For a few days after the wedding, Danny and I sequestered ourselves in a little private cocoon. We turned off our phones except for an hour in the evening when we checked messages. We took short day trips to the mountains, scouring little antique stores and crystal shops for treasures.
Laying by the pool in the warm autumn sun, we dreamed about our future together.
I tried to work on my new book, but I didn’t have any interest in the topic. I am no longer single. The creative juices weren’t flowing and at one point I closed my laptop in frustration and cursed.
“What would be a better topic for your next book?” We were sipping margaritas by the pool. We were on our second pitcher. “Let me put on my thinking cap.”
Danny reached over and picked up my bathing suit top I had taken off to sunbathe. He put it on top of his head, one cup covering his head like an aviator’s cap.
“How about, ‘My Husband Is The Most Amazing Man In The World and All Other Men Suck’.”
I gave him the side-eye.
He took the bathing suit off his head. God, I love this man.
