Chapter 8
chapter eight

I snuggled closer to the warmth on my back, ignoring my ringing phone for a few more minutes of slumber.
My covers never felt this comfortable before, but when said covers started moving, I got scared.
“Don’t tell me last night wasn’t as memorable as I expected. If I knew that’s how you were gonna wake up, I would have recorded that shit for you.” A husky voice, his voice, said into my neck.
A smile crept on my face as soon as the last night played as a slideshow in my head.
Donavan used his mouth many, many times on me.
He was obsessed with being the MBE – my best eater – and he was a very close second.
Of course, second place wasn’t good enough for him.
His face stayed planted in between my legs until I passed out. It was the best torture.
“Answer your phone, Ivory,” he placed a kiss against my shoulder and slid out of the bed.
Instantly, my chest hurt, where was he going? I didn’t want to turn into a five-stage clinger, so I picked up the phone when it rang for the third time.
“Hello?”
“So, you are alive? It has only been three days since I talked to my sister. Thank God for Donny, I would have thought something happened to you. I’ll give you an hour to get your life before you get to my house.
We need some sister-sister time, see you soon, bye!
” Iris, my one and only sister, declared before hanging up before I could get another word in.
I took a deep breath, closing my eyes briefly to relish in the twilight zone of the last twenty four hours.
“Poison Ivy, I can’t hear you, baby. You were just so confident a few minutes ago.” Donny had me flipped over with my ass hovering over his face.
Somehow, our competitive spirits challenged each other into a battle of the sexes. His huge python was staring me right in the eye, dripping slightly with the evidence of his arousal..
His taste was different, salty with a hint of sweetness. I knew he took good care of himself because he was always lecturing me around my fruit intake.
My smart mouth got me into some shit I did not want to take back, there was no way I’d admit this, but my soul quivered every time I thought about–.
“Ivory, are you okay?” His velvety voice knocked me out of my daydream.
Opening my eyes to see him looking very concerned, I knew he was thinking the worst. Donavan was there when I had my first seizure in my freshmen year of college.
It was right after our English class, the professor had been picking on me all day and all of the stress of my father not speaking to me, along with balancing being on campus caught up to me.
I spaced out and woke up in the hospital with my hand clutched in his.
The doctor diagnosed me with grand mal seizures, I wasn’t conscious of the seizure and couldn’t immediately remember anything before it.
It was the first of my many seizures, no one could tell me why or where the cause of my epilepsy came from, but it was my life now.
Stress was a trigger for me, hence why I have been staying here with him.
I haven’t had one in three years and honestly, the thought of getting my license revoked again was the main reason why I couldn’t afford to be stressed out.
I sat up with my face on fire. Here he thought something was seriously wrong, and my mind wouldn’t stop replaying our night together. I had a dream we went all the way last night and…
Donavan came over to my side of the bed, cuffing my chin, analyzing me. I didn’t say anything as I let him do his assessment. He had to see for himself that I was fine, there were signs to look out for in case of seizure.
“I called your name three times, Ivy, go get dressed, and meet me downstairs for breakfast before you head out.” He kissed my forehead and turned to walk away but I grabbed his shirt before he could get too far.
Were we going to gloss over last night? What would I even say, though?
“Are you okay?” His face was unreadable until his familiar smile eased all my anxiety. The same one he graced me with the first time we met. It was always filled with so many promises, and somehow, able to communicate more than his words could.
“Everything is fine, Ivory, we’ll talk about last night later. Iris told me not to hold you up this morning so I’m following orders. You know how scary she can be.” He winked at me before squeezing my hand that still held onto his shirt.
I nodded, feeling better about everything. No matter what would happen, we’d be okay.
There are two different types of people in this world, people who prepare for Christmas in August and those who go Christmas shopping in December. I happened to fall into the second category while my only sister, Iris, got me an air fryer for Christmas during the summer time blow out sale.
She can’t hold water, so she told me in the car on the way back.
Iris and I always had a great relationship, I was the annoying younger sister who wanted to do everything she did.
She threatened to kill me when I stole her favorite shirts…good times.
We were sitting in her greenhouse, watering plants and drinking wine. Coming out here always gave me Juanita from Baby Boy vibes.
Iris took one look at my neck, Donavan left the biggest hickey there and in the moment, it felt too good to stop him. Somehow, I let him mark me up, my brown skin was littered with bite marks and his fingerprints.
“Wow, you finally gave in to that man?” We were on our second bottle of wine from L&L Winery, it was a Caribbean owned wine company.
Placing my glass down, I raised an eyebrow at her.
“Finally, as in you thought I would have done this before? How, I don’t even like men and never have.” Iris squinted her eyes at me, like Velma whenever she lost her glasses.
“Is Donavan a man?”
“I guess,” she smirked.
“Judging by the way you keep wincing whenever you talk, that man has a third leg and your jaw is quite familiar with all of his manliness!”
My mouth flew open and I couldn’t stop the laughter from bubbling up if I tried to.
“You bitch…” I hollered, trying to calm my racing heart.
“I mean, I been giving head since college, so I’ve seen lots of those. But I bet you was in for a world of surprise once he pulled it out, right? What are you going to do?” Now, that was the magical question.
I couldn’t blame last night on the amount of alcohol I consumed, something in me wanted my best friend in a way that I never had.
