HAWG
Onyx…
That sweet face and those bright green eyes pooled with desire are the first things I think about as I wake to the Arizona sun spilling in from a crack in the curtain. I squint, glancing over at her side of the bed, only to find it completely empty and my dark-haired angel gone.
A quick glance at my phone shows that it’s not that late, only eight a.m., and after the night we had I would have anticipated sleeping later than this and maybe even going another round.
I get dressed and tug on my boots, intent on finding the woman who’s gone from taking up my dreams to living them out in full play but has disappeared from the bed.
After a quick trip into her adjoining bathroom, not a privilege all the ladies have, I walk downstairs half expecting, or maybe hoping, to find her in the kitchenette getting a cup of coffee or some breakfast because she sure wasn’t interested in food of that kind last night. But she’s nowhere to be found.
Skye is at the small table pushed against the window, nursing a cup of coffee while studying something on her computer rather intently. “You happen to know where Onyx is?”
She looks up, gives me a once over and goes back to her assessment of the screen in front of her like I wasn’t even standing here.
“Hello?”
“I don’t generally talk to assholes.”
The fuck? “You wanna give me a clue what’s going on? And where’s Onyx?”
Skye looks up and this time her eyes flash. “You fucking felt different and then do the same damn thing. Is it any wonder women don’t trust you and your kind?”
It’s too early in the morning for this bullshit.
I haven’t even had a fucking cup of coffee yet.
“Look, you wanna tell me what you’re talking about and quit talking in riddles?
What is it that you think I’ve done other than spend time with Onyx?
She’s an adult last time I checked, and she certainly doesn’t need anyone’s approval for that, right? ”
Her red nails hit the keyboard in front of her click after click without a glance. “You’re done here, Hawg. Leave.”
The fuck is wrong with this chick. I don’t usually worry myself with what people think of me but this, after what I just shared with Onyx bothers the fuck out of me.
I tap Skye on the shoulder to get her to turn her attention back to me because I’m not fucking going away until she explains what she means.
She looks up at me like she’d rather be anyplace but here. “You’re really going to act like you haven’t done a thing wrong, like you aren’t the fucking lowlife ass that you are, with me?” She stands up, her nostrils flaring and eyes blazing. “Get the fuck out.”
I have no fucking idea what she’s talking about, and I’m not interested in starting a fight with a Harlot, the very female MC club we’re supposed to be protecting, but at the same time I’m not about to take this shit. “I’m not going to ask you again. Where is Onyx?”
Skye’s face is a mask of disdain. “She’s probably still upstairs with Shine. You flirt with her, and then go back to your club and make time with one of the fucking bunnies at your club, and have the fucking nerve to stick your diseased rod into Onyx? Get out!”
My head spins trying to keep up to her accusations. “I don’t owe you a fucking explanation but let’s be clear, whatever you think about me and a bunny, it’s not true.”
Skye’s eyebrows arch. “Your word against hers, Hawg. Things travel fast in the bunny world because the little sluts are always far too eager to brag about whose bed they got into.”
Fuck this. I head upstairs to Shine’s room not caring one fuck that they may be having a private conversation, because Onyx is going to hear what I have to say. I knock on the door and there’s no answer. “Onyx?”
Nothing but silence greets me back.
I frown, turn the knob, and to my surprise it opens just fine. But not one person is in that room, not Onyx and not Shine. Motherfucker these women are going to give me a heart attack. I race to Onyx’s room, grab a few things I left, and race downstairs.
Skye looks up as I tap her on the shoulder. “Onyx and Shine are both gone? You’re really going to tell me you don’t know where they fucking went?”
She frowns, completely unfazed by my insinuation or mood.
“No, I was busy getting the numbers for church. Pearl gets crazy if things aren’t completely spelled out.
” She closes the computer and walks out with me side by side, because we’re both looking for two things.
The bikes, and one is here but the other one isn’t.
My jaw locks tight. “Would Onyx take Shine without her bike?”
Skye shakes her head. “What the hell for? No, if they’re going somewhere together, they’d both be on their own rides.”
I get on my phone to my VP. “I need ten riders, I’m heading toward Tucson, I want them on my tail by the time I hit the fucking highway, and they better come fucking loaded, and someone better bring my bat.
” I send a message to Ryker and Capone, letting them know we’re heading their way.
Presidents of the Rivalry, the Larussios’ motorcycle club, they should know we’re riding into their territory and what’s happening right under their noses.
All the better if they want to join forces and help.
Skye’s mouth is partially open. “What’s happening?”
“I don’t have time to explain. I’m pretty sure I know where Onyx went and if I’m right, I need backup.”
“Tell me!” she says. “Pearl’s going to want to know, Hawg. She has that right.”
“I think our girl’s headed over to talk to the VP of the Scorpions, on her own without a fucking one of our crew. Get Pearl and Carver up to speed.” I open up the door to the clubhouse for Skye. “Stay with the ladies, I’m heading out.”
“Stay with the ladies my ass, we’ll be right behind you. The crew left to babysit us better know how to keep up.”
I jump on my bike and kick it into gear. I swear when I find that woman….
I can barely see the onramp of the freeway when the roar of my crew behind me rattles thunder in my ears. You mess with me or someone we protect, and the Royal Bastards will put you in the ground. I just hope that Onyx and Shine haven’t been hurt when we get that pleasure.
Because if what I suspect is true, and the Scorpions are running drugs for the fucking DeRosas of Vegas whether the Larussios gave them a clear and unfiltered message to stop, we’re going to have a full-blown MC and mafia war the likes that this desert has never seen.
I get why the DeRosa family would run under the radar, they have to eat too, but to do that after what happened between the Larussios and the DeRosas in Vegas, they’ve got to have a death wish.
There are other ways to make money for them that doesn’t infringe on the Larussios’ territories or demands.
After the beatdown they got from the Larussios, you’d think they’d run the other way.
The Royal Bastards are going to be right in the fucking middle of it going head-to-head with both the Desert Riders and the Scorpions, because those two groups have become each other’s biggest allies of late and our worst enemies.
Onyx is a hell of a driver. I have no clue how much of a head start she got or if Shine is with her or running alone.
It just makes me accelerate faster. If the cops stop us, we’ll have to just hope it’s someone on the payroll of us or the family.
Then it will get sorted fast, otherwise we’ll be screwed and worst of all delayed.
But I can’t worry about that right now. I accelerate, pushing harder, the dry dirt whipping my bare arms as we ride through the desert that’s baking at a hundred and one.
The tightness in my chest knowing Onyx is heading for trouble without me burns hotter than the actual heat, like indigestion of the worst kind.
And there are two things the Larussios won’t condone.
Trafficking and kidnapping women and the DeRosas stepping into their property.
The Desert Riders and Scorpions have picked the wrong club to mess with because if these women aren’t ferocious enough on their own they have the Larussios, the Rivalry, and The Royal Bastards covering their asses.
But only if one of us gets there in time.
