Chapter 11

It was date night, and I was nervous. This date would determine if all the flirting Kairo and I did was for nothing or not.

We might get to the date and realize that maybe we really didn’t like each other, but I honestly didn’t see that happening.

It was always good vibes whenever we talked with or without people around.

I wasn’t sure what would happen after the date, but I couldn’t worry about that. I needed to live in the moment.

While I got ready, I talked to Chanel so she could help me decide on a dress.

“Okay, we have this dress.” I stepped back from the camera so she could see it.

“Mhm. It’s cute, but I think you need more sexiness. You can’t look at him as your boss; you have to have the mindset that this is a real date. Pretend it was someone you didn’t know. How would you dress then?”

I thought about it, and she had a point. I think I was trying to be more modest because of who it was, but there was no reason why I couldn’t put on something that I would have worn on a date with a stranger.

“Okay. One second.”

I moved from the camera, took off the dress, and put on another one that I had picked out. Once I had it situated, I stepped back into the camera.

“That’s the one. That man is going to drool when he sees you.”

Since I wasn’t sure where he was taking me, I settled on a black dress with a deep V cut in the front that amplified my breasts and stopped mid-thigh.

“You think so?” I looked at myself in the mirror, and I had to say that I did look good.

“Yes! You should wear that long silver necklace you have with some strappy heels and a small bag. Cute, sexy, and simple. Put your hair up, but let a few strands hang down. Those small diamond studs you got for your birthday last year will top it off.”

“Hold up, let me get all of that.”

While I gathered my accessories, Chanel talked to me about things going on in her life. She informed me of some people that had asked about me. She would tell them I was okay but would never disclose where I was if I didn’t want her to.

Once I had everything on, I stepped back into the camera.

“Yes, bestie! You look good.” She squealed. “I’m so excited for you. Hopefully this is your chance at something real.”

“Maybe.”

We talked a little while longer while I applied my makeup and switched out my bag. Cashmere was already settled for the night, so I didn’t have to worry about him.

A few minutes after Chanel and I hung up, my doorbell rang.

I took my phone off the charger, put it in my bag, then headed downstairs. Cashmere tried to come with me, but I told him not to. I didn’t want to get dog fur on me or Kairo.

Kairo’s eyes lit up as soon as I opened the door.

“You look beautiful.” His eyes perused my body, and he licked his lips.

“Thank you. You look nice.”

Kairo wore white linen pants with a black shirt and black shoes.

The first two buttons of his shirt were open, and a gold chain rested against his chest. Since his shirt was short sleeved, most of his tattoos were on display.

Instead of his normal frames, he had on gold ones, and damn did he look good in them.

“Thanks. You ready?”

“I am.”

I locked up my house and took Kairo’s hand that he held out for me.

He led me to a green Mustang, then helped me in. The car smelled fresh like he always did.

“You ever rode in one of these before?” Kairo asked after he entered the car and buckled his seatbelt.

“I have not.”

He smiled at me, then turned the car on. It roared to life and vibrated underneath me.

“It’s loud, but I can control it if it’s too much for you.”

“No, it’s good.”

I actually enjoyed the aggressive roar of the engine, but I did like that he could turn it down if he wanted to. Driving around in a loud car would eventually get aggravating to me.

“Good.” He pulled away from the curb, then took off down the street.

We vibed to the music and talked as we drove to wherever he was taking me. I didn’t ask him where we were going because I knew he wouldn’t tell me anyway.

It took us about ten minutes or so to arrive at a hotel. I wasn’t sure why we were there, but I didn’t feel like Kairo was on some other stuff.

Kairo pulled up to the valet area, then helped me out of the car.

“I figured we’d have dinner, then I could take you on a tour of the Valley,” Kairo said as he placed his hand on my back and led me into the restaurant.

“I like that.”

We walked inside and were seated immediately. As we walked to our table, multiple people spoke to him.

When we reached the table, Kairo pulled out the chair for me, and I sat down. He walked around to the other side and sat across from me. The waitress placed the menus on the table and told us she would be back in a little bit to take our orders.

“This place is fancy.” When I looked at the name on the menu, I looked up at Kairo. “Wait, is this your family’s hotel?” I didn’t pay attention to the name when we arrived.

“It is. I wanted to show it to you. The food here is good, and I’m not just saying that. One of the best things about it is the views of the sunrise and sunset. The sky changes a multitude of colors.”

“That sounds like it’s really beautiful. Everything looks so nice and regal,” I said as I looked around the room.

Black tablecloths covered the tables, and each table had a single candle in the middle. There were gold accent pieces on the walls. It was a little dark outside, but I was able to see the water out of the window. It looked like it was a beach.

“It’s been around for a long time. In fact, the seventy-fifth anniversary is next year. The colors reflect the royalty of the Bishop name.”

I nodded. “I can see that. You said your brother runs it, right?”

“Yes. It was passed down the line, and whenever, if ever, he has kids, one of them would be next in line.”

