Chapter 41
Chapter Forty-One
Harlow
“What’s going on?” Kingsley asks. Corbin’s brows furrow and he nods toward the tunnel.
“Leo escaped. He called off the hidden Sat phone. Go let him in.”
“He escaped?” Slater says. My stomach sinks, knowing exactly what Leo is capable of. “Oh, thank god,” Slater murmurs with a spring in his step as he rushes off into the tunnels.
Corbin turns back to Kingsley. “Once he gets here, we need to proceed. Go get the others,” he tells him.
“Why? Has something happened?” Kingsley asks.
“Yes. Thane is on his way. Leo came to warn us. Grab the first aid kit. He said he had to jump from their car. I’m not sure what condition he’ll be in.” Kingsley nods his head before darting off. Corbin actually looks concerned that Thane is near, and he should be.
Thane petrifies me and I’m his mate. I would hate to be one of the enemies on his hit list. My heart races when Corbin stalks toward me. I shuffle back before I hit one of the bookshelves.
“Either come willingly, love, or I will command you,” Corbin purrs, reaching for me. I shake my head, and Talon growls at him.
“Just give up, Corbin. You’re screwed. Leave her be,” Talon growls, but Corbin smirks, bending down to grip my arms. Yet the moment he does, he chokes, sputters, and staggers back.
I press against the bookcase when he stands upright, a brown handle protruding from his stomach.
The same brown handle I saw protruding from Talon.
I blink as his shirt turns red, stained with his blood.
Corbin growls, pulling the blade out. I feel what he does before I see it.
Blood sprays across my face, and Bree roars as Corbin slashes Talon’s throat.
I scream, moving to grip his neck, but Corbin plunges the knife into his chest, making me jump.
“No!” I cry when Corbin rips the knife out before stabbing him again in a frenzy. Blood sprays everywhere, drenching and coating me. Talon’s eyes bulge from his head as his hand knocks mine. I grip it, staring into his eyes. I can hardly see his face; my vision is too blurred through my tears.
I flinch each time Corbin plunges the knife into him.
Talon chokes and I jump, my hands shaking.
I close my eyes when I see the light fade from Talon’s.
Bree attacks Corbin, but I am too stunned to care, completely frozen.
I let Talon’s hand go, tucking my knees into my chest, wishing I could unsee what I just witnessed.
Talon’s blood is everywhere. It coats Corbin’s arms, chest, and face, pooling on the floor in a huge puddle.
Blood spatter covers me, and I hug my knees, trying to calm myself down.
Corbin turns and glares at Bree, fed up with trying to restrain her.
She’s attacking him, punching on his back and shoulders, but it has no effect on him.
She might as well be a small child for all the reaction she gets from him.
One punch from Corbin though, and she is down like a sack of potatoes.
“Well, well. What have we got here?” Leo asks as he enters the library.
Corbin spins, and a huge grin splits his face at seeing Leo, who is completely naked and covered in blood. Corbin embraces Leo before kissing him.
Tears fall down my cheeks as Talon’s blood coats my hands and legs while I sit frozen in shock.
He killed him. Talon died trying to save me.
He’s dead. How am I going to tell Leon that his cousin died for me?
I jerk my hands away as his blood covers my fingers.
A whimper escapes me, grabbing everyone’s attention.
“How did you escape?” Corbin questions, turning to Leo and ignoring me.
“They left the door unlocked. They didn’t realize I’m crazy enough to jump from the car. Fucking hurt. Damn near skinned me alive, too,” Leo tells him, looking down at his body. Whatever injuries he had are now healed. Corbin cocks his head to the side.
“Where?” Corbin questions.
“On one of the bends at the bottom of the mountain. I shifted and ran the rest of the way here. I came across a few rogues, too,” Leo shrugs.
“They didn’t chase you? Try to catch you?” Corbin presses. His aura slips out, testing Leo.
“Yes. Thane, Rhen, and Raidon gave chase but quickly gave up as soon as I made it into the forest. Corbin, we need to get out of here. The authorities are everywhere. They have the whole place surrounded. They’re even sending drones in to watch for us.
We can’t stay here. We need to take her and run,” Leo informs him. Tears prick my eyes at his betrayal.
Corbin exhales but shakes his head. “No. We need to get this over with. Grab her,” he tells Leo. Leo glances at me, a smile moving onto his face, and his eyes flicker.
“My pleasure,” Leo purrs, stalking toward me. I shake my head and slap his hands away.
“Don’t touch me!” I snap at him.
“Oh, baby, don’t be like that. We’re about to rock your fucking world,” he taunts, before he grips my arms. I thrash, but he presses me against the bookcase.
“Watch it. She bites!” Corbin warns him.
Leo glances at him over his shoulder before looking back at me and gnashing his teeth in my face. “So do I, and I can’t wait to take a bite out of you,” he purrs, pressing his body against mine.
“Bite her in the room. Bite every part of her for all I care. I just want her marked, then you can have your fun with her,” Corbin tells him.
“Den?” Leo asks, and I see Corbin nod his head. Leo’s grip tightens on my arms, and I thrash, kicking and trying to rip out of his grip. He tosses me over his shoulder and smacks my ass before rubbing it with his palm.
“Oh, I can’t wait to fuck this sweet pussy,” Leo chuckles, and I sink my teeth into his back. He groans and slaps my ass again, making me whimper.
“You can have her pussy. She’ll be taking my knot in her ass,” Corbin laughs.
