she patted my hand.
“Thanks.”
I spent the rest of the evening with them, catching up on things. Their support meant so much to me, and I was glad they were on board with me pursuing Mycah. She hadn’t left my mind since earlier, and I hoped she would be down to at least go on one date.
