Chapter 7 Half a Year Later

After that day, Shen Zong completely vanished from my world.

I asked for a long leave from the company.

I traveled for half a month to clear my head.

When I returned, life went back to its old rhythm.

The day I ran into Shen Zong again came without warning.

It had already been six months since our last meeting.

In the restaurant, the man wore a perfectly tailored black suit.

His aura felt colder than before.

His gaze only brushed past my face for a second.

The darkness in his eyes held none of the old tenderness.

My heart clenched for no reason.

Tang Qing spoke slowly.

“After you broke up, he really went through a rough patch.”

“But as you can see now, he’s officially taken over the family company.”

“Niannian, the way you ended things hit his pride the hardest. I don’t think he’s going to just let it go.”

Tang Qing’s intuition proved right.

Not long after, Shen Zong acquired the company I worked for and became the boss overnight.

He specifically demanded that I become his assistant.

It felt like he came for me.

When he pursued me back then, he had been extremely high-profile.

Almost everyone in the company knew.

Suddenly, many people started looking at me with pity.

An ex acquiring his ex-girlfriend’s company after a breakup.

Either he wanted to get back together, or he wanted revenge.

I clearly belonged to the second category.

I went to the leader’s office to submit my resignation, only to find Shen Zong sitting inside.

He stared at the letter in my hand and gave a light scoff.

“Chunian, do you really think changing companies will make me let you go? Believe me, you switch once, I buy it once.”

“You used me as a Stand-In for a whole year. I have to get something back from you.”

The Shen Zong in front of me spoke of revenge without any mercy.

He truly hated me to the bone.

But thinking about it, it made sense.

A Princeling who had always lived in luxury, toyed with for an entire year as nothing more than a Stand-In.

No one would just let that slide.

I knew I couldn’t escape.

I thought his revenge would be endless pressure at work.

I never expected the position to be even more relaxed than my previous one.

Once again, bored out of my mind and about to open a game, a cold male voice suddenly came from above.

“Assistant Chun, the company doesn’t keep idle people. An assistant should have some self-awareness.”

I looked up.

Shen Zong stood in front of my desk with a cold face, his secretary beside him.

I put away my phone.

“President Shen, do you have any orders?”

“Follow me.”

He dropped the words and walked out.

I trailed behind reluctantly.

From the secretary, I learned he was heading out for a meeting.
