Chapter 37
Destiny's pov
I was going through the mails for few hours now. Liam is sleeping peacefully on my lap. I just didn't expect things to turn out like this. But I am happy about it. I can't keep my feelings hidden for so long.
The things we did in this morning were beyond my thoughts.
And I was the one who initiated the kiss.
Yet he was the one who confessed his feelings first. I don't know I made the correct decision by letting him in.
The way he kissed me shows he is not leaving me anytime soon.
And it seems like I won't be leaving him. I want to give this a try.
My thoughts were cut off from my mobile started ringing. I quickly picked up not looking at the caller ID, not wanting to disturb Liam.
"Hello"
"Hey Des, can we just meet up today" Ava said in a really low voice. Like she would cry any second now.
"Ava. What happened?" I asked.
"Nothing, I just want to meet up" she asked.
"Okay when do you want to meet"
"After I finish my work, we can meet at your favorite cafe" she said.
"Okay, when I reach there I will give you a call" I said, she replied and cut the call. She seemed upset.
I looked at the time, I have an hour to meet up with her.
I continued my work. I still have few things to complete but I have to meet Ava. And I can't leave Liam alone. I was about to call Lily, when she came into Liam's room.
"You came, I was about to call you. I want to go now, I have to meet up with a friend. And about your work, I will complete it by today night and send it to you" I asked.
"It's okay, send it to me by night. You can go now. I have been giving you trouble about Liam" she said as she sat on the end of the bed.
"Oh no. It's okay. I would help you anytime" I smiled at her.
"Thank you dear. And tomorrow meet me at the building early. I won't allow Liam to come to the work tomorrow. He needs rest" she said.
"Okay then, I will go now" I said and placed the laptop on the night stand.
I lifted Liam head slowly and placed it on the pillow.
I wanted to give him a kiss on the cheek but Liam's mom is here.
So I didn't do it. I picked up my bag and my yesterday clothes which I found in the hamper and went to the door.
With one last glance at him, I went out. Lily followed me to the front door.
"Thank you for taking care of him. I didn't know what would I have done without you" she said.
When I reached the front door, I turned towards her. I hugged her, letting her know I am there.
"It's okay. If you need anything let me know" I pulled back.
"I will drop you back. Wait here let me get my keys" she said turning back. I grabbed her arm.
"No, I can go on my own. It's not even dark yet. I will get the cab" I assured her.
"OK dear. Be safe" she said patted my cheek. I nodded and left Liam's house.
I have reached the cafe where Ava wanted to meet. I sat there looked outside waiting for her. I ordered a cake.
The door opened, Ava can in. She looked really sad. She came and sat across me.
"What happened" I asked slowly.
She started a silent sob. I got up and sat next to her and hugged her. She hugged back, I started comforting her rubbing her back. After few minutes she calmed down. I asked.
"Are you okay now" she nodded "So you wanted to talk about it now" she nodded her head again.
"Yesterday night my youngest brother Harry, started vomiting.
We thought it was a stomach bug but we got scared when he started coughing blood.
We took him to the hospital, we came to know that he has leukemia.
I didn't know what to do" I rubbed her back "Then when I came back to work today like normally as my mom was looking after Harry" she took a deep breath and continued "Before I called you, I went to meet Nathan, but I didn't expect to see him kissing other girl.
When he saw me, he pushed her and ran after me.
I hid from him and called you. I really liked him" saying that she started crying again. I consoled her.
"He is an asshole, you should not cry for him" I said.
"I didn't mean to cry. I think from the time I heard my brother had leukemia, I have been holding up and when I saw him. It came back along with that" I patted her back. I gave her few more minutes to calm down. She is really a strong girl but seeing her like this made me sad.
"Thank you Sky" she said and took my cake and started eating it. I narrowed my eyes at her, but she is busy eating it. I shook my head.
"No problem" I sat there thinking and she continuing eating my cake.
"Ava" I called her, she looked up at me.
"I can talk about your brother with my dad" her eyes went wide and was about to speak I stopped her by grabbing her hands "Please Ava, I can help you.
My family can help you. You have been there for me when I needed you.
You have a lot on your plate now. I can ask my dad to take care of it.
Please" I said making puppy eyes at her.
She looked everywhere but me. I still kept the face and move around where ever she moved her face.
