Chapter 60

Your dreams come true with the Ten of Cups. You are in a relationship built on love and respect.

DANNY

Ican’t remember ever feeling happier than I felt the moment Cal said “yes.”

I had hired a symphony quartet to play while we dined. The evening was perfect. The food was delicious. We ate and drank and laughed with our friends. When we danced, Cal’s knee still wasn’t quite right so we just held each other and swayed to the music, standing in one place.

I never knew I could feel so much love for someone.

The inscription in Cal’s ring was something she had said to me a few weeks ago.

We spent the weeks after Cal’s release from the hospital talking about our childhoods, our past relationships, our likes, dislikes, goals, and dreams. For instance, I didn’t know that Cal will stab anyone who crunches ice in her presence. Or, when she finds a feather, she believes it is an angelic visitation from loved ones. She found out rather quickly that I make disgusting noises when I clear my throat in the morning. She said she could learn to live with it.

We talked about the miracle of our meeting and falling in love.

“I wish I had been your first love.” I mused. “I wish we had met sooner.”

“We would not be together now if we had known each other sooner. We are two old souls, steeped in shadows, destined to find each other later in life. It is only our pasts that made it possible. We can love each other today because of how the past shaped us.

She continued, “You’re not my first love. You are my best and last. You were so worth waiting for.”

We said goodnight to our guests shortly before midnight. We didn’t have far to go. I rented an Airbnb near the restaurant in Vinings. There was a heated pool off the master bedroom.

Cal emerged from the master bathroom naked. “My knee is still hurting. Take off your clothes and let’s go for a swim in the heated pool.”

The warm water was an aphrodisiac, not that we needed one. God, I love this woman.
