Chapter 5 The Final Plea

My thoughts snapped back.

I grabbed my bag and prepared to leave.

But the moment I opened the door, someone hugged me tightly from behind.

Shen Zong's voice carried a sob. "Baby, can we not break up?"

"I know I've done a lot of things wrong. I'm too possessive, I don't let you get too close to other men, and I get jealous easily..."

"Just tell me, and I'll change. We won't break up."

As he spoke, Shen Zong's eyes grew even redder.

He didn't ask why I was so insistent on breaking up. He just took all the blame onto himself.

My heart ached sharply.

I pushed him away and forced a mocking tone. "Shen Zong, this isn't fun anymore. Weren't you the one who made a bet with your friends to chase me?"

"What? Has the Princeling not had enough fun yet?"

"Baby, it's not like that!" Shen Zong panicked, reaching for my wrist.

I dodged.

His lips trembled as he looked at me almost pleadingly.

"I admit there was a bet when I started chasing you, but it was just me talking big for a moment."

"Being with you is serious. I've never been playing."

"Really, toward you I..."

"Enough!" I cut him off coldly. "I won't believe a single word you say now."

...

At ten o'clock that night, my phone buzzed nonstop.

I knew it was Shen Zong calling.

I looked at the boxes of his things I'd just packed, then pressed accept.

"When will you..."

Before I could finish, the other side interrupted.

"Chu Nian, it's Qin Yue. Shen Zong is drunk. Are you free to come pick him up right now?"

"He's crying and insisting he wants to see you."

"Not convenient."

Even though I said that, I still rushed to the club immediately.

When I arrived, the private room door was half-open. Jiang Sui was there too.

"Jiang Sui is still the best. As soon as you came, Shen Zong stopped making a fuss."

"Shen Zong really is something. It's just a woman. Earlier Yue-ge called her, and she actually hung up straight away."

"I really don't know what Shen Zong sees in that woman. She's not better than Jiang Sui in any way."

I didn't listen to the rest. I turned and left.

I was glad I had refused when Shen Zong wanted to introduce me to his friends.

Since we never met officially, even if I saw those people in the future, we would just be strangers passing by.
