Chapter 41 How Well Do You Know Your Husband?

Sunny Lin's expression changed, and she looked at Clara Bennett differently.

She hadn't thought of that!

If she put herself in Mr. Thomas Sun's shoes, she would definitely act out of personal interest.

After all, she was no saint.

"It seems I still lack the most basic understanding of human nature!" Sunny laughed. "Clara, you're usually quiet, but when you speak, you make a lot of sense!"

"My judgment might not be correct either," Clara smiled lightly. "But Mason Reed told me to always be cautious and keep an eye out. He also said that people in high positions have had a difficult journey to get there, so they're far from being as simple as they seem."

"Oh, so your husband is your life coach now?" Sunny teased, but Clara couldn't stop praising Mason.

"Of course, our Mason knows a lot!" Clara said proudly. "Sunny, did you know? I often see him browsing foreign websites. He can understand several languages and keeps up with politics and economics!"

"What?" Sunny was also amazed.

Thinking back to her first meeting with Mason, his overwhelming presence and powerful aura, if she hadn't known about his past fights and jail time, she would have thought he was someone extraordinary.

"Clara, how well do you know your husband?"

Clara paused. "Why do you ask?"

Sunny smirked. "Just making conversation! You talk about him like he's some kind of genius, and now I'm curious about him!"

Clara smiled innocently, but then realized she didn't know much about Mason. Apart from his "glorious history" and the fact that he had no family, there wasn't much else she knew.

...

The next day, as soon as Clara arrived at work, she was called into Mr. Thomas Sun's office.

Clara felt a bit uneasy, but Mr. Sun smiled amiably at her and even had his secretary bring her coffee. He sat across from her, quietly observing her.

"So you're Clara Bennett," Mr. Sun said with a light laugh. "I've heard about the talented person in the sales department who secured Mr. Shaw's deal in her second month at the company. I've been wanting to meet you, and today I finally get the chance!"

"You're too kind, Mr. Sun," Clara said, setting down her coffee cup, neither humble nor arrogant. "You can see me anytime you want, but you're usually busy, and my performance in the sales department isn't particularly outstanding."

Mr. Sun narrowed his eyes and looked her over again from head to toe.

This Clara was not only beautiful but also eloquent. In just a few sentences, she had managed to save face for him while not boasting about her own achievements. She was indeed a talent.

No wonder his niece was so wary of her.

But the company was in dire need of capable people right now, and losing someone like her would be a loss.

If they wanted to deal with Clara, they could do it at any time, but it couldn't be obvious. They needed to make her suffer, yet make it look like the company and its leaders were promoting her.

That was the only way to achieve their goal.

Mr. Sun touched the gold ring on his finger and gave a cunning smile.

"Clara, the reason I called you here today is to assign you a task."

Clara looked at him.

"The company has been wanting to enter the Central City market for years," Mr. Sun said calmly. "But it's a tough market to break into, with many competitors vying for a piece of the pie. Our company doesn't have a particular advantage, so we've had to watch others make money."

"Now that two key members of the sales department have left, taking many clients with them, the market situation is quite severe."

"So, the shareholders and I have discussed it and decided to promote young, capable, and high-performing individuals."

Clara furrowed her brows, her heart pounding.

Mr. Sun smiled at her, a complex look flashing in his eyes. "Clara, we all agree that you're the perfect fit for this vacancy."

"Mr. Sun, what do you mean...?"

"Those who can, work harder," Mr. Sun said deliberately. "You're the best person to develop the Central City market."

Clara thought for a moment, a sense of unease creeping up from within.

"We've all seen your previous sales plans, and they were perfect," Mr. Sun praised her. "Your performance speaks for itself, and your abilities are outstanding. We don't want to miss out on a talent like you!"

"Clara, if you successfully develop the Central City market, the board won't just make you a sales team leader. They'll promote you directly to sales manager, taking over Jason Ford's position. What do you think?"

...

After leaving Mr. Sun's office, Clara took several deep breaths to calm her racing heart.

She patted her face, her brows furrowed, her mind a blank yet chaotic mess.

She hadn't been in the workforce for long and had been relying on her instincts to navigate everything. She couldn't figure out what Mr. Sun was thinking or what game he was playing. Was she a pawn or a sacrificial piece in his strategy?

The bait of becoming a sales manager was tempting, and she saw the development of the Central City market as a challenging opportunity.

But was it an opportunity or a danger?

Clara sighed and wanted to return to her desk to think it over, but someone approached her, letting out a cold laugh.
