SOLEI #2

I reached out and touched his face. His skin was hot and damp with sweat. “I’m sorry I hurt you,” I said, and I made sure my voice was full of emotion. “I’m sorry I wasn’t the woman you needed me to be.”

“Solei…”

“Shh.” I leaned forward and kissed him softly. His lips were chapped and he tasted like wine and desperation. “Let me show you. Let me make this right.”

He kissed me back and his hands came up to grip my waist. He was pulling me closer, and I let him because I needed him to believe this was real.

I needed him to let his guard down completely.

I deepened the kiss and draped my arms over his shoulders.

He moaned against my mouth and his grip on my waist tightened.

I could feel him relaxing into it, believing that maybe I really did want this, that maybe I really was choosing him.

My eyes were open even though his were closed.

I was looking over his shoulder at the dresser where the wine bottle sat.

It was maybe ten feet away. If I could get to it without him noticing, grab it, and swing it hard enough, I could end this.

I pulled back from the kiss and looked into his eyes.

“Lie down,” I whispered. “Let me take care of you.”

He didn’t even question it. My head game was top tier and I’d never sucked anyone’s dick except Money’s.

Darius had never even asked for it when we were together and I was always glad.

I watched as he lay back on the bed and looked up at me with so much hope and longing that I almost felt guilty for what I was about to do. Almost.

I climbed on top of him and kissed him again. My hands were on his chest, and I could feel his heart racing beneath my palms. He was completely vulnerable right now. “I need some wine,” I said against his lips. “To calm my nerves. Is that okay?”

“Yeah. Yeah, of course.” He was breathless and eager and so fucking stupid.

I climbed off him and walked to the dresser.

My legs were unsteady, and my vision was still blurry around the edges, but I made it.

I picked up the wine bottle and felt its weight in my hand.

It was perfect. I turned back to Darius, and he was watching me with a soft smile on his face.

He thought I was really going to drink the wine.

He thought I was really going to come back to bed and make love to him. He thought he had won.

Taking a sip as I walked back over to him, I smiled. “Close your eyes,” I said softly. “I want to surprise you.”

He closed his eyes, and I raised the wine bottle above my head, and I brought it down as hard as I could against his skull.

The sound was sickening. A wet crack followed by a spray of blood.

Darius’s eyes flew open, and he looked at me with shock, confusion, and betrayal.

He tried to sit up, but I hit him again.

And again. And again, until he stopped moving and there was blood everywhere, and I couldn’t tell if he was breathing or not.

The wine bottle slipped from my hands and shattered on the floor. I was shaking so hard I could barely stand. I looked down at Darius, and his face was covered in blood, and his eyes were half open and staring at nothing. “Oh my God,” I whispered. “Oh, my God. Oh my God!”

I stumbled backward and nearly fell. I stumbled to the bedroom door and yanked it open.

The hallway was empty and quiet. I hurried as quickly as I could down the stairs, gripping the railing so I wouldn’t.

The front door was at the end of the hallway.

I ran to it, grabbed the handle, and pulled, but it didn’t open.

I pulled harder. Nothing. It must’ve been locked from the outside but how?

“What the fuck?” I was crying now, full-on sobbing as I pulled at the door with all my strength. “Please… please!” I knew that I was trapped.

I ran to the nearest window and noticed it was locked as well, so I picked up a lamp and tossed it at the window.

It bounced off like a joke. Shatterproof windows?

What the hell? I sank to the floor in the living room and wrapped my arms around my knees.

I started hyperventilating. I couldn’t stop shaking and I couldn’t think clearly enough to figure out what to do next.

And then I remembered Darius’s parents had a landline in the den.

As I scrambled to my feet, I was praying he didn’t have good sense enough in his state of mind to cut the home’s main power.

I made my way into the den and grabbed the phone.

My hands were shaking so badly that I could barely hold it.

I dialed Money’s number and held my breath until he answered.

“Who the fuck is this?”

“Money,” My voice came out as a whisper. “Money, it’s… it’s me.”

“Soul?” His tone changed immediately. “Baby, where the fuck you at?”

“Darius… Darius’s family lake house. He kid… he kidnapped me from Majesty’s.” I was crying so hard I could barely get the words out. “Money, I hit him, and there is so… so much fucking blood. I… I think I killed him, and I can’t get out. I can’t…”

“Baby,” Money’s voice cut through my panic like a knife. “What’s the address?” I riddled it off to him as best as I could. “This muthafucka hurt you?”

“My head…”

“Can you walk?”

“Yes.”

“Soul, I need you to hide, baby. Can you do that for me?”

“I don’t… I don’t know where to…”

“Find a room or closet. Just hide real good and don’t make a fuckin’ sound. You understand me? I’m comin’.”

“Okay.” I sobbed.

“Go now.”

“Money…” I needed to tell him I loved him. I needed to tell him I was sorry for everything. I needed to tell him that if I died here, I wanted him to know that he was the only man I had ever truly loved. “Money, I…”

I heard a sound behind me to see Darius. His face was covered in blood, and his eyes were wild and furious. He was holding his head with one hand, and there was blood dripping between his fingers.

“You fucking bitch,” he said, and his voice was barely human.

He crossed the room in three strides and grabbed me by the hair.

I screamed and dropped the phone. I could hear Money’s voice coming through the speaker, shouting my name, but I couldn’t reach it.

Darius dragged me away from the phone and slammed me against the wall.

My head connected with the plaster, and pain exploded through my skull. My vision went white.

“You tried to kill me,” Darius said, and he was crying and laughing at the same time. “You tried to fucking kill me.”

“Darius, please…” I could barely see him. Everything was blurry and spinning.

“No more, please. No more sorry. No more lies.”

He slammed my body against the wall a third time, and I felt something crack. The pain was unbearable. I couldn’t breathe or think straight. I couldn’t do anything except feel the agony radiating through my entire body.

“Dar… Dar…” I tried to say his name, but it came out as a whisper.

“You ruined my life!” He yanked my head up roughly and punched me in the face. My head bounced off the wall, and once again, everything went black.
