Chapter 65
Iwatched as Harvey slept. The night we had was one I wasn’t expecting.
I wasn’t expecting me to act the way I did.
I just couldn’t imagine sharing Harvey with anyone, especially a bitch who seemed jealous.
I’ve dealt with plenty of women like Flex, but that was no longer what I wanted.
I sat on the couch smoking on my blunt while I continued to watch her.
I thought about giving her kids, marrying her, and all. I wanted to give Harvey whatever type of life she had in that head of hers. My phone vibrated, which pulled my eyes away from my sleeping beauty for a second. It was my pops, so I answered. “Sup, pops.”
“I called to check on you after last night.”
I shrugged like he could see me. “Shit, it is what it is. Denna is going to be Denna,” I said.
He chuckled. He knew it was true. “Yeah, one of the reasons I couldn’t do it. I want to get up with you before I leave, you know, father-son time if that’s cool with you.”
“You trying to race again?”
“You don’t want this smoke. Look, I want to hang out. I want to do something I never got a chance to do, and that’s spend some time with my son. If you want to bring your girlfriend, I’m cool with that.”
That’s when I glanced at Harvey as she started to wake up. I nodded. “Yeah, that’s cool. Hit me with the locations. I will be there,” I drifted off.
“Good. I’m happy. Love you, son,” he said to me.
I didn’t respond, but hung up. “Good morning,” Harvey said, stretching her arms out wide.
“Morning, beautiful.”
Wrinkles formed in her forehead. “Why are you looking at me like a fucking creep?”
I sat back on the couch. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry I didn’t have your back. I never want to make you feel uncomfortable like that again. Harvey, I know you feel like you’re the only one who deals with our decision, but so do I,” I explained.
I didn’t want to hesitate. I didn’t want to prolong the conversation because every minute without us on good terms broke me.
She got up from the floor to sit next to me.
“I know you get the same ridicule I do. I know you love your family too,” she paused.
“I was in a relationship before where a man chose his family over me,” she paused again.
“Over me and a baby I thought I was ready to have. That shit broke me. I had been trying to fill the void of having a family so much that I was willing to give someone a baby who didn’t deserve it, who would have probably left me and that child out to dry.
When everything began happening with your sister, it brought up those memories. ”
I wanted to respond to the situation as a whole, but the thought of some nigga putting a baby in Harvey was my only focus. “What happened to the baby?” I asked.
“I got an abortion. I didn’t want any kids.”
“What about now?”
She dropped her head, bringing it up slowly. “Honestly, I don’t want kids. I don’t think that’s for me. Can that change in the future, sure, but in this stage of my life, I don’t. What about you?”
I pulled on the blunt before releasing the smoke from my lungs. “I can’t get over the fact of you letting a nigga put a baby in you. Does Chev know?”
She laughed. “No, he doesn’t, so that’s between me and you.
However, I have my faults, including past mistakes and poor decisions.
All of it was a learning experience, but I’m here with you.
The man I love, so my past shouldn’t matter unless it affects you.
Now, answer my question. Do you want kids? ”
I had never thought about it before. Shit, I raised my siblings' kids, was the last thing on my mind, but if that’s what she wanted, I would do it. I glanced at Harvey. “No, no I don’t. What about marriage?”
She smiled. “I just want to be happy. Myles, I don’t care if we’re married or have kids. As long as we're together, facing the world that sees us in a bad light for what we did, I don’t give two orange fucks.”
I laughed before leaning over toward her face. “Fuck them. Tell’em to come holla at me. Kiss me,” I muttered.
Her soft palms gripped my face as she kissed me. “I love you.”
“A nigga loves you way more.”
