Dionysus

After hanging up with Chevy, I walked back over to the table with the guys. I ended up catching the tail end of what Scooter was yapping about, and the shit sounded dumb.

“So, what you’re saying is you want to storm up to Lexington Heights with no fucking plan, and you think Hype Records is going to give you a deal? Twin, you’re out of your fucking mind,” I said to Scooter.

We came to Hoodoos trying to figure out our summer plans.

Stutter Man, Scooter, and Morgan had decided to drive up here for the day since I still had some moving to do.

Morgan went off with the girls while Stutter Man, Scooter, Beans, Streets, and I chilled.

I knew I had promised Beans I would act as Scooter’s manager, but this nigga was moving like he was already a star.

He bit down on his chicken wing as he glanced at me. “Shit, why not?”

I shook my head as I pointed to Beans. “This nigga. You ain’t do shit. You ain’t rap nowhere to get yourself out there. You ain’t made a hit demo, and clearly you still on jail nigga time because look how you eating that fucking wing.”

They all started laughing except Scooter. “Keep talking shit. I know what I’m capable of doing.”

“I never said you didn’t. However, what I think you should do is lay off the spicy shit and spice yo ass in Beans studio, build up some tracks, then let’s throw you, like, a little summer concert in the Cove. Why go to them when they can come to you?” I explained.

Honestly, I needed more things to do with myself than storm up to a record label.

I needed an activity that would keep my mind occupied while Mars was away.

After talking to Chev, the only thing that played in the back of my mind was my girl’s safety.

I knew Chevy’s paranoia was beginning to rub off on me, and I needed to get my mind off it.

That was when an idea struck me. I slammed my hands on the table, causing all four of them niggas to jump. Streets’s head snapped my way.

“Chill, gang!” he snapped.

“Let’s do a bike weekend, and then you can perform. It’ll bring all the girls out, which are going to be your main audience, and some of the YNs.”

I could see Beans nodding. “I could see it. Sounds good to me.”

“Besides, I think the Zoo needs a Zoo-Ra after all the shit we’ve been through. I’ll talk to my brother and the guys, but I’m telling you, Scooter, this is where it’s at.”

Peanut nodded. “I-I thi-thi-thi-think that wo-wo-would be—” He closed his eyes to focus, “—fire.”

I pointed to him. “Even Stutter Man knows a good idea when he hears one.”

Scooter moved his face from his food as he sucked his teeth. “Fine.”

Now that everyone was in agreement, I needed to convince Zeus and the guys of the idea. My fear was that Chevy would decline because I knew his mind was on Clark, and until he was somewhere buried, the possibility of Chevy doing anything else was slim to fucking none.

We changed the subject and started shooting the shit until I saw Mars mom come into Hoodoos. Her eyes scanned the space, and I knew she was looking for Samara. I stood from the table and made my way toward her. When her eyes landed on me, they became fixed.

“Dionysus,” she spoke softly.

“She’s not here. Why are you looking for her?” I asked.

She bowed before her eyes rose to me again. “Because she’s my child, or did you forget?”

I laughed. “Lady, I didn’t forget shit. It’s you who forgot, not just about your child, but clearly the world. You're in a cult. Do you know what that means? You’re brainwashed. You follow a fake prophet who’s going to lead you straight to hell.”

She smiled as if what I said was a joke. “For he will see who conquers all. You have a great day,” she muttered as she turned to leave.

I didn’t trust her at all, and now I kind of wanted Mars to leave so I could figure this out.

The only person I knew who could help me was Z.

Samara’s mother was stalking us like we were prey.

Unfortunately, she stumbled upon the wrong animals, and if she knew what was best, she’d back the fuck off.
