Chapter 10 The Wedding Rumor
After spending more time around Shen Zong,
he finally showed his true colors and began his revenge in earnest.
During the day, he left me idle at my desk until I was bored senseless.
At night, he found every excuse to keep me working.
Whenever I tried to refuse, he would throw the Stand-In incident back in my face.
I knew I was in the wrong, so I endured it silently.
Maybe I hadn’t even noticed it myself, but I was starting to crave the time we spent alone together.
After another late night of being overworked by him, I couldn’t help calling Tang Qing to vent.
Tang Qing was quiet for a few seconds.
“Niannian, is it possible that he still liked me?”
“The way he’s acting is just him being unable to swallow his pride.”
“If he truly wanted revenge, with his power, he has ten thousand ways to destroy you.”
After hearing that, I instinctively wanted to argue, but no words came.
I had been around Shen Zong for almost a month now.
Aside from occasional cold sarcasm, he really hadn’t done anything truly excessive.
Even when he made me work late, he always made sure I got home safely.
Could it really be like Tang Qing said—that Shen Zong still had feelings for me?
That only his remaining pride was making him act this way?
But that thought vanished the moment I heard about his upcoming wedding.
“I heard President Shen broke up with Chunian back then because their family backgrounds didn’t match.”
“When he acquired our company, I thought he wanted her back. Guess I overthought it.”
“Now that President Shen is getting married, isn’t it awkward for Chunian to still be here? If I were her, I would have quit already.”
I stood at the bathroom door, a sour ache spreading through my chest.
I should have known this day would come.
I just didn’t expect it to arrive so soon.
I steadied my emotions and returned to my desk, only to find Shen Zong standing there for once.
He pressed his lips together, looked at me for a long moment, then said,
“Chunian, the news online is all fake. Don’t believe it.”
I met his eyes evenly and lied through my teeth.
“President Shen, let me be the first to say—congratulations on your upcoming marriage.”
Shen Zong’s pupils shrank sharply.
He grabbed my wrist, voice strained.
“You really don’t care at all if I marry someone else?”
I said nothing, just looked at him quietly.
After a few seconds of eye contact, he was the first to look away.
He lowered his gaze and gave a self-deprecating laugh.
“Right. You never cared in the first place.”
