Chapter 36 - Regina
I t’s so incredibly cold.
My body is shaking, my teeth chattering from the lack of heat. A drip, drip, drip sounds in the distance through the ringing in my ears and pounding in my head. The darkness is a living, breathing entity.
The last thing I remember is a voice whispering in my ear as my mouth was being covered, smothering any sounds I might have made.
Wherever they have brought me is not conducive for living. Both the floor and the walls are rough, hard, cold, and wet. Outside of the consistent dripping, the only other sounds are the beating of my heart and my breathing.
Crawling around on my hands and knees, since I don’t know how high the ceiling might be, my hands wave around finding nothing around me but hard rock. Leaning against the wall and wrapping my arms around me to try and keep warm, my hands brush against something hard. Frantically feeling around my body, I almost cry in relief, finding my phone.
If I am being watched somehow, the brightness of the screen is going to give me away. It is a risk I am going to have to take.
Quickly unlocking the screen, I pull up the last person called. It just happens to be Em. Just before the call goes to voicemail, she answers in a shaky voice.
“Regina…” she says hopefully.
“Em…help,” that is all I get out before my phone is ripped away. The sound of it breaking, as if smashed against the rocks, breaks my heart.
My head whips to the side as a sharp slap to the face startles me.
“Stupid girl,” is all they say before the world goes dark again.
