ONYX

If the bald fuckwad would stop leering at me from the card table, I may be able to work my boot off and get to the knife so far down in it that it’s starting to hurt like a mother, but it’s the only place I didn’t think they’d look.

But it doesn’t look like I’m going to get that chance if he won’t keep his eyes off me. Shine pushes her shoulder against mine. “I’m sorry.”

I keep my voice low, barely above a whisper but baldy knows we’re talking and keeps a vigilant watch. “Tell me what happened with Ness. Why you came with them?”

“They patched Ness over to a Scorpion, but they were going to have him running drugs. He was scared of what the Larussios in Vegas would do to him if they found out. All talk and no balls.

“Ness wanted me to run the drugs for him. I said no and he said they could get to my mother, sister, anytime they wanted. I didn’t have a choice, but one run led to two and more. I told him I wanted out the night he came to the club.”

And he hit her, motherfucker. I exhale a deep breath. “And you came here on your own?”

She swallows. “They picked me up. I didn’t have a choice.

They say that I owe them money for the drugs and they’re going to sell me to make up the difference at some auction.

If I didn’t, they would hurt my family. You should have stayed away, Onyx.

Now they have double the inventory to sell and my family, who knows if they picked them up yet or not? ”

A tear rolls from her eye.

Yeah, selling either of us, that’s not going to happen.

I just need time alone with one of them once I get to my knife.

Then I’ll get the bastard by the throat and use that to get us out of here.

It’s a solid plan, but when rifle shots sound in the distance, the Scorpions come flying into the living room with sawed off shotguns and vengeance on their faces.
