Chapter 5

chapter five

After one spiked hot chocolate and two hottie toddies, I was feeling really good. My mind was blank for a change – no heartbreak, no doubt, and for damn sure, no fear. I needed this day more than I knew.

“Look at you about to fall in those boots, come on, get on my back. We’re going to walk back to the cabin.” Donavan bent down so I could climb on. I let my intrusive thoughts win, and my gloved clad hand felt his butt; he had on sweatpants that had him sitting up just right.

He got up so quick, yoking me up, I barely had time to really feel him before he snatched me up.

His head tilted slightly to the left, and my giggles were uncontrollable. Donavan never got mad at me, so it was funny as hell to see his face turned up.

“Stop playing with me, Ivory, the fuck you think this is. Let’s go so we can get your drunk ass to bed.” The walk back to the cabin was filled with singing my heartache anthem.

“The One I Gave My Heart To” by Aaliyah, the crowd at the winter village hung on to my every note. Each inflection and run felt like the deepest form of therapy. I hadn’t sung my heart out in years, and Donavan picked the right circumstance for me to do so.

Aaliyah was onto something with her line of questions, because how could the one that once made me happy turn around and be the biggest mistake I ever made. I didn’t want to recount all the years we’ve spent together as a mistake, but what else was I supposed to do?

Acacia was supposed to be my endgame, she told me so. But all I was left with were questions and a sky-high therapy bill.

Donavan didn’t complain about my tears falling down his tattooed neck. He just squeezed me tighter, alcohol made me even more emotional. By the time we walked through the cabin doors, I was hiccupping and dry heaving.

“Poison Ivy, baby, please take a deep breath, you’re breaking my heart right now.

Come on, I got the perfect remedy for you tonight.

Go take a shower and wash your face, the snot is starting to drip down your chin.

” His woodsy smell brought back so many moments throughout our lives.

It calmed my anxiety, because in spite of everything I have been through, Dj never switched up on me.

Climbing down off his back, I grabbed a tissue from the box on the end table. I was tired of crying, but I had to release it.

“Haha, you’re so funny, Donny Boy, I should wipe it on you.” He took off running and I chased his ass through the surprisingly big cabin. It was way too much space for just us two, but who was I to complain?

“Ivory, you better stop, you’re so childish.” Donavan’s voice sounded far away, and he turned off the lights so it was hard to navigate in the dark.

I wasn’t going to really wipe my snot on him, but it felt good to continue to chase the high of having fun with my best friend. Being with him felt like an addiction, I’d never trade this for anything.

“Nope, stop hiding and face me like a real man.” My socks gave me the ick, I stepped in a puddle from the melted ice, making them soggy and gross.

Dj was quiet, he was too big to be this quiet. I had the feeling of being watched when I crept into one of the bedrooms. The light was still on, but I didn’t see him.

“Where the hell are you?” I whispered, slowly walking to the walk-in closet.

Once I determined he wasn’t there, I turned to leave when a hand pulled me back.

“Ahh!” My screech could be heard over Donavan’s laughter, I stumbled backwards and tripped over something. He grabbed my shirt and caught me before I fell over.

“Since I caught you, you know what’s next.” Whenever we would run around like children, the victim would be subjected to being tickled to death.

Donavan knew I hated that feeling, and the evil glint in his eyes intensified. I tried to push him and run. The bed was my only route since he was blocking the door. I jumped on the bed and tried to roll across it like a super spy, but his hand grabbed my ankle.

“You can’t run from this, Ivory.” Uncontrollable screams fell from my lips when he tickled behind my kneecap.

Kicking did nothing to stop this torture, “Dj, please stoppp!”

My pleas fell on deaf ears. His hands roamed all over my legs, thighs, and lower back. My heart was racing and I couldn’t catch my breath.

Another feeling overpowered me, lust. My nipples strained against my sweatshirt, and the pulsing sensation between the apex of my thighs felt too good. Donavan flipped me over, wearing the biggest grin on his beautiful face.

Did I just call him beautiful? What the fuck…

“Do you give up?” His smooth tenor bellowed. I noticed the bulge laying against his thigh. I’d never paid attention to the big muscle before. But, now my eyes couldn’t stray away.

“Never.” I mused, still locked in a staring contest with his dick.

Donavan climbed on top of me and pinned my arms above my head. His stocky frame hovered over me, and instead of being disgusted because he was a man with a dick – I was intrigued enough to stay put.

I looked into his eyes to see him watching me with an unreadable expression. He had one eyebrow raised, the same look he gave me earlier at the village.

