Chapter 63
MONFUA
Tonight, served up a dose of straight chaos.
Foe getting into it with his family, to me beating Kirk’s ass to Mali getting into it with Kareem in the back like no one saw them was a night that would go down in the Zoo book of memories.
The dim off white light shone on Kirk’s unconscious, dangling body in the Zoo.
Chevy sat on the table with one foot on the chair as I stood in front of Kirk, who was now waking up.
While he was in the middle of catching these hands in the club, Chevy stopped me.
We dragged his ass out back, where Zaria was waiting for us in the Caprice.
I wanted to tell Sukalati what was happening, but Chevy insisted I handle this first. So, I told Peanut to get Mali the fuck out of there and take her my keys so she could go home.
The club was so out of control that the security inside had to fire gunshots to get people to scatter.
The groaning coming from Kirk was the only sound in the Zoo.
Chevy held a gun clip in his hand as he flicked a single bullet out.
He had one in his hand, raising it right above his eye, before throwing it at Kirk. “Wake yo bitch ass up!” he barked.
Kirk’s head rolled in a full circle. “Wha-where am I?”
“Hell, if you don’t pray,” I gritted as I began to circle him.
Clap! Clap!
Chevy started. “Yeah! That’s right, Monfua, get in motion.”
I was mad as fuck. I was mad because I knew I had to handle this nigga.
I was mad because the part of me that was enjoying this was slowly emerging.
This was the part of me I had tried to suppress, the part of me I wanted to change.
The part of me that felt guilty to step into a career to be a hero to a city in which I’m part of the reason for some of its demise.
I cracked my fist, and before I knew it, I jabbed Kirk in his ribs. “Why are you following her!” I yelled.
Chevy came off the table as he growled. “Is she worth it?”
Was Sukalati worth it? I thought. The image of her crying because she wanted to be loved entered my brain. “Yes,” I gritted as my breathing picked up.
“Is she loyal to the fucking Zoo?” Chevy then asked. “Is she worth killing over?” he added.
He kept going, fueling me. I was becoming a wild animal by the second.
A wolf, lurking in the forest until I saw my prey.
The wolf whose dark eyes rested on what he was ready to devour because of his thirst for blood, to kill, to show his pack that he was about that life.
The flashes of her popped in and out of my head like a whack-a-mole.
Kirk’s head slowly lifted. “She only married you to make me jealous. Lakia—”
Jab. Jab. Jab.
“Maybe she did. But guess what nigga. She’s been bed rocked. She’s a fucking Layoni. She is my fucking wife!” I roared.
Jab. Jab. Jab.
I snatched the gun from the table, put the clip in, and cocked it back. My mouth curled, my nose flared. My head flew back, my hair swung, “Ou, ou, ouuuu!” I howled.
“Grrr. Grrr.” Chevy growled.
“Clap! Clap!
Chevy started, “One, two, my nigga coming for you!” he taunted Kirk as he circled him. “Three, four, you should’ve locked your door!”
Clap!
I joined him. “Five, six, I came to shake up shit!”
Jab!
“Seven, eight, nigga you’re dying today!” Chevy hissed!
I stood in front of Kirk as he eyed me. “Nine, ten, I’m Lakia’s husband!” I shouted.
Kirk’s eyes bounced between us. “What’s going on. What type of shit is this? You can’t just go around threatening to kill people.”
Jab.
“You a broke nigga? You need someone to take care of you? Is that what you want with her? You want her because she’s young?”
“I-I-I.”
“You-you-you what!” Chevy shouted. “Shit, better him than her brother. You would have been dead. Fuck you here for!”
“I need money!” He shouted. “She’s the reason I lost my job, and she was kicked out of school.”
I turned to Chevy and laughed. “So, you were going to use her. Swoon her into giving you money, then dog her out. Got it.”
I turned to Chevy one last time. “Is she worth it?” Chevy stopped circling him and asked me.
Without looking at Kirk, I nodded at Chevy. “Yes!”
Bloaw! Bloaw! Bloaw! Bloaw!
My head eased toward Kirk’s dead body, swinging back and forth.
“No regrets,” Chevy said as he took the gun from my hand.
“I doubt Foe knows she’s been kicked out of school, but she needs to tell him.
Just know she’s going to need the support and comfort because he’s going to nut the fuck up.
You caught a body for her, so go home to your wife and make that shit work,” he finished.
I wanted to be honest with Lakia about Kirk.
She needed to know what type of husband she has.
It was something that I needed to see if she could handle.
I didn’t know how much Foe had exposed her to, but I wasn’t for beating around the bush.
If she didn’t know before, she was about to find out now.
This is what happens when a nigga fucks around and finds out.
When I stepped outside the Zoo, I felt empowered. I felt vicious. I felt like a protector, but I knew this was just the beginning. Chevy had my bike brought to the Zoo. I hopped on and headed home to my baby.
