Chapter 1 Not a Sanatorium
"Wang Ba, male, thirty-six. One week ago he lured a thirteen-year-old girl into his home and assaulted her. During the act, the victim begged for mercy multiple times. You ignored her and beat her instead, fracturing her ribs, leaving bruises all over her body, and tearing her lower body..."
"Enough, enough!" Wang Ba dug at his ear with his little finger. "I've heard this verdict so many times my ears have grown calluses."
He leaned back and laughed. "I came here to recover. Not to play courtroom games with you, Director."
Behind him stood two police officers, one older and one younger.
The young Officer's face was full of hatred. At those words he shoved Wang Ba hard. "Behave yourself!"
Wang Ba swayed his head as if the law could do nothing to him now, completely dismissive of the police.
"Director Li, this is his psychiatric certificate."
The older Officer took a document from his briefcase and handed it over. "Please look it over. See if there's any problem."
He bit down especially hard on the word "problem."
Unfortunately, the person who had issued Wang Ba's certificate was very professional. There was no flaw at all.
I shook my head.
"Hahaha!"
Wang Ba suddenly burst into mad laughter. He pointed at his own head and shouted at the young Officer. "Officer Zheng, I told you long ago—I'm mentally ill! You can't do a thing to me!"
He stepped forward until his face was almost pressed against Officer Zheng's.
"I'll tell you again. A Sanatorium is a Lawless Sanctuary. After a few years I'll walk out. A hundred times more comfortable than prison. And..." He licked his lips and showed a filthy smile.
"A few years of mine, for her thirteen years—it's not a loss no matter how you look at it."
"Animal!"
Xiao Zheng's forehead veins bulged. He swung a fist, but the Officer beside him held him back.
Wang Ba spread his arms. "Come on, hit me! Use your future to punish this scum!"
Xiao Zheng's eyes blazed, but he could do nothing.
Wang Ba then turned to me and held out a hand. "Director, please look after me from now on."
I paid him no attention.
"First, congratulations on finding the only Lawless Sanctuary."
I drew the electric baton and drove it into his waist. A massive current flooded through every limb at once. He screamed and crashed to the floor.
I squatted down and studied that disgusting face.
"Second, on my turf you follow my rules. This is no Sanatorium."
"This is a Madhouse."
