Chapter 15, Aria

The first light of dawn was a soft, grey whisper that seeped through the heavy drapes, painting the room in muted shades of pearl and shadow.

Aria woke slowly, her consciousness rising from a deep, dreamless sleep like a diver surfacing from a tranquil ocean.

She was warm, impossibly so, and there was a solid weight around her waist, an arm that held her securely against a body that was a furnace of heat.

Thorne. The memories of the previous night crashed over her with the force of a tidal wave.

The nightmare, the terrifying shift, the feel of his rough fur under her hands, the taste of his tongue on her face.

And then, the shift back, the raw, primal intensity in his eyes, the way he had pounced on her, the desperate, almost violent claiming that had left them both trembling and breathless.

A deep, burning blush spread across her cheeks, and she was grateful for the dim light that surely hid her embarrassment.

She, who had fought him at every turn, who had resisted his touch with every fiber of her being, had not only accepted his wolf but had teased him.

And then, she had met his primal fury with a fire of her own.

It was a confusing, terrifying, and utterly thrilling realization.

As if her thoughts had summoned him, the arm around her waist tightened. Thorne stirred behind her, his chest expanding with a deep, sleepy sigh. He was awake.

Aria’s heart began to beat a little faster, a nervous flutter against her ribs.

She turned in his arms, her movements slow and tentative, until she was facing him.

His eyes were still heavy with sleep, but they were focused on her, the grey soft and hazy in the morning light.

He was beautiful, his face relaxed and free of the harsh lines of command and worry.

As she shifted, her leg brushed against his, and she felt it.

The hard, insistent heat of his arousal pressing against her thigh.

In the past, that evidence of his desire would have sent a jolt of pure, unadulterated fear through her.

It was the symbol of his power over her, the promise of a taking she couldn’t refuse.

But now, as she lay in the circle of his arms, the memory of his desperation from the night before still fresh in her mind, she felt something else.

A slow, curling heat bloomed low in her belly, a liquid warmth that spread through her veins.

It was desire. Her own, unbidden and surprising.

She watched his face, saw the flicker of awareness in his eyes as he registered her gaze. He expected her to pull away, to tense up, to retreat into the familiar shell of her fear. She could see it in the slight tightening of his jaw.

Instead, Aria took a breath, a silent prayer to whatever gods were listening, and acted on pure instinct. She reached down, her hand moving slowly, deliberately, through the warm space between them. Her fingers brushed against the hard, velvety skin of his shaft.

Thorne’s breath hitched, his body going rigid.

He stared at her, his eyes wide with shock, a low groan rumbling in his chest.

It was the first time she had ever initiated their intimacy, the first time she had touched him with a purpose that wasn’t born of resistance.

It was a surrender, a gift, and he understood it immediately.

A soft growl escaped his lips, and he rolled, pinning her beneath him. But this time, it wasn’t a move of dominance. It was a move of reverence. He propped himself up on his elbows, his grey eyes burning into hers, and then he began to worship her.

His lips were everywhere, but they weren’t the demanding, bruising kisses she was used to.

They were soft, reverent, exploring her skin as if he were discovering it for the first time.

He kissed her eyelids, her nose, the curve of her jaw.

He moved down, his tongue tracing the delicate line of her collarbone, his teeth nipping gently at her pulse point.

His hands were no less worshipful. They roamed her body, not with the rough urgency of possession, but with the slow, deliberate touch of a connoisseur.

He cupped her breasts, his thumbs circling her nipples until they pebbled into tight, aching points.

He lowered his head, taking one into his mouth, his tongue swirling, his lips sucking gently, sending bolts of pure pleasure straight to her core.

He moved lower, his lips tracing a path down her stomach, his tongue dipping into her navel. He settled between her legs, his shoulders pushing her thighs apart. He looked up at her, his eyes dark and intense, and then he lowered his head, his mouth finding the most sensitive part of her.

Aria cried out, her back arching off the bed.

He was relentless, his tongue a masterful instrument of pleasure, licking and sucking, driving her to the edge of sanity with a patience that was both exquisite and torturous.

He brought her to the brink, her body tensing, her breath catching in her throat, only to pull back, leaving her trembling and wanting.

“Thorne,” she whimpered, her hands fisting in the sheets.

He smiled against her, a low, triumphant chuckle, and then he did it again, and again, until she was a writhing, sobbing mess of need.

Finally, when she thought she could take no more, he took her over the edge.

Her orgasm crashed over her, a tidal wave of sensation that left her gasping, her body convulsing with the force of it.

Before she could come down from the high, he moved up her body, positioning himself at her entrance.

He didn’t thrust into her. He just held himself there, the head of his cock nudging against her, a silent question.

Aria looked up at him, her eyes blurry with tears of pleasure.

She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him closer, a silent invitation.

He entered her slowly, inch by inch, his gaze locked on hers.

He filled her completely, and the feeling was so right, so perfect, that it brought tears to her eyes.

He began to move, his strokes slow and deep, his eyes never leaving hers.

He was making love to her, not just taking her, and the difference was earth-shattering.

Then, he did something that surprised her. He rolled onto his back, taking her with him, so that she was straddling his hips, his shaft still buried deep inside her. His hands rested on her waist, his thumbs stroking her skin.

“Ride me,” he commanded, his voice a low, husky whisper.

Aria froze, a flicker of self-consciousness warring with the desire that still pulsed through her.

She was on display, in control, and it was both terrifying and exhilarating.

She looked down at him, at the raw hunger in his eyes, and slowly, hesitantly, began to move.

She rose up, then sank back down, experimentally at first, then with more confidence.

The angle was different, deeper, and she could feel every inch of him inside her.

She set her own pace, her movements becoming more fluid, more confident.

She reveled in the power, in the feel of his hands on her hips, guiding her, in the way his eyes devoured her.

She was no longer just a vessel for his pleasure; she was an active participant, a queen on her throne.

Thorne’s hands moved up her back, pulling her down for a deep, possessive kiss.

He began to thrust up into her, meeting her movements, his pace quickening.

The friction, the intensity, the look in his eyes—it was all too much.

She felt the coil of tension tightening in her belly again, and this time, she knew he was right there with her.

“Come with me, Aria,” he growled against her lips. She did. Her orgasm ripped through her, a powerful, all-consuming wave that left her shaking and breathless. She felt him tense beneath her, his body shuddering as he found his own release, his warmth flooding her.

She collapsed onto his chest, her body limp and sated, her head pillowed on his shoulder.

He held her close, his arms wrapped tightly around her, his heart hammering against her ear.

He stroked her back, his touch slow and soothing, as their breathing slowly returned to normal.

They lay there in the quiet morning light, tangled in the sheets and in each other, and Aria felt a sense of peace that had nothing to do with surrender and everything to do with belonging.
