Chapter 48
I don’t know how I knew which Pack of wolves we were facing. It had just come to me, the name Red Moon.
Devran had already stepped out of the crowd, bloody and with a mouth dripping crimson.
He climbed onto the roof beside me and never shifted into his human form. He looked down at the large crowd with a proud head and red flickering eyes.
His wolf was in total control right now. He looked terrifying actually but I was focused.
When he stood in wolf form he was still as tall as me. It’s otherworldly to witness for myself.
Devran released the blood curdling howl that I’m sure translated into something the wolves understood. I was amazed to see so many wolves lower themselves and bow down.
I couldn’t even see as far as the people went. It’s like looking into a crowd at a stadium and only being able to fully see the faces of the first dozen or so rows.
They could hear us though and some of them lowered down to their bent knees to show compliance while others stood in protest.
The animals of the forest had slowly retreated and with a flick of my hand I sent the birds away. That’s when Devran shifted into human form and waved someone below my cottage to throw up a discarded pair of gym shorts.
There was clothes everywhere because our people had to shift quickly with not a lot of time to undress.
Devran stood beside me at 6′2 or 6′3 and his muscled taut body was exposed and smeared with the blood of his enemies. He had a gash on his ribs but he paid no attention to it. His voice was guttural and I could tell his wolf was still very much present.
“RED MOON PACK, submit to me or be slaughtered” Devran warned them. “I don’t know why you came to us with war but I won’t let you back down now and retreat to wherever you came from. Now you either belong to me or you die” he told them in the sexiest deep voice.
His chest was proud and forward. His face was fierce and warningful. I looked delicate beside him, but I wasn’t. I have the power to defend myself now.
I summoned animals from all over the forest today and I didn’t even know I could do that.
I could see the innocents of the Red Moon pack were afraid now that they knew they couldn’t leave, but would have to submit or die. Would Devran kill women and children? I had no idea.
“SHOW ME YOUR ALPHA” Devran demanded.
A large male wolf whose fur was entirely white stepped forward. Because of his light coat you could see the blood dripping from his paws and smearing his face and body. It’s a startling contrast.
The man shifted into human form and stared down our Alpha.
“We’ve come here to take your land as ours has been destroyed by the fires. We have no food and our source of water has been contaminated. Our homes are gone” he told us.
“And instead of asking for help you dared come fight my people?” Devran showed no sympathy for them. The Alpha stood proud and showed no remorse for his decision. This man was tall and firm like Devran but he was older. Maybe in his 30′s.
What was interesting about him was that his hair was entirely white even with a youthful face. His nose was flat and slightly crooked like he's broken it many times before. He must be a troublemaker who fights often.
“Submit to me,” Devran demanded. The man’s chest swelled with pride and he did not bend down. “I SAID SUBMIT” Devran bellowed out in a snarl.
“Are you challenging me?” Devran asked when still the man did not comply. It made me quickly look up at him in fear that he would go and fight again. I didn’t want him getting hurt.
“You and your people submit to me” the white haired Alpha challenged him like I feared. Growls broke out around him in protest.
“Then we fight” Devran jumped down off the roof and landed like a total badass on all fours.
I thought they would shift into wolves but they started the fight in their human form. My heart rocketed with nerves. I couldn’t help here. An Alpha has to win on their own but it’s a fight to the death. I’ve been told this before.
People started coming out of their houses. Or at least those who hadn’t already. And now there was a large space cleared for these Alpha’s to fight in. I stayed on the roof. I’m not going to place myself on ground level with a bunch of bloody forgein wolves.
When the two men began to fight I knew this was gonna be bad. They were both very strong and I cringed as Devran landed a punch to the man’s face and a cracking sound rang out.
But then the white wolf punched his ribs and a cracking sound was heard again. They growled and grabbed at each other. Wailing on one another before separating and circling each other again.
Their body language was stiff and alert. They watched each other, both ready to lunge. Devran got the man to the ground by tackling him in a low sweeping motion and his back smacked into the earth below.
