Chapter 6 The Replacement
Shen Zong and I were completely over.
For the next week, we didn’t cross paths even once.
He called several times during that period.
I never picked up.
That morning, as I stepped out, I ran into my senior from university, Wen Zeyi, in the elevator.
I learned he had recently transferred here for work.
And coincidentally, he lived in the same neighborhood, same building as me.
We chatted and laughed as we walked toward the exit.
But the moment we reached the gate, a familiar figure stood there.
Shen Zong stared at Wen Zeyi and me without blinking.
His eyes looked filled with disbelief and anger.
His gaze locked on my face.
He gritted his teeth and asked,
“Is he the reason you kept insisting on breaking up with me?”
“Chunian, what the hell did you take me for? A Stand-In?”
I glanced at Shen Zong, then at Wen Zeyi.
Only then did I notice how similar their side profiles were.
Since the misunderstanding had already happened, I decided to make it complete.
“Yes.”
I reached out and took Wen Zeyi’s arm, smiling.
“This is Wen Zeyi, my long-lost first love.”
“Back then, I only agreed to be with you because you looked a little like him.”
“Now that he’s back, a Stand-In like you naturally has to step aside.”
“I don’t believe it!” Shen Zong suddenly rushed forward and gripped my shoulders with both hands.
His eyes were bloodshot.
He refused to give up.
“Chunian, you’re lying to me on purpose, right?”
I looked straight at him, my voice almost cold.
“Shen Zong, your side profiles are similar. The way you sleep is similar. Even when you’re with me…”
“Enough!” Shen Zong gave a bitter laugh. “Chunian, you win. If I ever come looking for you again, I’m the one who’s pathetic.”
I watched his retreating back.
Tears finally broke free and streamed down my face.
Wen Zeyi quietly handed me a tissue, his voice gentle.
“You clearly still like him. Why hurt him on purpose?”
I covered my face, voice choking.
“Senior, you don’t understand. He and I have no future.”