“You know I have been through a lot lately, maybe I just need to get it out of my system. My mind won’t rest because there’s so much confusion in my head right now.
I don’t know what to think and I need to talk to see where his head is.
” That was my truth, everything in my life has been fucked up since the wedding.
Iris reached for my hand, “Ivory it is ok to admit that you are discovering more about yourself, including your sexuality. Feelings are complex and you don’t have to have all the answers right now.
I know how your brain works, just go with the flow for now.
You never know what could happen on the other side of it all.
” Iris was right, I used to be so confident in who I was. But now, everything was confusing.
“I hear you, Iris, but enough about me. Let’s talk about you, how was your date with Blue 32?” We came up with the wildest names for the guys she met on those dating sites.
“Girl, he’s not getting a second date after he asked me what I brought to the table… baby I am the table, the chairs, and the throw rug at the bottom!” She stood up, beating her chest like King Kong.
“I know that’s right, talk your shit, sister sister!”
After hours of sipping wine and catching up, I did not make it back to Donavan’s house until after seven o’clock.
He was asleep on the couch, and I took the time to observe him.
His bushy eyebrows were scrunched up slightly, my hands itching to smooth them out.
The only unattractive thing about him was his open mouth sleeping, which resulted in some drool on the throw pillow.
How did he still look the same, but everything about our dynamic had changed overnight?
My body was heating up, just thinking about everything he did to me and we didn’t even have sex. It was mind boggling, I’m sure it was just my nasty little brain thinking this way. Iris had gotten into my head about fulfilling the sexual fantasies and maybe it would clear up some of my confusion.
I didn’t know how he would respond to my outlandish idea, but it was worth a try.
Quickly, I made my way upstairs to shower and get into some comfy clothes.
My feet carried me to the sound of Donavan whipping up something in the kitchen, of course, he would wake up and the first thing he would search for would be food.
“What time did you get home?” Home, did he think of his home as mine, too?
He was searing a steak without a shirt on, why wasn’t he worried about burning his skin?
The planes of his back shifted with every move he made. Every dip was prominent and mouth-watering, when had a back ever looked so damned sexy? I wanted to follow every tattoo with the tip of my tongue, everything about Donavan turned me on lately. It was torturous because how did we even get here?
“Ivory, here, taste this and tell me what you think?” He held a fork full of food in front of my mouth and I opened up wide, giving me flashes of last night. He stretched my mouth so much, it was slightly painful to move my jaw a certain way.
The flavors of the garlic and butter danced on my tastebuds, I closed my eyes, savoring the love behind this meal. I couldn’t cook worth shit, but Dj put his entire heart into everything he did.
“Shit, let me taste.” His mouth covered mine and invaded my entire mouth, stealing the remnants of the food.
Donavan sucked my tongue so hard, all I could taste was him.
I fell into the kiss, surrendering to everything he offered up.
The smell of his signature woodsy and citrus cologne made my body hum.
I wrapped my arms around him, tracing my fingernails across his back. He tensed under my touch, and before I knew it, I felt the coolness of the kitchen island beneath me.
Donavan finally peeled his lips from mine, breathing harshly with his face all frowned up.
“What’s wrong?” Breathlessly, I questioned him.
His head shook from side to side, “You’re poisonous, Ivory, what kind of kiss was that?”
“You kissed me first!” I accused him, still out of breath.
“Ivory, you kissed me like you loved me. So again, what was that?” I searched his eyes for the laughter after that wild statement.
I did love him, but not in that way. I tried to push him away, but his arms caged me in.
Crossing my arms became my protective stance, maybe it was a bad idea to go up this mountain with him.
It was selfish of me to do this to him. He clearly had feelings for me and I was only thinking of myself and not how this whole thing would affect him.
“I was just following you, Dj, is there something you want to tell me?” Did I want to know if he loved me? What would my response even be?
Donavan took a few steps away from me and returned to the stove to turn the rest of the burners down. I hopped off the counter and pulled out a few dishes for us to eat dinner.
Once he plated our food, we said grace and ate his delicious food in silence, with just the hum of the rain fall from outside.
“You wouldn’t be ready for that answer, Ivy, did you have fun with your sister? What did you guys do, talk about me?” The cocky bastard said, this was the heartthrob version of him.
The one the women went crazy over, it was like a barrier went up over him after that kiss. A kiss that shook me to the core but I wouldn’t dare press him for answers to a question that I, indeed, did not want the answer to.
Placing my fork down, I unlocked my phone and opened it to the notes app. I came up with a bucket list of things from the wet dreams I had been tormented with since I moved in with him. Each dream was different but the cast members never changed.
Donavan took the phone from my outstretched hand and read a few of them out loud.
“Have sex outside, oral in the car... Ivory, explain to me what this whole thing is about.” He knew what it was about, he was being stubborn, forcing me to express what I wanted to gloss over.
“It’s not a big deal, just a few things I want to experience with you.” I blurted out before shoving some more mashed potatoes in my mouth.
He got up from his seat across from me and sat in the seat right next to me with his eyes fixated on my every move.
“Nah, come on now, Ivory. I know you, princess, and I can tell when you are leaving some details out. Give me the real, especially if you want me to entertain the thought of anything you want on here.”
My heart sank at the thought of him saying no. Even if I would’ve admitted this to anyone else, I wouldn’t dare do anything like this with anyone else, he’s the only one I’d trust in this way.