The waitress came over and took our orders, then left us alone again. Jazz music played over the speakers, but it was at a reasonable volume.

“Why wouldn’t it go to your kids first?”

“Nothing is set in stone as to who it would go to, but I honestly figured that if I had a child, they would go into law enforcement like me. Now that could change, so who knows.” He shrugged. “No matter what, it would always stay in the Bishop family.”

“Good. It really is amazing that you guys own a whole hotel.”

Kairo wasn’t a flashy guy and always seemed so humble, so it was surprising to know that his family had money. I mean, that was my assumption since they owned an entire luxury hotel.

Kairo told me the story about how his dad’s side of the family had gotten into the hotel business. He also mentioned his brother wanted to expand, but he hadn’t planned anything out at the time.

I hung on to his every word while he talked. The waitress had come over with our drinks and informed us that our food would be out shortly.

“Do you feel pressure to do certain things or act a certain way because you are the oldest?”

“At times, I do. My parents are good examples of love and life, but I still feel like I had to set the precedent for my siblings. I can’t be the oldest and be on some dumb shit all the time.

I would never want my brother to follow in my footsteps if I didn’t have my shit together.

And I for damn sure wouldn’t want my sister to struggle in any way.

Now, even though I feel like I’ve done a good job, I couldn’t stop my brother from being the way he is.

He’s a good dude, but he’s a ho.” He laughed. “He doesn’t lead anyone on, though.”

“I mean, I’m sure he comes across plenty of women in his line of work. You probably have too.” I paused for a second. “You probably have done some stuff before too. I mean, you did fuck your assistant.”

The waitress returned with our food and refilled our water cups. She also made sure we were good before she walked away again.

“I shouldn’t have told you that.” Kairo chuckled.

“I’m not innocent, though, by no means. Koda is still worse than me.

I don’t want that for my sister, though.

Because even though a man can tell you he doesn’t want more, that doesn’t stop women from developing feelings and feeling like it’s more than what it was. ”

While Kairo talked, I took a minute to eat my food. I almost moaned because it was good, but I refrained.

“That’s true, but you don’t think men do things to make a woman feel like that?

Like, you can say that, but your actions could show otherwise.

Don’t tell me it ain’t nothing but turn around and cuddle me after sex or take me out on dates.

If it’s just sex, let it be that. Fuck and leave the money on the dresser. ” I laughed.

“Damn, like that?” Kairo asked as he scooped some food onto his fork.

I chewed the food in my mouth, then answered his question.

“Exactly like that. Maybe not the money on the dresser part, but yes to the rest. Sex already blurs the lines at times. Then you add affection and spending time outside of the bedroom, you get a chick hiding in your bushes.”

Kairo almost choked on his food as he cracked up.

“That’s real specific.” He squinted. “Let me find out you be hiding in bushes.”

“Never. I’m not going to lie, though; I have felt like I wanted to before.”

I once dated a guy named Shawn who had dick for days and could eat cat like the rent was due.

Chanel and I called him Pinocchio, though, because he was always lying.

He lied about things he didn’t need to lie about.

We weren’t exclusive, so it was okay that he dealt with other women, but he would never admit it.

I had to cut him loose, but I did miss the D at first.

“Don’t worry. I won’t have you hiding in my bushes.” He winked.

“I wouldn’t have to, because I know where you work.” I smirked. “I wouldn’t play around like that, though. Work is work, and I wouldn’t want to cause issues for either of us.”

No matter how good the dick was, I wasn’t messing up my money for anyone. I had bills to pay and enjoyed living life as much as I could and needed money to do that.

“I could be speaking prematurely, but I know for a fact that I wouldn’t give you a reason to act like that.

After that last situation, I made a vow to myself that I would only date and have sex with a person I could see myself being with.

I like you, Mycah, and I honestly want to see where this could go.

I’m not asking you to be my girlfriend, but I want to actively pursue you.

I want us to go on dates and shit. Of course, at work, we should be discreet, but I want to spend more time with you. ”

“I wouldn’t mind spending more time with you as well.”

Kairo was easy to talk to, and I didn’t feel pressure to be anyone else other than me. It didn’t feel like he was only trying to have sex with me, even though the more I spent time with him, the more I wanted it.

We finished our meal, and I was too full for dessert, but we both took a piece of strawberry cheesecake to go.

“You down to explore the town a little? We don’t have to get out or anything. I just want to show you a few places.”

I hadn’t had much time to explore, so I wasn’t opposed to it. I wasn’t ready to part ways with him anyway.

“I’m down. What about our cheesecake, though?” I didn’t want my cake to be out for too long and it go bad.

“I have a cooler in my trunk that will keep them cool enough for a little bit. We won’t be too long.”

“Okay.”

Kairo held our cheesecakes in one hand while the other one was on the small of my back. When valet brought the car up, he helped me inside, put the cakes in the trunk, then pulled off.
