Chapter 39
Rei Kurosaki
I was still in bed. The sheets were tangled around my legs, and the purple flower he had tucked behind my ear earlier now rested on the nightstand beside me.
My body still ached in that good, used way.
My thighs were sore and my hole was tender from how deep he had fucked me in the woods.
I was half-asleep. He had really exhausted me yesterday. But then the door opened.
Dimitri stepped inside.
Something was wrong.
He did not look at me the way he usually did. He looked like he was about to explode. I could not describe it. I sat up, the sheet slipping down to my waist.
“Are you okay?” I asked.
He paused by the door, then gave me a small, edgy little smile. He crossed the room and sat on the edge of the bed. His whole posture was wrong.
“I have to go for a bit,” he said. “Ilya will stay with you, okay?”
I blinked, confusion cutting through the fog in my head.
“You’re… gonna come back, right?” The words came out smaller than I meant them to.
I hated how vulnerable I sounded, but I could not help it.
Dimitri’s world was brutal. I did not know what went on behind his doors.
He knew I could not really handle that type of violence, so he never pulled me there, but I knew he often got into dangerous situations.
He reached over and brushed his knuckles against my cheek.
“I always come back, little fairy. Always.”
I swallowed, sitting up straighter. The sheet pooled in my lap. “Why does Ilya have to stay with me? I can be alone, you know. Daniel’s gone and… I’m not some fragile kid who—”
He cut me off firmly. “Please. Just trust me, okay?”
I stared at him, searching his face. Something was definitely off, but I also knew that look. The one that said he was not going to explain right now, and pushing would only make him shut down harder.
I blinked a few times, my throat tight. Then I nodded.
“Okay,” I whispered. “But you have to come back soon.”
He nodded once, decisive. Then he leaned in.
His lips found mine in a kiss that started soft but quickly deepened. When he pulled back, he rested his forehead against mine.
“I’ll be back before you know it,” he murmured against my lips. “Be good.”
I watched him go, and my heart began to hurt. I just hoped he would come back soon.