“If I didn’t know any better, Ivy, I’d say you were staring at my dick. But it’s a good thing I do know better, right?” His voice sent the right signal to my pheromones; my nipples grew harder, and I almost moaned at the sensation.

My sweatshirt was thick enough to bring me some warmth, but maybe not so thick to cover them from revealing my secret.

“I-I wasn’t, you had a piece of lint on your pants. Why would I be staring at that thing?” That thing Ivory, really?

Donavan nodded his head, to accept my lame excuse.

“Right, so why are your nipples about to break through your sweater? If I didn’t know any better, I’d also mention that I can smell your sweet pussy.

Is she dripping for me? That can’t be true, right?

” Ever so gently, he released one of my hands and slowly trailed one hand down the curve of my face.

His touch felt good, this was the version of my best friend that I never met before.

He has told me all the horror stories of the women that couldn’t seem to take a hint after their one night with him.

Donavan would complain that didn’t understand what possessed some of them to go to the lengths they did to get another night with him.

What he failed to mention was the part he played in it all. This man must have some type of sorcery going on, my own body – that never felt even the slightest tingle for the male species – was on fire for him.

Donavan traced the outline of my nose, circled around my high cheekbones, and stopped right above my pouty lips.

What was he going to do to me? What did I want him to do?

His eyes zeroed in on the rise and fall of my chest. I tried to pull myself together but it was too damn hard. I could feel the heat of his gaze burning through my clothes everywhere his eyes landed.

“You never answered me, Poison Ivy. I do know better, right?” He was still slightly hovering over me, and I kind of wanted to know what it would feel like to have him put all of his weight on me.

Would it make the storm raging inside of me worse or could it calm down my racing heart?

“Right,” I mumbled, flashing him my most incredulous expression.

“Right.” He mused, then gave my hips a quick squeeze and then he left me alone for the first time since we arrived.

I needed to get the hell away from him, it was clear that I was confusing everything.

One Week Later

“I don’t know, Donny, this sounds like your bestie might want the D. Isn’t that what you girls call it, Peaches?” It was usually my little brother coming to me for advice, but the tables have turned.

It was a few days after our cabin getaway and I was still replaying every encounter with Ivory in my head.

She stared at me like she just saw me for the first time at the village.

The way her eyes wouldn’t stay off my dick had me fucked up.

I’d been around enough women, brought them to pleasure time and time again, to be certain of when one is aroused.

Ivory looked like she wanted to pull my dick out my pants and inspect it. From the strain of her nipples, she might have wanted to do more than just look at it.

It took everything in me to get the hell out of that room with her, or I would have tried to see just how far she would go.

“Graycen, please be serious for one minute; Donavan looks really confused. Did you talk to her about it, how was her energy around you on the last night there?” Camille invited me over when we got back.

Camille, my younger brother’s fiancée, was the best thing that ever happened to him. She was the best sister-in-love, and I’m happy that our little scheme of him finding a fake girlfriend actually worked out.

“I don’t know, Cam, we didn’t talk much about it. We just skated around it and acted like our normal selves. The energy was awkward for a while until I cracked a few jokes. Maybe I’m seeing things, hoping this will somehow change things between us.” I let my head drop to the back of the couch.

Graycen just moved him and Camille into a nice high-rise apartment. I knew he couldn’t stay in his old neighborhood for too long.

He got up and started pacing, “If we used one of those romance books to figure out my situation, why can’t they help you? I know you read a book like this before, what did they do?” I knew I kept him around for a reason.

I jumped up, bypassing them to go grab my kindle, “Gray, sometimes you use your brain for the greater good and I love you for that, bro.” Dodging his fist, I scrolled through my recent reads.

“Here Comes The Sun” by Bella Jay, was the first one I found that was close to my situation.

In the book world, we would be the best friends to lovers trope.

The male main character in the book got his best friend to admit her feelings for him.

Their story was similar to ours, but he got his girl at the end.

“What do you mean a book helped you for your situation, baby?” Cami looked from Gray to me, waiting for one of us to speak.

“Donny basically got us together, it was his idea for me to get a fake girlfriend, hence how we met. He mentioned it happened in one of those books. Are you going to meet us tonight? We need to celebrate our engagement without the rest of the family. I know we had a party, but Peaches wants to go out and shake some ass.” That last statement was directed at me.

“Please, you just mad that I teased you about being boring. We barely go out, so yes, you will be taking me to shake some ass.” Cami pushed my knucklehead brother off of her.

Camille and Graycen had been engaged for two years, but they were just now having an engagement party. It was held at The Social, a popular restaurant and night club that turned out to be the best thing to ever happen to Slatesville.

“Yeah, I’ll be there, maybe it’d be good to let some steam off.” They left quickly after that.