Devran’s large hands grasped the throat of the man and began to squeeze. The man wheezed out and with his hands he began trying to hit Devran in the face and body, trying to get him to release him.
That’s when the man shifted into wolf form because he knew he was about to lose. Devran quickly shifted too.
To see the contrast of an all black to an all white wolf would be beautiful under different circumstances.
They began rolling around on the ground trying to pin one another so they’d have the power over the other. Claws scratched deeply into flesh and wails of pain ripped through their throats. It was hard to tell who because it was all happening so fast.
I was helplessly watching Devran, praying he would make it through this. He can not die.
When one loud cry ripped through the air my gut clenched. Blood spilled so quickly in a pool of red and I stretched my body trying to see who was dead but I couldn’t tell and my knees went weak.
People began to back away and what laid on the ground was the white wolf whose neck had been ripped out. Devran’s black wolf stood over its body with the chunk of flesh still gripped in his jaws.
And when he dropped it to the ground his tuft clumped with slick wet fur. The Red Moon pack howled out in a woeful sound as they acknowledged their Alpha was dead.
Relief flooded through me and yet I felt the sadness heavy in the air around us. Too many lives were lost today.
I could see Devran was injured and probably tired. He fought off an army and then he fought hard against another strong Alpha wolf.
In his weakened state three wolves from the Red Moon pack shared their idea of attacking him while he was down. They shoved through the crowd and as I saw this unfolding I shouted out Devran’s name to warn him.
“DEVRAN” I cried out, and his beautiful blue eyes shifted towards me instead of the danger.
In a state of panic I threw my hand forward and suddenly there were yelps and the three wolves were trapped in a ring of fire. They stood back to back facing the large ring of flames which flickered too high up for even a Werewolf to jump.
Devran rose to his feet and even injured he made it back up onto the roof. When he shifted once again to his human form he was cut up and bleeding, but he wouldn’t let me look at him because he couldn’t show weakness.
He stood proud and again addressed the crowd even this bloody and dirt covered. The three wolves who were trapped kept snapping their jaws up at me in anger for being stuck there in the heat.
“RED MOON PACK, your Alpha is dead. Submit to me and the Crescent Pack” Devran said again.
All the wolves bowed to him except a few, like the three in the ring of fire. When I released the flames they three ran off into the woods and nobody even bothered chasing them. Or maybe they knew they’d be killed at the border so they let them run.
Devran stood tall and brave. He’s never looked more like an Alpha than he does right now. Dominance radiated from him in strong waves.
He looked down at the hundreds of people, ours and the Red Moon pack’s, as they all bowed to him. Submitting to Devran completely.
When I gasped in a breath Devran turned to me quickly and held me up. “What?!” He asked, seeing I was affected by something unseen.
“Devran, do I have your permission to talk freely of the Moon Goddesses' will” I quickly asked because I felt something coming through me. He held onto me to be sure I didn’t collapse and told me I could.
I felt my body heat up as it felt like I was literally engulfed in light. My eyes changed to iris’ of glowing gold.
“People of the Red Moon pack, people of the Crescent pack, you will join together as one. For the displaced wolves we will host you in our school to serve as a shelter for the time being.
"I will bless the seeds of the crops and you will plant them to the East. On the seventh day your crops will be fully grown and no one shall go hungry.
"Healthy men of the pack you will join me to the scorched earth where I will heal your fallen burned logs for you to make houses North of the crops I grow for you. You will be of this pack and you will share as they share--”
The voice was mine that spoke but the words were not from me.
She was talking through me and it was incredibly powerful. My flesh was flush and my insides felt so hot.
“Whose newborn child is dying?” I asked, as she asked. Heads turned and a weeping woman with a small swaddled child raised her hand.
“You will join me in the sacred circle. Your son must be healed, he has a role to play here some day. The Moon Goddess says she will grant your prayer. Do you understand what that means?” I asked her.
The woman said yes. I felt sadness seep through me. The prayer of the woman was a sad one. I somehow knew that now.
“It must be done tonight. Tomorrow will be too late” I told the crowd. After that my eyes returned to their normal color and I went weak for a moment.
