Chapter Fourteen #4
“Do you confirm that yesterday you met with Detective Littlemoon, and Wynter, and then secretly hooked up with her after?”
He nodded.
“When she came in, she asked myself and my assistant not to let on that we knew her. You were on the phone, Detective, at the time. We agreed. When you left, I didn’t get any text from her saying our ‘date’ was off.”
Hart nodded.
“He’s not lying.”
The man continued, and somehow, it kept getting worse for Bishop since she was going to have to tell Wynter’s grieving husband.
Leon wasn’t done.
“I showed up at our normal time in our normal place, and we had sex. She was a little late, since she had to do something in the square. It was a quickie, since she said she had to go check on her daughter, but it was exactly what we both wanted. Wynter knew what she liked, and she was learning to ask for it. She was all over me, and we both got off a few times. In fact, she told me she’d see me next week on Friday for more. ”
They both looked at Hart, and he simply nodded.
This whole thing sucked. Wynter was leading a double life, and no one suspected.
Honor sighed.
Someone had to go there.
“Did you wear a condom, Doctor? Because right now, she’s being autopsied.”
He didn’t lie.
“No.”
Hart confirmed.
The doctor shared more information, and it didn’t make any of them feel any better.
“I never did after she was put on the pill.”
Honor went there.
“Why not? If you’re trying to hide this from her husband, that seems like a no-brainer.”
He shrugged.
“Again, this was about her enjoying sex and finding her own power. Wynter told me repeatedly that she liked the feeling of being wet after sex with me. It made her feel better every time she saw her husband and his lover. Listen, I didn’t…”
Bishop held up her hand.
Why?
That lover was HER husband.
“I am going to give you three seconds to stop rationalizing this for your benefit, or I’m punching you in the face.
Do you hear me, Doctor? Because right now, I’m torn between whipping your ass because you preyed on a patient and trying to find a way to arrest you for having sex with a married woman, knowing she had a family. ”
Honor shrugged as her partner lost it. This wasn’t a normal Bishop response, and she got it.
“I won’t say shit when you beat his ass,” she admitted. “You know, how he didn’t say shit when he knew what he was doing was wrong. I’m in my ‘turn a blind eye’ era.”
As if on cue, Hart closed his eyes.
“Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz,” he said, pretending to be asleep.
Well, that said one thing. They were all on the same page with this.
Because he likely feared for his life, the doctor was to the point.
“It was consensual. She enjoyed herself, and I repeatedly told her she needed to have therapy with her husband. I continued to offer her a way to rectify with him, but she didn’t want that. What she wanted was our Friday dates.”
Hart nodded again.
“Not a lie.”
Honor was curious.
“What was your end goal?” she asked. “Because you risked your career, and she risked her marriage. Was this just a revenge fest for her, and some kinky sex for you?”
He was honest.
“I love her,” he said. “I mean, I loved her,” he said, fixing that now that Wynter was past tense.
Hart nodded.
“Not a lie.”
The doctor continued.
“I was going to suggest she leave him, and I was going to offer her a way to start a new life.”
“With you?” Bishop asked.
He nodded.
Honor was curious.
“And to your best knowledge, do you think she was going to take you up on that offer?”
He didn’t hesitate.
“I knew she was preparing for it. After sex two weeks ago, she said she would get her situation in order and see if she could get out of her marriage. A part of her was worried about her husband’s mental status if she left.
She didn’t hate him. If anything, she hated the man he was cheating with.
She blamed him for preying on her husband. ”
Oh, Jesus Christ.
They both looked over at the other detective. That man was married to Bishop, and Lucian wasn’t a ‘prey on people’ kind of a guy.
As if she was about to lose it, Bishop didn’t want to hear anymore.
“I need some air,” she said, getting up and leaving the two of them with the doctor.
When she was gone, Honor was to the point.
“Were you having sex with anyone else who was your patient?” she asked.
He shook his head.
“No. I told you that I was fully vested in a relationship with Wynter. You asked my end goal, and it was to be with her. I would have married her in a heartbeat. We were soulmates,” he said, tears in his eyes.
Hart hated this more than anything. This was one of those moments where he wished he didn’t have this gift because the man wasn’t lying.
Honor glanced over at him.
“He’s telling us the truth as he believes it.”
The doctor was to the point.
“She said she’d like that. We were just trying to figure out how to make that happen. On Mondays, we talked about her mental health, and on Fridays, we talked about our relationship and love. That’s the truth.”
Hart nodded again.
Well, this was three days past shitty. That was for damn sure. Wynter had planned on leaving Ridge, but she was simply biding her time. That explained why she didn’t want more kids with him.
She likely wanted them with this man.
This was proof you could be around someone a lot and never know the truth about their lives. Neither Honor nor Hart would have assumed she was carrying on an affair with someone in Salem.
This just proved that all dirty deeds came out in the wash.
The man was curious.
“Is she really gone?” he asked. “Did she suffer?” he added, tears in his eyes.
Honor didn’t like this man, but she was walking a fine line. They were already using a walking lie detector.
If that got out…
“Yeah, she’s definitely gone, and her husband is blaming himself. I imagine he’s going to feel fucking fabulous to hear this. As for if she suffered, it was a gunshot to the head. I would say it was lights out pretty fast,” she added.
Since Hart cleared him, and the media would get the details at some point, she didn’t see a problem with telling him.
The man stopped her.
“Then, maybe he shouldn’t have had an affair on his wife with his best friend. That’s where the problem began. While we shouldn’t have carried on an affair behind her husband’s back, he did do this first. Maybe go guilt the boyfriend.”
Oh, thank God Bishop had left the room.
This guy wanted to die.
When Hart got up, it looked like he was going to punch the man in the face.
Only, he reined it in.
“I’m going to check on Bishop before I hurt him.”
With that, he walked out too.
“Way to go, Doctor. Now, give me a list of all of your patients. Because people are continually dying around you, and I need a heads-up on who is next.”
He protested.
“Doctor-patient…”
She smiled ferally.
“I guess we’ll go see the judge because I’m going to pretend my friend Hart wasn’t here and when I tell him you admitted to sleeping with a patient who died…”
He went pale.
In that moment, she hoped he knew his career here was over, and if she had any say about it, anywhere he went to hide from this.
Love or not, he’d preyed on someone, and that might have contributed to her depression.
He backed down.
“I’ll get it for you.”
And Honor waited.
Because while they cleared this man, they still had a problem.
Someone had to tell Ridge.
And that wasn’t going to go over well.
Not.
At.
All.
