Chapter 21
Greer took a shower as soon as she got in from the party.
She got comfortable in black biker shorts and a white tube top.
She couldn’t wait to have her body back to herself just to show Amari how much he had her fucked up.
He was inside but avoiding her like the coward he was.
He walked in their room twenty minutes later.
“Why did you invite your side bitch to my daughter’s party?” She wanted to talk now that she had calmed down.
“She’s not my side bitch, it’s only you,” he said, and she laughed as if he told the funniest joke on the planet.
“Here I was thinking you wasn’t seeing her anymore but you just stopped seeing her at the club, which lets me know your intentions aren’t good. Where you see her at, Amari? You go to her house? You take her on dates? Why did you invite her to my baby’s party?”
“I wanted y’all to meet so you could see it ain’t no—”
“I want a divorce. I’m not playing, I want out.”
“What the fuck you talking about? There ain’t no you outside of us!” He yelled but she was unfazed.
“Nigga fuck you! You claim you invited her so I could see wasn’t nothing going on but all I saw was the guilt all in that girl face. She could barely look me in the eyes.”
“Look how you acting.”
She got out of bed. She walked in the closet, putting her shoes on. She refused to let Amari gaslight her. She walked out the room. She wasn’t surprised that he was behind her. She grabbed her fob off the table in the foyer.
“Where the fuck you think you going?”
“To my aunt house.”
“When you coming back?”
“Why?” She turned to face him.
He looked pitiful, but she didn’t care. Her feelings trumped his.
He wasn’t the victim. He wasn’t the one at home with a child while pregnant with another.
She walked out the door, getting in her G Wagon.
She cried like a baby as she drove towards her aunt’s house.
She couldn’t believe the way Amari was acting.
He hadn’t treated her differently but he was cheating.
She could feel it in her soul. She pulled up outside of her aunt’s home.
She sat there in silence for an hour just thinking.
Her phone went off with a notification from her security system letting her know Amari left.
She sat, scrolling her phone. After a while she checked his location to see he was at the same address that he frequented some nights.
She trusted him so she never questioned where he was.
He lost her trust when he started sneaking around behind her back. She typed the address into her GPS.
Amari used his key to Klover’s, letting himself inside her apartment. He looked around, and when he didn’t see her, he went upstairs.
“What happened?”
“She said you was acting all guilty and shit.”
“Amari, I’m not some actress. You insisted I come, I did. Don’t be mad at me because that shit backfired. I told her we wasn’t fucking!”
“So why was you looking all guilty and shit?” He leaned against her dresser with his arms folded. She laughed, not believing the way he was coming at her.
“We’re not fucking but we may as well be. You eat my pussy. I suck your dick. You play in my pussy. You give me money and pay my bills. Shid what ain’t you doing? You might as well fuck me and get it over with.”
His glare deepened as she spoke the truth. “You think this is funny?”
“No but you ain’t gon’ come over here and take your anger out on me. I shouldn’t have even came. That shit was stupid as fuck.”
“You right. I’m sorry,” he apologized, and she rolled her eyes in annoyance.
“Lay down,” she demanded.
He took his jacket off along with his shoes.
She passed him a blunt. He sparked it, allowing the smoke to relax him.
He knew that feeling would be short lived.
Greer had never been so mad at him. He called himself coming to confront Klover but was in her bed blowing clouds in the air.
He passed the blunt to her. They smoked in silence until the blunt was gone.
“I’ll miss you but I’m a big girl. You don’t got to let me down easy.”
“Shut up, Klover. I ain’t said none of that.”
“So why you over here yelling at me?”
His phone rang with a call. He pulled it out, and the words MY HEART in all caps flashed at him. He got up, walked in the hallway, and closed the door behind him.
“You’re really your daddy son, huh?”
“What you talking about, baby?”
“You was so mad at how your daddy did your mom but look at how you doing me. I can’t believe you of all people would treat me the way you treating me while I’m pregnant with your child.” She sobbed, causing his heart to ache.
“Calm down, you getting worked up for nothing.”
“You just gon’ keep lying, Amari? I’m outside your girlfriend’s house.
You come to this address twice, sometimes three times a week, knowing I have your location.
I trusted you up until today when you was bold enough to flaunt a bitch you cheating on me with in my face like I don’t mean shit to you. I’m done.” She hung up.
He walked into Keyon’s room, peeping out the window. He wished he could disappear but it was no more running from the truth. He’d been caught. He rushed down the stairs and out the front door in his socks but she was gone. He walked back in the house where Klover was waiting.
“What’s wrong?” She asked after seeing the look on his face.
“I fucked up.” He ran up the stairs.
“Was she here?” She followed. He put his shoes on while she stood there waiting on a response.
“Yeah, I got to go. I had a good time but I can’t do this no more.
You got my number, call me if you need anything.
” He kissed her forehead. He didn’t wait to hear what she had to say because he didn’t care.
The only person on his mind was his wife that he hurt.
Her cries made him feel bad. He told himself he wasn’t cheating but the more time he spent with Klover, the more their relationship advanced.
