Chapter 9 Upstairs
The car soon arrived downstairs at my building.
I unbuckled my seatbelt and prepared to get out.
Shen Zong suddenly spoke.
“Mind if I come up to use the bathroom?”
If we hadn’t dated, kissed, and slept together,
his words would sound exactly like those late-night excuses some bosses used to harass female subordinates.
To avoid him making my work life difficult—or in case he really needed the bathroom—
I hesitated for two seconds before agreeing.
As soon as I opened the door, Shen Zong strode in with his long legs.
His eyes swept the room once, then slowly returned to my face.
He smirked.
“What? You two don’t even live together?”
He paused, lips curving in extreme mockery.
“So you let me come up this late because you want me to play Stand-In again, right?”
“Forget it. I’m not that cheap.”
I knew he was still deeply hung up on being called a Stand-In.
Afraid he might do something extreme, I hurried to explain.
“Don’t worry. That was my fault before. Now that he’s back, I won’t look for you again.”
“Also, he actually lives right upstairs. Usually, I go sleep at his place.”
Shen Zong froze for two seconds.
His chest rose and fell heavily.
He glared at me viciously.
“Chunian, well done!”
With that, he stormed out without even using the bathroom, slamming the door behind him.
After Shen Zong left, I stared at the empty room, my mind in chaos.
I didn’t understand how we had ended up in this superior-subordinate mess.
I had clearly planned to never see him again after the breakup.
