Chapter 17

Looking at my watch, I leaned against my car as I waited for Summer to pop her ass up at my mama house.

She picked here because she knew I was going to snap.

If it wasn’t for my mama, I wouldn’t have known she was back if my mama hadn’t caught her ass in the grocery store.

Summer came creeping around the damn corner looking scared.

“A month? You been home a whole goddamn month and ignoring my fucking calls and shit.” I approached her as she got out the car. She looked drained and sick.

Summer put her hand up as if she was telling me to leave her the fuck alone. “Law, I didn’t come to argue with you. I’m tired as hell so what the fuck you want?”

“If you answer the damn phone then your sick ass wouldn’t be standing here. The only thing we need to discuss is the child you carrying. When do you go to the doctor?”

“I went yesterday.”

“Excuse me? Muthafucka, you went yesterday and you ain’t call and say shit?

As a matter of fact.” I pulled my phone out.

“I called and texted you yesterday and you left me on read. If you plan on having a baby by me you better grow the fuck up and fast. I’m too grown to play games with your ass.

‘Cause if I walk away and say fuck it, you’ll be in your muthafuckin’ feelings. ”

“Law, I don’t care if you walk away or not. From the damn hickey on your neck you been real damn busy.”

“Shit, you the one to talk. You must have forgot I can see your damn snaps. You show everything but that nigga but you been out there fucking too so what’s the issue? If I can remember, I’m single as a stripper ones.”

Summer waved me off and attempted to get back in her car but I stopped her.

I didn’t want to argue with her. It was good to see that she was doing good.

Besides her looking tired, she was still as beautiful as the day I met her four years ago.

The one thing I’ve wanted from her, she was carrying and we were out here acting like there was nothing between us.

“Summer, get in here and get something to eat. I don’t know why Law ass got you standing out here,” my mama yelled.

“I’m good.”

“No you’re not. Come on, I cooked something I’m sure you’ll want.”

Summer’s face brightened as she walked by me, heading towards the house.

The whole city knew my mama had some of the best cooking.

I locked my car and went in the house to see Summer already sitting down with a plate in front of her.

She looked up at me and rolled her eyes.

Summer had my mama fooled but I know she was ready to go off about my damn hickey.

Pinkie got a little carried away but she could do that because I didn’t have to answer to anyone.

“Now that both of y’all in here. What we going to do about this baby? Summer, don’t be so hard that you push Lawton away. Same things goes for you, too, Lawton.”

“I’m cool. I’m trying to work with her but she being difficult. What the hell she want me to do?”

“Don’t talk like I ain’t sitting here. What I want you to do is damn apologize for cheating.”

“Cheating?” I laughed. “Who the fuck I cheated on? You the one had niggas calling your phone and shit.”

“I’ght y’all. Watch your mouths and stop all that blaming. I don’t care who did what, I got a grandbaby on the way, and I don’t need stress in Summer’s life. She already been avoiding us for two months.”

I threw my hands up letting my mama know I wasn’t with the shits; it was Summer. But I wasn’t going to beg her ass to let me know anything else.

“I’m tired of arguing with her ass about childish shit. Just let me do what I need to do for her and the baby.”

“I don’t need anything.”

“Man, shut the fuck up,” I said through gritted teeth. I was over being around her with that stupid talking.

“You shut up. What, you mad because somebody else wants to play daddy.”

“Summer that’s a low blow.”

“Ma, don’t tell her ass shit. She can let that weak ass nigga play daddy if she wants to. They’ll both end up floating in the Savannah River.” I mugged her ass before getting up from the table.

“Where you going?”

“Away from her. She brings bad shit out of me mama. Excuse my language.”

“Y’all need to work this out.”

“Maybe another day. Right now, I need to go.”

I kissed my mama on the cheek and headed out the door.

I sat in the rental car with Lj smoking as we watched the gambling house from afar.

Our target was inside the house gambling, but I didn’t want to run up in there and kill him.

From the text I received, I had a few new people in there.

I had patience like a saint so I could sit here until the sun came up.

“Law, let me be the one to pull the trigger,” Lj said, passing the blunt back to me.

“Lj, I don’t know if I feel safe letting you do that. You still in therapy and shit.”

“That muthafucka tried to kill me. I’mma pull that trigger.”

“I’ght. I’m not going to argue with you bruh. I’ll be right there though to pick up your light weight.”

“I talk to sis yesterday. Her stomach ain’t showing but she look fat in the face.”

“Fuck her.”

“Oh, you fucking a new bitch and now it’s fuck Summer?” He laughed. “You ain’t fooling me. I know as soon as she starting getting big and you go to the doctor she gon’ be your girl again. Y’all are made for each other and everybody knows that.”

I listened to him as my phone went off in my pocket. I pulled out to see if it was something going on in the house.

“Your new bitch?”

“Hell nah. It’s Summer ass. I should ignore her ass like she been doing me for the past two damn months.”

“Yea, Pinkie got you acting crazy. You need to leave her ass alone, too, if you know you going to get back with Summer. We both know Summer will fight a bitch quick.”

“I’m not on Pinkie ass like that. We fuck, and that’s it. We don’t talk on the phone or none of that shit. She understands her position and that’s rare.”

“As your family, by the time this shit over with, you’re going to hurt one of them. I hear what you saying about Pinkie and all but I’m sure when Summer starts confronting her it will get ugly.”

“When that times comes, I’ll handle it. I’m not with Summer and I ain’t with Pinkie. Damn, let a nigga get his dick sucked with no strings attached.”

“Don’t say I didn’t tell your ass.”

I read the text from Summer asking me to come to her place, but I didn’t respond.

Being around her right now would only throw me off.

I still loved her but I needed a moment and she did too.

All I wanted to do was make sure she carried my child the whole pregnancy and she was healthy and if us not being together was going to make that happen, I was down.

“There he go!” Lj caught my attention.

“He staggering so his ass either drunk or high as hell. Let’s follow to see if we can catch him slipping.”

He didn’t even pay attention as he rode right past us.

Starting the car, I followed behind him as he drove to where I assumed was home.

We had to get him before he got home. Lj and I couldn’t take the chance of a witness seeing us so I waited until we got a stretch where there was no traffic and I sped up to cut him off.

He tapped the driver side door slightly.

Lj was out the car before I could get in park and shut the lights off.

We needed a clean shot so we could get the fuck out of there.

Without me pulling my gun out, Lj walked up to the driver side and emptied his clip.

Out of the both of us, Lj was the savage so I was surprised but the nigga only had one hand.

“Let’s go nigga,” he walked back to the passenger side and got in.