"Pretty please" I said again. She released a breath and said "Who can resist that eyes. Okay, but I will help as much I can". I let out a small squeak and hugged her. She hugged me back.
"It's going to be okay. Your brother will be okay" I said to her and pulled away from the hug. She smiled at me nodding her head. We talked for few more minutes and thought to have some dinner in the restaurant.
As we were having dinner, I heard Ava name calling from behind me. I looked at Ava, she looked shocked seeing behind me. I turned around and saw a guy making his way to us. Ava was about to run out he grabbed her hand from moving. I stood up too.
"Ava please, just let me explain" I heard him.
"Let me go. I don't want to talk to you" Ava said not looking at him, trying to break free from him. I was about say something, but his reply made both of us shock.
"I am gay"
I stood there blinking my eyes not knowing who is he or what he just said. Ava looked at him in complete shock.
"I know I am not making sense, but please listen to me" he asked. Ava nodded her head and sat down. The guy sat at the empty chair next to her. I sat down too. The guy looked up at me and was confused. Ava saw this.
"Nathan, she is Destiny my best friend and Des, he is Nathan he... " she was struggling to say something. Now I came to know who Nathan is.
"It's okay, let's just keep it as friends" he said. Ava nodded her head.
"Well, I will just go. You two need privacy" I said standing up.
"No, you can stay. You already know what happened" she said. But I can see pleading in her eyes. I nodded.
Nathan keeps fiddling with his fingers. Finally he cleared his throat.
"This is more embarrassing than I thought.
As I said I'm gay. Just today I found out about it" he said lowering his head but he continued "I didn't know when this started.
But I used to checkout boys more than girls.
And I was not ready to accept it. And I am still in college, this is the last year".
"But that day you said you're 25" Ava interrupted.
"There is a reason for that" he released a breath "I have been bullied in the college because I am a nerd.
The guys throw some punches here and there to get notes from me.
And girls never look my way because I am a nerd.
When I started feeling like this, I have to find out whether I was a gay.
So I thought to date outside the college by lying that I am older" he said and looked at Ava.
"I am so sorry Ava, I used you. When that day you spoke to me.
You were the first person who saw me as me and talked to me very politely" hearing this Ava smiled a little "I thought, can a person be this gentle to me.
I wanted you to be my friend and I wanted to know if I was gay.
I think I made a mistake asking you for the dates.
There was a guilt in me, so I didn't made any advances on you.
I just liked to keep it that way. And when you saw me with that girl .
.... I " he started to hesitate. Ava put her hand on his hand and gave a assuring smile to continue.
"My intentions were not to hurt you. That girl was actually a random girl.
I met her at the market and asked for a simple date.
She agreed, and the date was so horrible.
I liked it with you" he said looking at her.
We laughed. He continued "And when she was about to leave, I kissed her.
But I didn't feel anything. I didn't even see her in any sexual way I see in guys.
So I came to know I am gay. And I am so sorry Ava, I led you on.
It was so wrong on me to do this" he said looking guilty.
"It's okay, there is no need to apologize. If you had said this earlier, we would have thought of something. But it's okay. I really liked you, but it died the moment you said you were in college" she said playfully. Nathan narrowed his eyes at her. Then both laughed.
"But I really liked you, it's okay. I would love to be your friend. And I will be here for you" she said. He smiled at her.
"Well I don't mind being your friend. I get bored sometimes only talking to her. I have a new friend!" I said happily clapping my hands. Ava glared at me, but I ignored it. Nathan was happy hearing it.
"Thank you so much for understanding Ava" he said to Ava "And you too Destiny........ Destiny right" I nodded my head.
"So you are still up for the trip to aquarium on weekend" Ava asked. He nodded his head.
"Nathan" I called him, he looked at me "Have you done anything about the bullying" he released a breath.
"I tried many times. I even complained to the professors, but there was no proof to prove it.
So I am just avoiding it by giving them the notes.
I can't stand up for them. They are very strong.
One against 6-8 members is not possible.
So I am waiting for this year to complete, to be free" he said. I and Ava smiled sadly at him.
We talked having dinner. Eventually we exchanged numbers. He was fun having him with us. Ava was in a better mood after this. Still I have to call my dad about Ava's brother.
Today was the craziest day. I kissed the guy I liked for years. He confessed his feelings. He asked me on a date. I got a new friend.
Uffff what a day!
