Chapter Forty-One #2

Kayden smirked at him. “I almost forgot I was in a vomit den, that’s how good it was.”

Jace tossed an arm around Kayden and we walked to the parking lot feeling like a real family already.

For weeks after the Six Flags trip, we fell into a comfortable rhythm.

I brought Kaylee to school each morning, spent my days working with Jace, and Kayden took over the role of picking Kaylee up from school, giving them a little one-on-one time each day until I got home.

We all spent dinner together most nights, we took turns putting Kaylee to bed and once she was asleep we watched movies, played board games, fooled around quietly, and genuinely enjoyed each other’s company.

Kayden and I squeezed in weekly dates where Jace continued to “sneak in” and read to Kaylee after we left.

When we returned home, Jace was usually asleep on the couch, eager to curl up in bed with us both.

Jace and Kayden slept over a few nights a week and snuck out in the morning before Kaylee woke up, but most often, they went back to one of their places for the night and slept together, always sending me a goodnight picture before I fell asleep without them.

Sloane and Lavi continued to take Kaylee on Friday nights, giving us one night where we could all go out together, plus Saturday mornings to have breakfast before whatever family date activity Jace had come up with for us.

Saturdays and Sundays were full of family dates, allowing us to spend as much time as possible together as a family.

We’d spent one of our family dates at the Boston Museum of Science which Kayden had been thrilled about, showing Kaylee every exhibit and explaining them to her.

Jace and I pretended not to be bored but Kayden’s slight eye roll when he caught me pulling Jace away from the crowd made it clear he knew the truth, and he just smirked at us when I dragged Jace out to the parking garage for a quickie in his car.

They did the same to me and Kaylee when we spent a weekend in New York and an entire afternoon at the American Girl doll store.

And Kayden and I developed a similar habit whenever Jace chose more adventurous dates like bumper cars.

Kayden survived his first seasonal stomach bug, which came shortly before Thanksgiving.

Kaylee and I had gotten it first, since she’d clearly brought it home from school.

Jace had told Kayden to stay away while he stayed at my apartment to take care of us.

Unlike in years past when he’d seemed immune, this time, Jace was just as sick as us within twenty-four hours of entering the apartment.

By then, Kaylee had started to feel better and I tried to tell Kayden not to worry about us, but he’d insisted on being there, taking a key role in parenting Kaylee while Jace and I alternated our time between lying in bed together and sharing the toilet in my ensuite bathroom.

Kayden made soup and left it outside the door for us with water at regular intervals, and my heart swelled watching him push his own limits in a situation that caused him so much stress.

Once Jace and I finally emerged from the bedroom, Kayden had earned himself a lot of massages and de-stressing from us both, causing him to jokingly declare that being around that much vomit was almost worth it. I doubted he’d think that if we got another stomach bug before winter was over.

For Thanksgiving, Jace went to his family’s, and I took Kaylee with me to my mom and Carl’s. Kayden opted to visit his father, which went exactly as poorly as he’d expected, but he still came back looking defeated and I suspected he was close to giving up on that relationship all together.

I’d texted back and forth with them both in our group chat all day, but being away from them had sucked and I wasn’t sure I could take any other holidays or big events without us being openly together.

Thanksgiving had gotten a whole lot better when they showed up at my apartment that evening with two pizzas and we’d spent the night cuddled on the couch with Kaylee watching Christmas movies.

Six weeks of being in a relationship and we were only becoming stronger and happier. I couldn’t imagine any of us being happy any other way. Hard as it might be for some people to accept, we belonged together.

My mother’s wedding was rapidly approaching, and while I’d originally planned to bring Jace as my date, the idea of attending without Kayden felt wrong. I woke up thinking about it on a Saturday in early December and rolled toward Kayden.

“Where’s Jace?” I asked looking around his bedroom. Kayden was leaning back against the headboard and at my question, his lips parted, and a soft moan escaped his mouth.

I narrowed my eyes at him and then looked down at the sheet bobbing up and down above Kayden’s groin.

I gave Kayden a kiss, letting my tongue stroke over his several times before pulling back. “Is his mouth always around your dick?” Whenever I left them alone, this was the most likely scenario I’d find them engaged in when I returned.

“I wish,” Kayden said breathlessly as he tipped his head back in pleasure. “He is fucking brilliant down there.”

“I’m not sure if I should ask him for lessons or just let this be,” I joked. I slipped my hand under the sheet and rested it on Jace’s head, letting my hand rise and fall with his motions.

Kayden moaned again. “You’ve got your own tricks, beautiful. I like that it’s different.”

“Okay,” I said.

“Fuck,” he moaned as he squeezed his eyes shut. “I’m coming, Jace.”

I covered Kayden’s mouth with mine and swallowed his moans as his body tensed with his climax. A minute later Jace rose from the blankets.