Devran held me in his arms and scooped me up.
“You have to rest, Mira. You did too much. I don’t want you unconscious for three days again” he warned me. I knew that wasn’t possible though.
The Moon Goddess warned me of what sacrifices I needed to make in order to assure that this pack gets the blessings that it needs. I can’t tell Devran that or he’ll never let me do what I have to do.
“Tomorrow will be too late,” I reminded him.
“We have to go to the sacred circle after sundown when the moon is rising. Tell them” I asked. Still holding me in his arms he addressed our people.
“Collect the bodies of our fallen men and women. Bring them to the burial grounds for proper burial. Tonight those who wish to see the blessings of the Moon Goddess, which she will be bestowing, you can meet at the Sacred circle grounds after sundown.”
With that Devran jumped down and brought me into my cottage.
“You can go. I know you have a lot to do” I told him. But then we caught eyes and we both looked at each other bloody, cut up, weak from magic. We rushed each other and hugged one another closely.
“I was so worried you’d be killed” I huffed a breath of actual relief now.
“I’m stronger than you think. I was afraid for you. I had no way of knowing where you were when the battle started. I just had to start fighting. Too many good men died today under my rule...” he looked so conflicted and hurt.
“It’s not your fault” I cupped his face to make his eyes look at me.
“Mira, you saved a lot of lives by stopping that fight. You amaze me. My pack and I...we owe you a lot” he pulled me to him again. It was kind of gross because he was bloody and dirty but I was just so happy he was alive I didn’t care.
“I can’t go out there this bloody and disheveled. When all the men are gathered I'll go count who is alive and who’s dead. Then we have to report to the community...just let me be here with you for a second before I have to go do that” he sounded suddenly exhausted.
I pulled away from him and looked at his cut up body with deep claw marks. He will heal faster than a human but not instantly.
“Come under my shower, I’ll heal you” I told him, because I suddenly knew I could. “No, Mira, you need to rest” he scolded me.
“Devran, the Moon Goddess has shown me everything that needs to get done and she will give me the strength to do it, so please, go” I waved him into my bathroom.
I don’t know why the Moon Goddess made this process so sensual. It’s like a sick joke that she keeps throwing us together this way, but we had to strip naked and wash the blood and dirt away first.
When I was shed of my own clothes his eyes turned dark and dangerous in a whole different way. He was fighting for control.
I stood him under my running shower and started to wash him with my own hands. The air between us was thick and I could feel his heated stare as he watched me wash him and heal his wounds.
Then his hands started to caress my body like he was washing me, but I wasn’t dirty. He just wanted to touch me.
I think my strength was coming from the water as my source of power. That’s why it had to be here. I realized having these elements nearby I can access power from them.
Like the lighter I had with me outside to strike that wolf down with fire.
When Devran couldn’t take it anymore he picked me up until my legs went around his waist. He pinned my back to the cold tile wall as he ravished my mouth with a passionate kiss that took my breath away.
We were skin to skin completely and entirely naked and together.
“Mira, I want you so fucking bad” he groaned out when his hands came down my slick thighs and grabbed two fistfuls of my fleshy ass.
I grabbed his face and started kissing him again while my tongue searched for his.
He reached behind him to shut off the water and stepped outside the shower carrying our wet naked body’s out of the bathroom, through the living room, and into my bedroom.
I wanted to touch every inch of him. My hands roamed over his muscled shoulders and with my legs curled around his waist my core was pressed to his flexed abs.
I kissed his neck and down his chest as he placed me on the bed and began to do the same to me. We didn’t even towel off so the sheets turned wet beneath us.
Devran’s mouth went over my nipple. When he sucked on my breast and twisted the nipple of the other my back arched and I sighed with need.
I rubbed down his arms as that’s all I could reach but I wanted to touch more of him. Seeing him completely naked is like seeing the statue of a God.
His dick was fully erect and pressed into my thigh when he laid himself over me. I wrapped my legs around him again and he groaned at the feeling.
